  1. Hi guys..... I had a mishap over the holidays with the ol'Saab. He met a friend called "guardrail" who stripped him of all dignity. So I'm out looking for a replacement and since the next year is going to be relatively different in terms of motoring needs, I'm considering a fiew other choices.... oh, and I'm also on a tight budget so I need something that can be found under 5 grand. 1. Saab NG900 non-turbo ('94-'98) for the maintenance free aspect of not having a turbo 2. Jeep cherokee 3. Saturn SL2 4. Chevy S10 My dad wants me to get a silverado or an S10 so that we can use my truck instead of his brand new one when we go hunting and fishing and get mine all dirty and full of scratches. I love the indea of having a truck but not a v-8 silverado or any big gas guzling truck for that matter because I do allot of traveling and need something that is relatively good on gas. I love the cherokee and always have, I love the S10 as well because it isnt too big...... I've been dreaming of a diesel powered suv/pickup for a while..... so my question to you all is: What trucks/suv/pickups brands and models in the past and present that were/are offered with a Diesel engine? No I'm not talking about a "Superduty" "Crew cab" "Super Haulin'" v-8 turbodiesel 310 HP monster of a pickup, but rather a smaller I4 or I 6 turbodiesel or something.... The only thing that comes to mind is the Jeep liberty with the 2.4L diesel engine..... something like that but maybe a tad bit older to fit the budget..... sory for the loooong post Edit: not the 9-3 but rather my '89 900 that I hit the guardrail with on my way home due to snow....... the car cost me 1500$ but all the time I have put into it and also gathering an inventory of parts from my past c900 (so now I have 2 c900's that I could potentialy put back together into 1 good one) But because I won't realy have any time for fixing in the next year with me moving out of Toronto soon, I need something totaly maintenance free......or close to it.
  2. I dont necesarely like the interior but the outside is good looking! I think they should have an optional high displacement 4 cylinder turbodiesel engine to win my checkbook!
  3. I dont think Kaylan was very acurate with her wording... the way the black panel or "night panel" as it may be labeled shuts off all un necesary lighting in the cabin. You are cruising on the HWY with this function enabled and all you see is the spedometer lit up. All other instruments are actualy not even on. (if you flash a light at the tach, it will be on the "0" mark allong with all the other gauges). If you are reaching near the bottom of your gas tank, the fuel gauge will light up and come back to life. Basicaly, it only lights up what is absolutely necesary and keeps other things out of your sight.... quite neat to see only 3/4's of the spedometer lit up and woop, when you hit 140 km/h, the rest of the gauge lights up!
  4. nice concoction! I'd prolly eat it if it was me who made it!
  5. I am......... 21. Will be 22 on march the 2nd...... Lets move this on to adding your Astrology sign?!?!(did I say that right) tha'd make me a Piscese
  6. this one is my favorite:
  7. I remember reading the topic about that........... is it still there? you should pick it up!
  8. This is in the trunk of the corvair corsa turbo: notice how the cylinders are under the floor pan. The belts from alternator and accesories are seen getting twisted into a horizontal pulley that ataches to the engine crankshaft. You can see the turbo up in the corner feeding 2 intake pipes for each bank of cylinders. I sawe a great site yesterday that I cant seem to find today that has pics of removing a Corvair's engine and they have to remove it from bellow. It doesnt come through the trunk opening.
  9. My dad wants to do a '68 Cougar convertible with the 390HP engine...
  10. Drewl................. [insert drewling smily here] I just noticed the way Olds did the sucker mouth openings today while researching..... quite nice...... I wouldnt mind doing up an old Olds holiday coupe with the large bumper opening like that.....
  11. Ok, so I'm browsing Ebay for ideas on a classic car restoration... So far, I'm looking at '66-'70 Eldorado (top of list) Chevy Biscayne Olds 442 or holiday coupe Also, the Corvair caught my eye once I looked at pics of the engine...... how is it mounted? I cant seem to make sense of how the engine sits or how it is configured.... all I see is a pulley right in the middle with the shaft runing into the floor.... it seems like the engine is under the floor??? I also found one on Ebay that is Turbocharged????? did anyone know they made those? http://cgi.ebay.ca/Chevrolet-Corvair-Turbo...1QQcmdZViewItem
  12. I used to be inlove with the old original 260Z...... the one with the rounded headlights inset into the hood...
  13. I think with the pictures of the new Aveo above, it is arguably the better styled interior and seems to have tighter panel gaps when you compare the 2 pics side by side. I am surprised by how well executed the revised Aveo has turned out.... having to chose between the 2, I think I'd go for the Aveo. The yaris sedan is slightly sportier on the outside but the overall package and style of the Aveo wins in my book.
