I understand any english, I didnt understand the point of your post. You stated a bunch of obvious well known stuff that had nothing to do with the developement aspect I was talking about. I took some honest info for its value, added some more honest info for its value, put it all together and came up with the fact that the current 38 is not at its value. My post was inspire by one of the recent topics that had statemements about the V8's being "refined" while the 38 was "primitive". So I figured through specs I would see just where it stood in givin time periods and generations of developement compared to this V8 refinement. I found just exactly what I suspected. It was on par right up until recently. Of course I alway knew it was not primitive because I read the basic summary of the series II development in 95 and have openly complained about addition of a fly by wire being passed off as another series of engine rather than any solid engineering such as the LS engines recieved. I think you read something into my post that was not there and then said my data comparision held no water and lairs figure. I believe I was well on track and proved what I had suspected. the new 3.9 figures into this in the back of my mind too but that would really confuse people and who knows what forms of deficencys I would have then.

photo of early car didnt come out.

Always #4. Only cars that really apply to #5 from my view is Exotics. If theres a trunk 4-5 seating capacity and dont cost over $50,000 new they are at least somewhat practical. Driving Buicks and Oldsmobiles for over 10 years proves the practical with reliability and what was great economy during those times. the 86 2dr LeSabre was definantly inspired by sex appeal. Then a 89 NYer so my daughter had her own door to get in and out of. Then came the LSS, I had decided 4 dr would be it as long as we were family of three. I had become confortable with the size and ride of this type of car. Test drives showed me the "latest" H bodys were great ride, drive and creature comforts so I was set on a Eighty Eight LS of some sort. I also found sex appeal in the 4drs body shape. Then I's spots dis here car wist a sunroof, den I's see's its gots leather, buckets and console, den I's sees some funny wheels, den I gets around ta de paper on de windo with de list that says sports suspension and SUPERCHARGED 3800.............. SOLD ! the end

Yes, more began working other than the more typical teacher, nursing, ect. Still a family could get by just fine on modest income with one paycheck and 2-4 children. Try it today ? NOT !

PM Awards GM 3.9 V-6 For Breakthrough Technology
razoredge replied to Northstar's topic in Powertrain
You all know Im happy about this but wish it was the better engine to begin with - the 90*3.8. What I want to know is why are the gas economy reports so poor ? I never saw were GM ever got the 60* engines to workout as good as the Buick based 90* and I know thats now how its supposed to be but somehow that little bumble bee could fly. Well good for GM but Im still concerned. -
When the boys came back from Europe and the Pacific, Rosie went home and created, raised and cared for us baby boomers and this country had a great 2.5 decades, then came the "new" corporate and political ideas.
-
the reason this was possible in the 50's, 60's and somewhat into the 70's was because this country was an industrial giant with organized labor making sure the workers got their share of the profits. We were also a very self sufficient country. Woman and massive immigration entering the workforce has created competition in the work place forcing wages down. Two incomes within the family has giving companies the excuse they need to keep wages down. I wont get into the effect of import products from "slave" labor and its effects, thats a givin everyone knows but hates to except. Mothers always did the motherin and full time house arrans until recent decades, its not economic transition, its corporate and wall street greed, thats the only place any financial transition is taking place. Its not like the moneys not out there from the products/services the producers produce. If it wasnt because of the workers then just where the hell did the money come from ? life time major watching the decline of America through 3 generations

