  1. As much as I despise Farago for being a pompous, pretentious prick, he's got some valid points. This guy is the ONLY person I've heard EVER say this... Apparently he has some well placed resources or he's blowing smoke up our ass; you pick. I refer you to this article: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/content/1...49391580627324/
  2. I don't know about this... On the one hand, it gives GM a little more money to work with. On the other hand, Suzuki would have been an excellent window into Japan for GM to import cars. I guess if they need the cash that badly...

    .....

...But has it got a HEMI?
  4. This has to be the most photographed during pre-production car ever. I wonder if Chrylser will finally offer the Sebring with some real muscle, since the G6 Convertible will be competing with it directly. And that 3.9L. motor in the GTP packs some heat, especially when coupled to the 6-Speed Manual.
  5. Why would somebody go to the trouble of doing that? We already know what the GT-R will look like:

Question: Do you actually need another car?

    .....

That's actually pretty cool. Looks sort of like a miniature Charger.
  8. I can see Honda slowly turning into present-day VW over the course of the next decade or so.
  9. I asked you to prove this before. Can you prove it, or are you just ranting?
  10. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Featu...rticleId=109161 These comments from an old Car & Driver on the 1988 Cavalier Z24 made me laugh. The more things change...
  11. The statement that Chevys are "The most dependable, longest lasting truck on the road" is itself specious. Can you prove it to be true? At any rate, I'm inclined to agree with Hudson, O.C and the others here: The Tundra will not be a major threat to the Domestics rights out of the gate. Think about it: was the Camry a threat from the moment it debuted? Of course not; it took two or three generations of excellent Camrys and dissapointing Domestics for it to become a true competitor. Like the Camry, the Tundra will slowly chip away at the Domestics, taking a few thousand more sales every year. Unless Detroit can come up with something totally invincible, then, yes, the Tundra will become a serious competitor in about 10 years. Still, that's plenty of time for the Domestics to get their act together in other ways and other market segments, which they desprately need to do. It isn't as though it's impossible to see where this all is leading, after all.
  12. Good catch there, Dodgefan! Perhaps the Caliber steering wheel will only appear on base models?
  13. I'm old enough to know better.

No problemo. I was just wondering about that actually, hahahahah

Beat me to it, Mute... I was just about to say, "What about CarDomain?"
  16. The wheels suck. I like the engine, though... sounds like it's an update of the current 3.5L. V6 that they use in the SLK (among others), correct?
  17. Anyone else notice that the automatic transmission costs about $1,100 more than the Manual? Now, I know all automakers do this, but this is the Camry we're talking about here. I mean, I'm sure that $18,270 base price will be appreciated by the approx. three dozen people who buy a base Camry with a Manual, but the other 99.99999 percent of Camry buyers who choose the slushbox are paying more... so that "excellent value" base MSRP is a bit misleading. Frankly, I don't see why Toyota continues to make the Camry with a Manual.
  18. Note this option for which powertrain you would prefer: 215 horsepower V6 diesel engine with 5-speed automatic and 375 lb-ft of torque (19/23 mpg)
  19. One way to improve the RL: Offer a Hybrid version. I recall that, back before the RL came out, everybody was saying that there would be a Hybrid version that would pair V8 power with I-4 fuel economy. Nothing ever came of it, though, and soon, Lexus will beat Acura to the punch with their new LS. SH-AWD is cool for sure, but it reminds me a lot of the ATTS system on the old Prelude: It sounded good on paper, but you wouldn't really notice it unless you were looking for it, or benefit from it unless you were driving at 9/10ths. With a Hybrid coupled to SH-AWD, Acura could've sold the RL as being a technological breakthrough. Too bad (for them, anyway).

    Very sad...

The F-14 is a pretty cool plane, for sure... But how many of people would've know about it if it hadn't been for Top Gun? That movie did a lot to bring the F-14 into the spotlight. Come to think of it, though, I'm a little surprised they've phased it out in favour of the F/A-18. Won't the F/A-18 itself become obsolete when the Joint-Strike Fighter comes out in 10 years or so?
  21. I know I'm late to the party, but have you checked out the Mercury Marauder? Just like a CV, except with more power and better handling! Also, since many were bought in the hopes that the car would one day become collectible, they usually have low miles and are well maintained. And this search shows that there are a few around for under $20K (NOTE: Since I'm from Canada, I didn't know what to use for the Zip code, so I looked one up for Boston when I did this search): http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresult...02101&x=49&y=11 The Infiniti Q-ship is also a sweet ride. The pre-'97 models had more power, but were rougher around the edges than the '97-'00 models, which were refined to better imitate the Q45's far more successful cross-town rivial, the Lexus LS400. The trouble, of course, is finding one; the Q45 was never a big seller. When/if you do find one, though, you'll be able to get it for a good price; they've depreciated way faster than the LS.
  22. Very encouraging news, especially considering that the dead of winter is typically a slow time of the year for sales.

    Honda Fit Hybrid

I don't see the point, either, but not because the Fit is old. I don't see the point of adding Hybrid technology to a car that already gets 40+ MPG in the first place. Honda needs to make a Hybrid version of the Ridgeline, a vehicle that gets probably 20 MPG on average. Raising the Ridgeline's mileage just 5 MPG to 25 or so will have a much greater impact than raising the Fit's to 60 (if it would even get 60 MPG in real-life driving). Also, the kind of people who will be buying the Fit (i.e: poor people, youngsters and seniors) probably won't have an extra $3,000 to put into a new car, nevermind the fact that they will probably never see a return on that investment due to improved mileage.
  24. For a while, the Saturn experiment was successful in producing a truly "different kind of company". The question is: Has GM learned from the experiment? If so, then, IMO, it will be all worthwhile. If not, then they might as well scrap Saturn before it becomes another division full of uninspired platform-sharers. Just my opinion, and worth exactly what you paid for it.
  25. I'm surprised the race wasn't red-flagged because of the weather. It was terrible! In some shots, you could barely see the cars! Other than that, it seemed like a pretty typical Daytona 500 to me: A few wrecks (no "big one", though), a few specious cautions, and a lot of time spent with cars lined up nose to tail and nothing in particular going on. Every year, I say to myself that I won't waste every Sunday afternoon watching cars race around in circles for hours on end. Then Sunday rolls around, and there's nothing else to do, so I end up parked on the couch watching NASCAR anyway. *sigh*... I suck at keeping promises to myself.