  14. I think this butt beats'em all: (by far)
  15. Well....... I guess we can put the GN/GNX topic to rest cuz the '67 eldorado has already stolen my heart and ripped it out of my chest in the process...... next time funds are avail and I have a place to park it and also providing thers one in decent shape for sale...... I'm getting an Eldorado.... has to be the 66-69 era with the cleanely pointed trunk lines and hump over the back wheel right after the passenger door.... Oh, and love the rims or hub caps they come with.... they complement the car the best ;-)
  16. Well, I saw on a couple different occasions, a Buick Grand National with turbo 3800 engine (in the description) and the car would be in prety good shape.... maybe not restored but rather well maintained and in a decent 10 12 grand category... I also remember seing one in the high 20 grand price range... so I guess it depends..... At the end of one description it said "first one to show me 5 grand takes it!!" and it was a beauty..... I was like >>What the hell??!?!<< he's crazy!
  17. If I were to do a european vehicle, I'd probably do an early model Saab 9000 Turbo,pre- facelift with the hatch....say '91, '92 and turn it into a Torque MONSTER with later style wraparound black Aero leather seats.... But this aint about a european project.... I know my dad would have his interests on a classic north american v-8 powered rocket.....wich aint a bad idea as well!
  18. Mute, I'm talking about a classic car here...... your caravan might be a classic in another 7-10 years providing over 3/4 of the current caravans get somehow extinct....... there are sooooomany dodge vans out there its not even funny... But I saw an old '86 or '87 caravan the other day somewhere online that had a crysler turbo inline 4 in it.....custom job.... DCX had a fiew I4's that were turboed back in the day for the K-car and the lebaron and a fiew others.... this van was cick ass!
  19. I always se one or 2 for sale in the auto trader for a fiew grand.... fully restored ones go in the 10K to 13K $ zone I'd realy like to an older 60's 70's V-8 GM vehicle and maybe even a totaly custom Turbo aplication shortly after restoration.... Whoa...... could anyone picture a '76 eldorado black hardtop like the black one in the eldorado topic with a turbocharged v-8 engine??!?!?! I am salivating just thinking about it....
  20. Are we gona get results for this chop? Seems like its been up for ever and has been abandoned?!
  21. I've recently did the head gasket on my Saab 900 Turbo last week end with my dad. He has outfitted himself with all the necesary air tools in the recent year and has allot of other tools he has had for a long time too. I got a set of air tools with a 5.5 hp electric compresor with 8 galon tank for x-mas this year. We realy enjoyed working on the car together and we both have a passion for cars. We joked arround about doing up a restoration on a big v-8 powered classic or simmilar. Well, I will be seeing allot more of my parents soon due to recent changes so I am seriously considering starting up a big project car with my dad. So far, some of my interests would be either '76 erra cadillac eldorado (most likely hard top) eighty's generation of a buick GNX with 3800 turbo... that Chevy Biscayne discussed in a previous post would also be an interesting project... What would you guys do?
  22. I'm falling in love.... fully restored eldo... with pics of restoration if you go to this site..... truily stunning pictures of the restoration! http://www.therodshop.com/1976_cadillac_eldorado.htm
  23. BV, I looooove the new bonnies....... If I were to go back to a pontiac vehicle....I'd either buy a brand spanken new boneville with the northstar v-8 or an older '86-'93 generation boneville with the good ol' first gen 3800 engine...... ooooh I loved that car.....I had big plans for that car (when I had an '88 boneville, got totaled by a dumbfuck who did a rolling stop and stopped in the middle of the road when he saw me comming down........BANG [insert metal scraping sounds here]) I'd love to do up a 1st gen 3800 with a turbo setup or something and some perf mods to the chassi
  24. For some reason, I get the impression that this was written by an 80 year old man that lives out of a trailer with his hound and has no teeth and no wife. Dude's probably been sheltered for a loooong time...
  25. I think the completely redone model is planned for either 2008 or something? still prety far away but if their concepts and preproduction photos look good, I may place an order for one before its released! (providing I have a good paying job at that point in time...)
