    It all stems from this abortive attempt at standardization. The public rebelled, and we are left with artifacts of the attempt - this is one of them.

    There were still GMT400 pickups in the 2000 model year. 2500 and up only, I think. A low-mile clean one was the holy grail I was searching for until I settled for the Tahoe.

    No doubt those 6.0s were pigs. Mine ran great but sucked fuel at an astonishing rate. We had the 8.1 in the dually we used to pull the race car trailer. It was a huge trailer, and we hauled 4 cars in it - the 8.1 never broke a sweat.
