Opel Insignia unceremoniously revealed a week early
Northstar replied to Intrepidation's topic in Opel/Vauxhall
Interior looks nice, exterior a bit of a letdown. Overall: Meh. -
That's too many engines. 3 engines within 40HP of each other? That's 3 engines to certify, too. Doesn't make much sense to me, really. Put the turbos in the Saabs, leave Buick naturally aspirated except for possible performance models. Perhaps the entry level sedan could get the 2.0 turbo in a performance model. Giving the LaCrosse the 2.0 and 2.8 gives it very similar engines to what the 9-3 and 9-5 will have, and the turbo engines are a selling point for the Saabs.

That side vent looks like its from the VUE. Eww.
-
Looks more Denali XT-like than El Camino-like in terms of styling, IMO. More like a truck than a car like the Denali XT.
-
The rear shot is very accurate :AH-HA_wink: The front, a bit less accurate but still pretty accurate. The side and greenhouse is pretty accurate as well. Doesn't it debut in like a week in Beijing?

So the wife has narrowed her choices down...
Northstar replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in The Lounge
The VUE's interior is nicer. Both exteriors look good to me. I don't think there's really a wrong choice, but I'd probably go with the VUE for the interior. -
And you know this how? You think Buick/GM doesn't realize they have to change their image for being cars for grandparents? Anyways, this vehicle is going to knock the crap out of the Lexus ES. The ES interior looks 10 years old by comparison. Buick is going to survive. Now on to Pontiac... Alpha vehicle to compliment the G8 and that brand will survive (please do not make this into a topic about Pontiac, BTW).

Looks quite good.

The new production-spec Honda Pilot out
Northstar replied to caddycruiser's topic in Site News and Feedback
The exterior looks cheap all around. Maybe if it wasn't gray it wouldn't look so cheap, but I can't see it looking anything better than bland in any color. The interior is ok I suppose, nothing too exciting though. -
I don't much care for how it looks like it's melted together. The Camaro front end also shouldn't be used on an El Camino, IMO.

The only problem with the BMWs is that they have no warranty. The prices seem pretty good and the mileage is not bad. It just seems that BMWs are rather expensive to repair.
-
I really doubt the blind spot is going to be that big. I guess this is for SRX owners who bought it for being a sporty wagon, while the BRX will be for SRX owners who bought it because it can haul a family around.
-
I think the BMWs are awful old unless you're willing to take the risk. Any car that old is a risk. The 3er seems rather high priced compared to the 540i. I'd say the CTS or Aura, though the G6 is quite a bit cheaper than the Aura for the same basic car. The CTS still has a decent warranty left, and you may be able to buy an extended one if you plan on keeping the car long for not a whole lot of money, which would be a smart idea. I guess I'd go with the CTS. Not so old that it doesn't have warranty (like the BMWs), yet since it has the 5/60 rather than 3/36 it's similar to the Aura and G6. Plus you could buy an extended warranty for probably less than $1k and it'd give you probably up to 8 years and ~80k miles. You'd be set as far as not paying much for repairs. So yeah, after thinking it out. CTS.

I agree with what Z said, for the most part. If you like the Colorado's interior well enough and don't plan on hauling/towing too much, it might be the better buy vs. the Silverado, though. Better MPGs. What price did they give you on the Cobalt before the GM Discount? There's one on ebay buy it now for $12385 and that's without the GM Discount. Looking for a CPO one might be a good idea, though you wouldn't get the GM Discount. In short, if you just want good MPGs and a good daily driver, go with the Cobalt. If you need to haul a lot of stuff from time to time, probably the Silvy. If the Colorado can do enough hauling and you can live with the interior, I'd go Colorado over Silvy there simply because MPGs and better maneuverability.

This is actually a commercial... I saw it today in the Kansas v. UNC game. My dad was like "Is this is a commeiical for the G8? What are they doing? Grey Poupon?"
-
Stay with Aura. No reason to change a name that isn't tarnished.

