Best of's 2006?
Northstar replied to Ghost Dog's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)
Concept - Camaro with Enclave a close second. I'm not sure about production. None of them really stand out. EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if when the show circuit is all said and done that the Outlook or Acadia would be the best production model. -
This sounds like value pricing but actually cutting the sticker price by more than $500. I think it will be good in the long run but GM's just going to have to tough it out and fight through the first couple of months and take some hits.

Nice pics, I think it looks better in red than the yellow it debuted in.

Considering they are class-leading vehicles, I don't think it's really overpriced. $45k may seem like a lot, but before massive rebates are TB EXT was $39k and change and it didn't even have every option. So, $5k more for a much superior vehicle is not as much as many may think. Plus, the LS and especially LT seem well priced, and that's where the bulk of the sales will come from.

I don't see how this is a let down at all for GM. IMO, they will OWN the show. Escalade, EXT, ESV, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Enclave, Camaro, Tahoe Hybrid, Vue Green Line, Solstice GXP, and Aveo will all be relatively new (and with the exception of the Escalade, Tahoe, and Yukon, all of them have not been unveiled for more than a couple weeks). That's plenty of new stuff for one show. Sure, it might be nice to see the Avalanche, Acadia, production Aura, and Outlook, but GM is smart to leave some new debuts for other shows. Oh, and did I mention GM has the Camaro and Enclave at the show? Need I say more? There is supposedly another GM debut tomorrow according to www.naias.com, but I don't know what it is or what other press conference they could have scheduled. -
GM Gains Sales and Share in Europe in 2005 · Sales over 22,000 units ahead of 2004 · Cadillac, Corvette, Saab and Chevrolet set all-time European sales records · Opel and Vauxhall grow share in home markets Zurich. General Motors (GM) outstripped sluggish growth of less than one percent in the European vehicle market to sell over 1,982,300 cars and light commercial vehicles in 2005, an increase of more than 22,000 or 1.1 percent over 2004. GM’s share of the market (Western, Central and Eastern Europe) rose slightly to 9. 5 percent.* “2005 was a pivotal year for us”, said Carl-Peter Forster who became a GM Group vice president and President of GM Europe, the company’s senior ranking executive in Europe, on January 1. “We laid the foundation for sustainable growth with a healthy balance of structural improvements and investment in great new product launches. We’ll be working hard to keep up the momentum in 2006.” GM’s brands significantly outpaced industry growth in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and Denmark as well as in the rapidly expanding markets of Russia and Ukraine. Both Saab and Chevrolet registered their highest ever sales volume in Europe last year. Saab grew in line with the market, maintaining its 0.4 percent share while increasing sales to 82,100 units. The Swedish marque performed exceptionally well in the United Kingdom where its sales increased by 35 percent. Chevrolet’s year-on-year growth topped 26 percent, taking GM’s biggest global brand to a European sales total of over 240,000 and a market share of 1.2 percent after 0.9 percent in 2004. (These figures do not include over 40,000 Chevrolet Niva SUVs built and sold exclusively in the Russian market.) Chevrolet is well positioned for further growth in 2006 with three new model launches and the up-coming addition of diesel engines to the growing line-up. Accounting for 80 percent of GM’s European sales, Opel/Vauxhall sold 1.6 million vehicles in 2005. Market share grew in nine of 21 European markets. Significantly, Opel and Vauxhall were able to grow share in their respective home markets. Opel’s share of the German market climbed from 9.9 to more than 10 percent, taking Opel back to second position in its home country. Vauxhall reached 13.1 percent of the UK market after 12.6 percent a year earlier. The brands’ most important volume model, the compact Astra, was sold 527,000 times in 2005, achieving a 2.5 percent share of the European market in its own right. Astra is now in second place in the European sales statistics after halving the gap on the leader to 0.3 points of market share in the course of 2005. In 2006, Opel and Vauxhall will launch the next-generation Corsa and, with the all-new Antara, add a crossover vehicle to its line-up. General Motors’ luxury brands, Cadillac and Corvette, also registered significant growth in 2005, achieving their best ever sales in Europe. With well over one thousand registrations, the sixth-generation Corvette more than tripled 2004 sales levels. Cadillac increased its 2004 sales volume by over 50 percent, selling well over 2,000 units. The European-built Cadillac BLS is scheduled to go on sale this spring.

When I was drooling over the Enclave pics, I started to wonder what the other Lambdas would look like, and then I remembered that there is a Buick minivan off Lambda planned. With the Enclave though, there'd be no reason to make it. Seriously, how many people are going to buy a minivan over the Enclave just because of sliding doors? Here are some reasons why there is no need for a Buick minivan: 1) A large portion of possible sales of the minivan would just go to the Enclave instead. 2) If they're going to do a Buick minivan, I think we agree it should be well differeniated from its lesser siblings, and this means increased development dollars. 3) If you're on a tight budget, as GM is right now, then it would make more sense to give Buick a "mini-Enclave" off of sub-Theta for those who don't want something as big as many full-size SUVs. There is also no reason for a GMC minivan if the Acadia is as good as the Enclave, and there is no reason for a Saturn minivan if the Outlook as equally as good too. The Saturn was already cancelled, but the GMC and Buick are still on I believe. Chevy has a minivan coming, and there's no reason why it can't cover all bases of the minivan market.

Nice pics Newbiewar. I think the red looks better than the silver, but hopefully both will be at the Chicago show when I attend it in Feb.

What we're all forgetting with volume is the possibility of a high volume sedan off the same platform, or other vehicles. If GM only thinks it can find 140k buyers per year, what if they can find another 160k for a RWD sedan on the same platform, 80k more from a Pontiac sedan, 20k from a GTO, and 30-40k from a Buick using more expensive materials in the platform (aluminum instead of steel, etc)? I think if more vehicles can be put on the Camaro platform there would be no reason the whole platform can't do over 400k units as I illustrated.

Do you really need to post the same thing in two different places? You posted it in the sales ticker forum too. This thread will be locked and the other one will stay open.

Please keep all discussion on the Enclave in the main thread. We're trying to cut down on reposted topics. Please repost your link in the main topic. Thanks.

Awesome news! Did the rep say what else would change? It will have 7 seats instead of 6... but will it keep the roof and DVD screens as optional? As someone said, the concept had 21s, but 19s on a production Buick is awesome! Thanks. I can try to do the interior tomorrow if I have time. Right now I don't have enough time before I'll have to go to bed. I have school and basketball practice tomorrow, so if I have time after that I can do it.
