Holden VF Commodore SS Sedan Gallery (link)
Camino LS6 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Heritage Marques
What can I say? I hate every aspect of the exterior design. From the nasty headlights, to the black rims, to the Bangle-butt. But then, the competition isn't much to look at either. -

Doesn't help much. Still fugly. -
Those of you who like the exterior design are lucky, because the other aspects of the car promise to be stunning.
-
disagree, it isn't lacking, it just isn't what you're expecting. Well, the auditory doesn't measure up, and I like shifting gears, so...
-
I wouldn't feel any surprise at an LS or an LT being used in the SS - I can see reasons for each.
-
I'd like to take one for a spin. Beyond that, who knows? EDIT: Electric is a bit lacking in visceral appeal.

Some recent info here: http://vladimirkagan.typepad.com/vladimir-kagans-blog/2010/11/the-electric-car-is-alive-and-coming-out-of-mothballs.html

I think I remember this. In fact, I think there may be an article on it in one of my old magazines.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a wrecked G8 GXP...
-
And that is what it will have to do to interest me in such a small powerplant. Or a small car for that matter.
-
Now that is a recipe I could enjoy - especially wrapped in a Code 130R Nomad.
-
Realistically, 0-60 is all that matters since I rarely get a chance to exercise a car beyond that point. I want all the power, and I want it immediately.

There are turbos coming. Not sure that would change things much in the character of the engine down low. uhm... that is entirely what it changes. looking at the torque curve for the WRX (which isn't direct injected) it hits max torque at 2,100 rpm. Adding DI (which the FR-S already has) will likely lower that even further. OK, if that is the case the appeal for me would increase somewhat.
-
i agree, I have no interest in a 8000rpm redline 4 banger producing 300hp at 7500 with 197lbs of torque with a tinny exhaust note. We have proven we can build efficient engines with plenty of torque and hp with low rpm and a deep bass growl for an exhaust note. That's what makes me smile, so the FR-S formula just isn't one for me. I was spoiled early on as a big block V8 owner, and that feel is the one I prefer.
-
For me, it's all about low-end grunt - mountains of torque at 1,500 RPM. I care nothing for screaming at 5000 RPM to make power - it just annoys me. I like an engine making good power while loafing at low RPM.

Ignoring everything else, there is no way that this drivetrain would make me happy. I'm a huge fan of having the power down low, and hate high-winding engines. I'm glad to see any new RWD coupes hit the market, no matter the brand, but this isn't one for me.
-
Yeah, this wreck brought that one to my mind as well. It was a G8 GXP as I recall.

"Final" won't happen for many decades. There will have to be a qualifier in there like "for now", or "for a few years".
-
Me too. I PM'd Drew about it, and he said he'd deal with it when he got back home.

Cheers or Jeers: 21,000 Mile 1977 GMC Sierra

Hmmm. -
The story I saw on the Stingray was that it hit a guardrail on the left side and then bounced over into the rocks on the other side.

GM was testing in Arizona with a fleet of C7s. This one ran out of luck.

I love how he escorts the fool in the Honda to the proper lane with no drama, and then calmly moves back to the fast lane. Just priceless.