well it didnt need to be dead front, sorry. Maybe I do like the formula better, how about a more front 1/4 view [rollseyes and smiles] I know something looks better to me about the first body.
-
Vipes, could you put up a frontal shot of the origional so I could compare to formula, thanks. Heres a decent photo of the 76 Lancia Scorpion, 1801 produced 76-77, a racing FIat X1/9 and a 83 X1/9 built from 73-88. These were in the Fieros earlier market place though the X1/9 must have competed against it for sales in later years. Fiero benefited greatly with the use of urethane bumper covers compared to these oldies with the protruding bumpers.
-
Which one is the whale ? This one ? I actually like the look with the long WB. Anyhow I will always prefer the origional body shape it had more character. The formulas front look like some peice of wood I might have rounded off on the belt sander and frankly the entire GT looks that way. Its just all round and smooth without any form of character lines. It looks good but nothing outstanding, to me. I always felt the same way about Firebirds and the last two generations especially thats why that later prototype didnt thrill me that much either I was still sad to see the Fiero and all its innovations flushed down the toilet just like GM always does. I do hope to own an early body someday and place better front suspension and a turbocharged Buick LG3 but standard transmissions are a problem in this area. Wont happen though, I have recently aquired a Lancia Scorpion, another midengined car that needed a few more character lines.

Well if this Dusie was an indication to what would have went on in the 80's we need be glad it didnt. Im sure the crowd would have just licked this box on top of a box up however. How invigoratingly creative.

Before I scroll down I have to say I dont know who but is got to be the same guy that did the early 80's Imperial's but Im quessing this wasnt called an Imperial. These cars may have been the last of the razoredged cars, the 80's Imperials what do you think ?

When I was single, working very hard as in burning intense calories I was loosing weight and all I ate was a quick stop at MCD or BK for breakfast or diner with penut butter and jelly for lunch. When my wife and I met she called me an Ethopian chicken. So my question is now that Im fat "can I sue my wife ?" As long as the court system allows this BS is will continue. However - I do and always have agreed with the MCD coffee issue though because that stuff was scalding and as I indicated earlier I never understood why. Most of the times I would be at work before I would even dare try to driink it. Furthermore - Nearly everyone fixes their coffee between their legs from a drivethrough and everyone has to remove the cover to do so. MCD workers were always noted to fill to within 1/8th to 1/4 inch of tippy top as well. I now only regret that I was not the one to get this lawsuit - really, Im tired, wore out and still pissed off about that first time I burnt the roof of my mouth, tongue and upper lip on that stuff. My case would have had one supplement however, all MCD decision makers as well as their lawyers would be placed in a large lockerroom shower, knecked and sprayed with MCD coffee. Thats what we non college graduates call "live and learn"

I know what the Brit roadsters looked like and this looks like a Solstice/sky chop. Are we assuming this is a photo of an actual car ?
-
Wouldnt it simply be a de engineered Corvette ? What would be the point, a killer engine in an inadequate chassis for a few pennys less than a Corvette. GM just needs to continue developing more performance out of its 4 cylinder and this Kappa is the halo developement car to do it in. You need cars for every class, not all cars in the same class. The Cobra was completely different from its AC Ace brother but the Tiger was simply a shoehorn job and it did not handle or brake as well as the Alpine.
-
can someone explain to me how Alpha Romeo is a worldwide partner ? Im assuming it has something to do with Fiat but for some reason was thinking GM was out of Fiat now ?
-
not sure how I feel about this ? I hope is a little more creative than the pictured car which does look like a sky/Solstice chop. As for the Nash, I dont think a retro of that would get anymore attention that a retro Metropolitian.

Yes you must have NAV DO you realize that after a few decades of NAV people will no longer know the shape of the states, have any natural instinct as to N,W,E or S I never get lost because I can look at a map and get the visual of what Im doing before I leave. Realation ship to towns or through them, ect.

Yo, Sly, I just caught your corrolation with that Special, very Sly you old fox you. Good eye !

I knew you would appreaciate this Balthy as per our conversation about this car and its mystery. Id have to say no on hte plate. That must be John Mecom's plate back in the day. Heres the artical and all it offers That straight frontal sure breathes new light into the idea, ey ? Backs very nice too, remember we had been wondering. Id do conventional lights but this is sure cool. I was glad to see I called the roof panels right too, still dont know if they open with the doors or separately though. It would take one heck of a mechanism to make them work together. Jeffries blow Barris out of the water for tasteful creativity This car, to me is like Carlos - So smooth !
