Way to go GM! Well done. B)

I came pretty close to buying an Avalanche several times, but they never quite made the right combinations of features available togetherin one package. The Option packages really were terribly restrictive and forced the buyer into huge lists of things unwanted to get one desired option. I hate to see the 2500 go without ever being available without the fugly cladding- that would have been my truck(especially if Duramax/Allison was offered). Specific gripes: no Z71 without all sorts of fluff(onstar, leather, etc.) no plow prep on 1500 no moonroof with plow prep no Duramax/Allison no upgraded suspension without Z71 extras On the upside, A friend of mine runs the service dept. at a local dealership and he was sure that he'd have a nightmare of complaints about mid gate water leaks. guess what? It never happened, the mid gate is a tight system.

I have been working(not just driving) IFS Chevy trucks since '88 when they came out. Trust me, the IFS doesn't break. The only issue I have with it is that the Factory ride height is too low for snowplowing ( easily fixed by having the torsion bars adjusted a few turns to raise the ride height). Puts on Admin/Mod hat OH, and ease up on the name calling- no personal attacks allowed,Remember? Takes off said hat Otherwise can't tell much of value from these pics.

The production run was only planned for three years, so we have had it longer than intended already. I was a big fan of a less expensive, fixed roof version (ASC actually built a prototype) too bad that never happened. No tears shed for the SSR here though, the way will be clear now for my new El Camino SS. :AH-HA_wink:

I'm jealous of folks that don't have car payments.

Like I said,68, a high water mark. That spotless example just sold for 50% more than it cost new(including dealer markups). The very next year the RWD platform it was based on was gone, replaced by a very forgetable FWD thing bearing the Regal name.

Good stuff,bcarr22. Thanks for getting the info to Fbodfather. -
It's too late for me to be patient enough to wait for the pics to load so I'll make a few assumptions. I assume that Chevelle is well represented, that there is a boattail Riviera in there somewhere and that you haven't posted a pic of a Studebaker Golden Hawk. I really love the pillarless look, and riding in these cars is a kind of open-air experience largely lost today. Good topic , I really need to get myself a high-speed connection so I can enjoy this type of thread.

The base cars were the Plymouth Horizon TC3 and the Dodge Omni 024God! Why do I remember that?!!! The 80's were a time of slow death and a slower crawl from depths of automotive nightmare. It was the time the domestics could have really made a play to come back strong and missed their chance by trying to imitate the Japanese. They thought they could play the FWD game and compete- they were wrong, tragically wrong. There were bright spots though, begining with the '82 Camaro and the first Fox-bodied Mustang GT with the 302(5.0) in 1983 I think, and hitting a High Water mark with the '87 Buick GNX.

Which came first: the Ford Model A or the Ford Model T? I seem to recall that the pre- mass production Ford was called the "A" which was also later used as the designation for the "T" replacement. So "A" came before and after "T"

Fly I believe Mercedes was Mr. Benz's daughter.

There is just something fundamentally wrong about an ORANGE armored personnel carrier.

I can't quite bring myself to vote in this poll because the issues at hand are far too muddy. I have some very definite ideas about what should become of Pontiac in general and GTO specifically. Most of which are consistent with the premise outlined by Griffon. However, I will restrict myself to the problems I see with this notion for the balance of this post. Problem #1 : Names. The G6,G4,G8 nomenclature is entirely bankrupt and should be tossed. Problem #2: Camaro. Without specifics of what platform will underpin our favorite new Chevy, we don't have all the information we need to come up with a sensible plan for any Pontiacs related to the Camaro. Unless the Camaro platform is a shortened and modified version the same Zeta/Sigma2/Zegma architecture as other forthcoming RWD models a la the Holden model, I can't see GTO sharing its underpinings. I don't think that GTO and Camaro should be so close that they share wheelbases and overall shape and size. That route would lead to either a bad Camaro or a bad GTO. They should never be the twins that Camaro/Firebird were. Which brings me to the brutally honest part of this problem. I love the GTO and long ago faced the fact that we can't have both the GTO and a new Firebird. That said, if the two have to be very close in size and shape and wheelbase the Pontiac in question should be called Firebird not GTO. I don't want to see this happen- but it makes sense. I'd rather see the Camaro stand alone in wheelbase and sheetmetal and ride on a shorter version of the same RWD platform used for the GTO and other RWD cars. Problem#3: Timing: The G6 is still very early in its life cycle and the GTO needs to be ready very soon. So, what are we talking about here? Moving the G6 name to a GTO based sedan model? (see problem#1) Or are we just saying that a RWD sedan (call it Tempest or Lemans) needs to accompany a Camaro twin? (see problem#2) One point of agreement with this whole idea: I too, believe that Pontiac should move toward an all RWD/AWD lineup sooner rather than later with one exception. That exception would be the Vibe which could remain FWD with a healthy dose of performance and compact cool. Think Mini and you will see what I am thinking.

OK, I've thought about it, and I think Chevelle 454 is right. I vote Rambler.

Mid-sized 4-door hardtop hould be a tough call in 1957. should rule out Pontiac and Lincoln and Caddy maybe Ford too Let's see, Studebaker had a 289 and Packard had a 352(I think) still could be one of them or Hudson? Nash? Dodge?
-
Let's see... Which domestics had fuel injection in 1957? other than Chevy,of course. Pontiac did. Caddy?- not sure Ford offered it in the Thunderbird Lincoln? Studebaker? Packard?

OK kids, let's play nice. And... read more carefully. bcarr22 is no troll, he was the unwitting victim of some buffoon at the show. Fbodfather has the right of this,of course, so stop worrying. bcarr: If you could find out who this person at the show was I'm sure Fbodfather would be grateful. Finally let's give GM some credit, such an idea would require a level of stupidity not possible in anyone in position to make such decisions. -
Can't... breathe ... heart racing Wow! just Wow! B)

Search my old posts on the topic and you'll see where I stood... and for how long. :AH-HA_wink:

The coupe looks like an old BMW 2002 that had an unfortunate run-in with a trash compactor and then had Benz taillights glued onto it.

Used to be Mountain23, if memory serves.

Happy Birthday,Josh! I'll have a Swinkels for you. :AH-HA_wink:

Some things never change. Fly you're the same old wiseguy. Might be fun to chop an Avalon... let me get my axe. Thanks for the quick update, 91, I missed a few of those tidbits.