I wonder how easily one could get 400HP out of the engine with a few mods? 400HP in a 3000lb car would be pretty ridiculous. Throw on some fat rubber in the rear and you'd be running with C6s no problem.
-
Wow, 150HP per liter, assuming it is the 2.0L and not 2.4. The STi uses a 305HP 2.5L, so GM has Subaru beat, and the EVO gets 291HP out of 2.0L. 300HP is a real accomplishment, I'd say.

I think you ought to sell the two cars you have as-is and buy a ~$5-6k used car that's reliable and economic. A Civic, for example.ou ought to have $2500-3000 after you sell the two you have, I would think. Perhaps more, and you'd then only have $2500-3000 to pay off on the Civic or whatever.

That's why there's droves of people over on G8board.com that are waiting for the '09s to come so they can have either a) the new features, b) GXP model, c) not have to deal with any markup from the dealers. Yep, you're prediction will be right in a year. Do some homework before posting crap.
-
Yep

So then a G8 competes with a 3 year old 550i?
-
Clearly they are not competing for the same buyers, but that does not mean they are not both trying to appeal to buyers with similar wants in a car but have different attainable price points. Do I have to make it any more clear? I hope not, because I'm not sure how much more clear I can get without being totally elementary. Actually, just so you understand, here it is: Person A: Car guy, 50 years old, annual income $175000, looking for a sedan that's fun to drive and fast (performs well). Person B: Car guy, 30 years old, annual income $80000, looking for a sedan that's fun to drive and fast (performs well). Person A and Person B clearly are looking for the same type of car, but clearly Person B cannot afford a car that costs $60k (3/4th of his annual income). Person A on the other hand can afford a car that costs $60k. Both would probably like a car like the 550i, but Person B cannot afford the 550i. The G8 does 90% of what the 550i does at 1/2 the price (which Person B can afford). Person A probably buys the 550i and person B probably buys the G8. Both have the same wants in a car, and both would love a 550i, but both cannot afford one. Jeeze... I think this is like economics for 2nd graders.

So this isn't an April Fool's joke. I edited Dodgefan's post to include the link. This is very good news! At least a few people still get it within GM! 10K G8 GT coupes are not going to have that big of an affect on GM's CAFE if they sell 300k Malibus, 100K Aveos, 250K Cobalts, etc etc that meet CAFE.

Don't make such a fool out of yourself. Just because you like to kiss BMW's ass doesn't mean you can't think logically. Besides having a nicer interior, the 550i is not much different from the G8. Both have V8s, 5-pass, 4-doors, 6-speed autos, 0-60 in the low 5s, both look sporty, both handle very well. And just in case you need it more clear: both are SPORT SEDANS of similar size with similar performance. XLR vs Mustang: Both have a V8, both have two doors. After that, there's no much similar. Mustang has 4-pass, retro looks, relatively good handling. XLR is two-pass, retractable hardtop. To make the difference clear for you: Mustang is a 2+2 that is supposed to be a daily driver for anyone from a 16-year old to a 60-year old. XLR is a weekend cruiser for the 40+ crowd with gobs of money to spend on a car. It's a car to drive up to the country club in if you want to be in style. XLR is not a daily driver at all; no one drives it in the snow. By comparing the G8 to the 550i, they are comparing it to the Charger, 300, Genesis, G35, etc. They're showing the average Joe that the G8 compares very well to a 550i, so why should someone buy a Charger, 300, etc., over the G8? You really think Pontiac thinks they're going to get any significant number of would-be 550i buyers to buy the G8? My dad could afford a 550i, but he doesn't like spending upwards of ~$35-40k on a vehicle. Thinks its a bad investment. However, he is interested in the G8 for his next vehicle purchase. This little infomercial isn't going to make him buy a G8 over a 550i (since he was never looking to spend $60k on a car anyways, whether he is able to afford to do so or not), but it may sell him on the fact that the G8 is really a great car if it compares very well to a BMW that costs twice as much.
