If they make me laugh-they get a pass. 'sides, it's "Damn, it be snowin out dis bitch!"

Two of my top three have already been mentioned. ax or axe for ask acrosst for across (I hate this one more than I hate Toyota) I'll add the third. Yous and yous guys for you (nothing says "moron" like using these) Generally, any hip-hop,gangsta,rap related slang annoys me but I can mostly ignore it. Language is a process that is ongoing and slang is the vehicle of its evolution. Like physical evolution, most slang "mutations" are dead -ends and soon fade from use- only a very few eventually find a legitimate place in language. What bothers me most isn't the slang itself, but the inability to speak any other way or when it is obvious that the speaker doesn't come by the slang honestly.

Thanks Josh. It's good to be back.

Which Lemans? The GN just suffers from some rough details (bowtie on grille etc.) I've always wanted to build a true GNX version. :AH-HA_wink:

I think I like the two Buicks best. Followed by the Pontiac.

I've seen the Lumina and even a Monte carlo based Camino, but they were aftermarket. This one is a true GM prototype that nearly made production(if the B bodies weren't cancelled it likely would have). They brought this one out for a cruise down Woodward when the production SSR debuted there, the two of them cruised together. The car is a 1994 model and appears to use the bed and rear window from the '78-87 El Camino, just about everything else is production Bbody.

I've always thought, and still do, that it will replace the SSR. :AH-HA_wink:

Congrats Northie! I know you'll enjoy it. :AH-HA_wink:

Hmmm. Now I'm stumped.

Why don't we just call this thread played-out? Let it die and start over fresh so I don't have to lock it. OK?

Let's call a truce in the personal wars,Guys!

I don't know how many were actually sold, but the intent was that it be limited from the start. I remember a maximum capacity of something like 12-18k per year. Anyone have the actual numbers? Also don't forget, the plant itself is being closed down. If it wasn't, the SSR could have been around a while longer.

Chrysler corp for sure, but the top of the engine looks too wide for a small block. "big block" 318 or larger?

Pontiac and its dealer network are actually in a great position to make this sort of change. Follow my thinking here. Most Pontiac dealers also sell GMC and Buick, these two additional nameplates could easily accomodate models shifted from Pontiac. Conclusion: GM can make Pontiac into whatever it wants with a minimum of dealer complaints and without much initial impact on overall corporate sales.

Are the Cobalt SS and the SSR tailights the same part? They look it.

I think it depends on which vehicle and which engine. For the smallblocks a major re-vamp took place in 1986 that gave us a one-piece rear main seal and central hold screws on the valve covers. The '85 Vette and Camaro had these changes on the TPI engines I think. All '86 and up smallblocks had these features. the dipstick depends on model and the castings have provisions for a dipstick on both sides. Generally,I think most of the smallblocks moved from driver's to passenger's sides during the 1980s.

I've seen them at the vintage races. The name escapes me right now. Drat! It's a feminine sounding name.

Solstice. Hands down.

I think you all know where I stand on all of this, so I won't dive into the hopeless debate about which drivetrain layout is superior. However, I am absolutely certain that the domestics are in peril now because of the wholesale abandonment of what they knew best: RWD. For 20 years and more, we have had FWD shoved down our throats. I honestly don't much care what you drive if I can choose what I want to drive. Consider this: Of the 50+ vehicles I have owned, only 4 have been FWD. Of those 4, 3 were simply given to me. The one which was not ('84 Toronado) was used as a substitute for cash in a 3 car deal. Of the 4, one was Hellish, two were competent, and one was ugly and average. I have never actually laid down cash for a front driver and am not likely to. I am passionate about cars and have been all of my life. I know that I will never be passionate about any FWD car however competent or efficient or reliable it may be. Cars mean more to me than that- a good appliance just won't do. Defending FWD on an online forum is like protecting a brick with wrapping paper- there is simply no need. What we enthusaists really want is to make the choice for ourselves from a range of choices. Sounds simple right? Well, it hasn't been. Not for a long time. The automakers spent decades marketing to the least common denominator and left us with nothing to choose from but countless redundant versions of the FWD sedan. For me,that was like choosing from dozens of plain white bowls full of the same plain broth. Finally, we are beginning to see style and individuality return to the offerings in the automotive market. RWD is a huge part of that and AWD will be. The tyranny of the masses is ending and each marque is beginning to stand for something again. I might even have a hard time deciding which new car I would buy from a range of good choices in a few years. With Challenger,Mustang,GTO and Camaro all in front of me I can, at last, happily ignore the crowd of Camrys and Accords and such as they fade into invisibility. Choice is good. :AH-HA_wink:

Here's the response I posted to the latest "And Furthermore" posting on the Fast lane Blog. Yes to a mix of RWD,FWD, and AWD. Obviously, the wholesale conversion of the big 3 to FWD back in the 80's was a near-fatal error. Here's a thumbnail of what seems obvious to me in a few concise bits of advice. Speed counts when going from show to showroom. Flexible platforms(architecture) are essential. Look to Holden for d**n near everything. Listen to the folks that buy the cars, we are more than happy to tell you what we want. Be bold and creative if you want to survive. Did I say look to Holden?
