  1. I'd also put the LaCrosse Super, and its 5.3 V8 with active fuel management, in that same category. As for the Super Lucerne, who knows?
  2. I agree. I thought developing active fuel management engines was a step in the right direction towards gasoline conservation, but I guess Bob Lutz doesn't think that way anymore. If he thinks creating more fuel efficient (and very slow) V6 engines is the answer, he's sadly mistaken.
  3. Here's more on the two Super models debuting this week at the New York Auto Show: http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_ne...lacrosse_super/
  4. Chris... You're right, but I don't see anything wrong with listing other sources too: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Autos...icleId=106457#1 Since I'm very interested in the LaX Super, I want to read all I can about it.
  5. Here's a link for the latest news on both Super cars being shown at the NYIAS: http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_ne...lacrosse_super/
  6. Here's a link for the latest news on the 2008 LaCrosse and Lacerne Super cars: http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_ne...lacrosse_super/
  7. Here's what the guys at Edmunds think of the two Supers: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=120141#6 Interesting article. It talks about the origin of the Super name.
  8. You are without a doubt the most negative poster in this particular forum, and your picture shows it!
  9. Hey Paolino... For once we agree on something! You're right, the Super cars will run on regular gas (87 octane). However, I read where Chevy owners are saying the 5.3 V8 runs better with middle-grade (91 octane). But, to get the absolute best performance, premium (93 octane) should be used. I have said in other threads my desire to buy a performance car with comfortable seats. Looks are also important. The LaX-S meets those needs.
  10. I think you should add the 2008 Buick Lucerne Super to your list. It reportedly will be getting the Caddy's performance DTS 4.6 liter engine that makes 292 horsepower. The 2008 Buick Lacrosse Super will be getting the same 5.3 V8 engine found in the Impala SS and Grand Prix GXP.
  11. Wow! Now you're talking! I can't wait to sit in one and take it for a test drive. I think this car will be a big hit for middle and older people (baby boomers) who want comfort, good looks, and great performance all in one car. Plus the 5.3's active fuel management will save gas and money.

    Classic Buicks

The writers of "Bad to the Bone" must have had the Grand National in mind when they penned that song.
  13. Here's the latest update on the Super at Edmunds: http://www.edmunds.com/buick/lacrosse/2008...esandspecs.html
  14. I wouldn't call getting a 5.3 liter V8 (with 303 horses) a minor thing! Its less than 6 second zero to sixty time puts it in Z28 territory.
  15. I find your reply offensive to senior citizens. I'm a baby boomer and have owned five performance cars in my lifetime. Three of them had RWD, officially making them muscle cars. I think the new Super WILL attract the "Depends" crowd (as you like to call us), who want a combination of comfortable seats along with performance. But you're right about the car attracting young buyers. They probably won't think it's good looking.
  16. Thanks. I searched "Google" and found this excellent link: http://www.answers.com/topic/new-york-inte...ional-auto-show I scrolled down and found info on the Super. There are lots of other links too. I found the one on "rear-wheel drive" very informative.

  18. Are you referring to the New York show? Is that when the Super will debut? I wonder how long after that before it hits the Buick showrooms.
  19. I agree. The headlights leave a lot to be desired... My wife and I are "baby boomers" with bad backs who prefer comfortable, but high performance cars. So we bought a Regal GSE in 2000. The Regal is getting old, so we're ecstatic that the LaCrosse Super will soon be for sale. We've been waiting patiently for Buick to develop a FWD sedan with a combination of comfort and performance. We knew the Super wouldn't be for sale for awhile, so we checked out some other cars with the 5.3 engine. We test drove an Impala SS and a Grand Prix GXP to check out their seats and performance. Both are great cars, but we thought the seats just weren't comfortable enough for our backs. We then test drove a 2007 LaCrosse CXS and found its seats to be much more comfortable, but weren't that impressed with the 3.6 engine's performance. In closing, we hope the Super will be a big seller with older hot rodders like us. BTW, because we live in Chicago, we much prefer FWD for driving in snow. However, we realize that most purists will recognize a true muscle car only if it has RWD, not FWD. PS: Here's another link to a photo of the production car: http://info.detnews.com/autosinsider/sneak...ex.cfm?id=22792
