Not sure what happened to that post that was after mine... weird. I really did think it was a nail salon though.
-
So you're saying they've already decided where to build it, already solidified the platform, already scheduled tooling/manufacturing processes (which is how the manufacturing engineers would know)... basically the whole platform is already completed when it's barely even penciled in?
-
Yeah, Wilmington makes the Kappa cars. If they're manufacturing engineers then they don't really know much about Alpha, because they're not working on it.

GM Announces Seven World Intros for New York
Northstar replied to AH-HA's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
Well, the one that debuted in Geneva is called the Saab Biopower 100, and runs on E100. -
Are they manufacturing engineers who work at Wilmington? If so, how do they know what's going on in Australia? No offense, but if they are manufacturing engineers, they don't know a thing about what's going on in AU. I would like to know how, considering Alpha is still years away, we already know what bits and pieces it consists of; and, if it's just a modified Kappa with a few Zeta pieces, why it is still a few years off.

I would think they would at least give it the upgraded engines from the Lambdas, if not the DI 3.6. Are you sure it's not the biopower concept making it's North American debut? GM said "world" debuts, implying that the vehicle hasn't been shown anywhere else ever before. -
I saw 7 GTOs Also saw a bunch of T900 trucks.

I don't think anyone knows at this point whether it's majority Kappa, majority Zeta, or majority brand new. The Nomad and Curve concepts demonstrated that Kappa is not flexible enough to stretch and make into a long wheelbase. It was going to cost $250 million to make a stretched Kappa (the same amount that it took to make Kappa in the first place). Kappa has too many limitations such as the central tunnel that runs the length of the car, making it impossible to have any configuration but 2+2 (no 5 passenger cars). I don't know what Alpha consists of, but I'm fairly certain that it can be ruled out that it's not majority Kappa.

For some reason I think Curves is a nail salon. Those stores are rather small to be a fitness place, I think.

Some of us organized a get-together over at LS1GTO.com, and we had a pretty good number of GTOs out together today, it was a lot of fun cruising around. We then invaded the Pontiac dealership and took some pics there too, which was cool (except my camera died shortly after that). We went in to the dealership and told them that we had 7 GTOs out front all together, and asked if we could take some pictures. Anyways, here are some pics...

I think the new CTS has, more or less, moved up to the next level. I think it could be rather risky to make the CTS a rather compact vehicle when it has done so well at it's current size. The CTS would not need to grow in size for there to be significant room underneath it for an Alpha car. It's as big as or bigger than the 5-Series, and an Alpha sedan would be like the 3-Series. We already know that Kappa can't be stretched like that... it's basically making a new platform if you start with Kappa and stretch it because of all the changes that have to be made... and even then it's not perfect, so they might as well just make an all-new platform. I don't know, but I would hope so. It would be silly to make a platform from scratch that can't be made into different lengths.

Have a good one!

That does look pretty good. I doubt it's the concept though, it's so far away.
-
That was included, no? $13000 x 1.07 includes sales tax, doesn't it?
-
Well, we needed another car and I convinced my dad to look at one (it was used with 6xxx miles). I'm still not really too sure how I convinced him to buy it, but I'm not complaining So really it's not "my" car, but I'm fortunate enough to be the one that gets to drive it. Glad you liked it. Hopefully you get the same on your trade and can get them down to the $9600 or so OTD.

Since when was Zeta an exotic platform? It's been called "Sigma Mass," "Volume RWD," etc. Sigma is the "exotic" platform, if there is one. Originally the "Sigma Mass" list was something like this I believe: Camaro Monte Carlo Impala Grand Prix GTO RWD Buick sedan RWD Buick coupe Now we're getting the Impala, Camaro, Lucerne, G8, maybe DTS, and we don't know about anything else...

97regal - I think you meant CTS wagon in #4. The Cadillac lineup should looks something like this sometime in the 2010-2012 timeframe: "BLS" - Alpha platform; coupe, convert, sedan CTS - Sigma platform; coupe, sedan, wagon DTS/STS - Zeta platform; sedan only "ULS" - Likely a stretched Sigma, but could be a stretched Zeta, at this point it is up in the air; short and long wheelbase sedans XLR - Y-Body; unfortunately, it will likely not see many updates until the NG, and there isn't much word on when that is coming BRX - TE platform; 5-passenger crossover Escalade - similar to currently; needs a hybrid powertrain "LRX" - possible Lambda-based crossover, though I hope it doesn't happen as I see no need for it with Enclave around. I would rather see a stretched TE-based model if they think they need something above the BRX that isn't named "Escalade." I don't see a big CL-like coupe coming anytime soon. There's no need and they should focus on an XLR that can compete with the SL first. The CTS should move up, but not offer a non-V V8 model. 300HP is more than adequate, and how many 550i's, GS430's, M45's, etc. do you see running around anyways compared to 530i's, GS350's, M35's, etc.? Not many. Let those who want a V8 move up to the V8 ULS.

GM Announces Seven World Intros for New York

Hmm, perhaps an Aura Red Line? -
Well, the moonstone color is more or less black. That's what I meant.
-
Yeah, that's my GTO. Thanks for the compliments. Good luck with the purchase, glad I could be of assistance. FYI, invoice on the G6 1SV including destination is $16880. So say you get them to $17000... $13000 x 1.07 after trade = 13900 - 2000 rebate - 1000 conquest - 1000 GM card - 500 auto show bonus = $9400 + fees so probably about $9600 OTD.
-
Haha, I'm in Illinois and I'm not yet 19 (in a couple days I will be) so you'd be supplying alcohol to a minor I would get ABS if your sister is just starting to drive, but if you really feel it's not needed then you can save the $400. I think you'll have a hard time finding one without ABS, but maybe not.

Invoice on a 2006 Lucerne with the only option being a CD player is $24,249. If you can get it at exactly invoice, and get $4k for your trade... $24249 - $4000 = 20249 x 1.07 = 21666 21666 - 3000 - 2000 - 500 = $16166 + fees. If you can get it for $500 under invoice, which seems quite possible on a 2006 model to me, it's the same price as the Impala, more or less. I still think with the G6 you're getting a better deal at $11100 though.
-
There's no way he's getting a Lucerne down to $11k or even $15600 for that matter.
-
Well, in that case I think you should be able to get it for right around $11100 out the door vs. $15600 for the Impala.
-
Ok, it seems like you're getting a good deal then. Did you check out the G6s? I think you could get an even better deal on it. I just priced one: 2007 Pontiac G6 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 4A) MSRP: $18,730 Only options: ABS + Traction control ($400) and CD player ($75) plus destination brings MSRP to $19,855. If we start at $1xx over invoice, you're at $18,900. $18900 -$4000 trade in = $14900 x 1.07 = ~15950 (really $15943) $15950 - $2000 rebate - $2000 GM credits = $11900 - $500 conquest (not sure if it is the same as Impala, just guessing) = $11400 + ~$200 in fees = $11600 out the door, and I don't think you're getting much less car. You're getting a 4cyl instead of 6cyl, but it doesn't have that much less HP (~170 vs 210) and the Impala is no doubt heavier, so acceleration would probably be similar, and you'll get better gas mileage as well, plus you're out the door for $4k less.
