  2. spend how much to certify, advertise, and distribute a car that only 300 people would buy (without an automatic)? They would have to price it at 50k to make up for the 20k in marketing costs each car would bear just to get the word out. Utter nonsense! If offered, the manual would account for nearly half of sales. This is a limited production performance car, and the intended market wants the manual. GM did learn (through G8 and Camaro sales) that it doesn't make sense to import a v6 version, but they seem to have missed the memo on the manual transmission. While opinion is divided on the styling, the desire for a manual is overwhelming - just scan around enthusiast sites (the target market). This car is meant to be an enthusiast's car, so the normal dumbing-down to an automatic is exactly the wrong way to sell it. As for marketing, those who want the car already know about it.. And with expected volumes of 3-5000 per year acceptable to Mark Reuss, how much advertising do you need for a car that makes its own news? You have to understand performance cars and performance car buyers - the usual sheeple coddling doesn't apply.
  3. No, I was saying it should have a manual option. My comment was directed to Reg - our posts crossed.
  4. Such nonsense.
  5. If the case you are making is that GM could only afford 1 transmission, then they chose the wrong one for this sort of car. Besideswhich, it's the same damn trans the Camaro has.
  6. The last two days have been all Fomoco. Yesterday I saw an early sixties Fairlane (kinda ratty and sitting low on old rear springs, but motoring right along). It had a temp, registration in the window. A few moments later I spied a Kennedy-era 4-door Lincoln sedan at a local garage. Today it was a Super Duty dually with what had to be a 9' or longer bed - never saw one like that.

  9. Did MT have anything interesting to say?
  10. That is an absurd statement, Reg. The manual is already in production at Holden, they just have to offer it here.
  11. Judging by reaction around the web, GM better announce a manual option.... pronto.
  12. Wouldn't surprise me.
  13. Sure they would have taken some flak, but they would also have sold thousands of cars without the major investment of the MCE. Major mistake, IMO. The MCE was going to happen anyway--by 2010, the car was already 5 years old in OZ.. My point remains, they reduced their ROI without reason.

  15. i read something that said they might consider bringing the SS wagon here, but likely not the Ute. Not really my point in posting this, I was just referring to the front end - and how GM already was using it in other markets on this car. This car (in whatever bodystyle) could have been here as a Chevy as early as 2010.
  16. Couple problems with that logic, Reg. This car is positioned as a limited production piece aimed at enthusiasts. It doesn't qualify without a manual. Remember, the G8 GXPs were nearly all spoken for before they were even built. The other problem is that this entire platform is due to be replaced for 2016. That means that there isn't time to introduce a better version and get any benefit from it. This car needed to be right at introduction.
  17. Generally speaking, I have no problem with 415HP. Except that it was available in Pontiac flavor..... in 2009. What, exactly, have we been waiting for five years for?
  18. Better nose, easier and faster, and also cheaper to do: We could have had this for at least 3 years by now.
  19. So basically, after a five model year wait, we get an uglier G8 GXP plus a few gadgets and minus the manual. Way to fiddle while Rome burns, GM. Should have simply swapped the nose and badges and had this here for 2010. Overthought, overwrought, and underwhelming. ...and very, very late to the game.
  20. Automatic only? Oh, FFS!
  21. I'd pass on this one. I was thinking how dumpy it looked now - and then I saw the price. No, thanks.
  22. but a V6 Accord could out run it. As I said, for what it was.
  23. I don't know, I thought Mercury did a pretty good job with the Marauder. It was no Impala SS, but it looked pretty good for what it was.
  24. Assuming that the turbo happens, this is an ok entry for an ok price. A half decent entry-level RWD coupe. But if GM can't stomp it in all categories, they will not have tried very hard.
