  1. Pontiac still resonates with that same generation here... I've said numerous times that I see more G6's around campus and Trans Am shirts than I know what to do with. I know it's not a scientific measure, but still the cumulative evidence is there. (Charlotte NC) Not to mention, the GTO's largest market was CA
  2. I think this sounds great. It's kind of the idea I touched on with the Solstice in my To GM plan. The Solstice would be essentially a factory made track car (with a turbo 6) that would focus on weight reduction, balance and dynamics above 'muscle' and would be quicker than a base Vette by nature (and could be built to run with the top Vettes through a good factory aftermarket program. To me, the Corvette is the ultimate sports car and should remain as such. But we have to consider why the Vette sells. At least part of it's image is based on brawney, big engined, americana and flash. The Solstice (from the same architecture) would be more for the people who are autocross or track purists. they don't care about the image that their car conveys so much. They do however, care about their lap times at the track. It's two different clienteles for two cars that could co-exist. You'd have people like me who want a 'brute' like the Corvette because of it's performance and everything it represents. Then you'd have people that aren't so into that.
  3. Last I heard, Europeans smell worse than americans... And maybe you guys could put on some weight if the EU didn't regulate your damn food so much. God forbid you're ever allowed to have the freedom to decide for yourself. On a serious note, I actually dread the day that I have to fly. Most people say that I will not fit in a coach seat... I guess that's what being in the top 1% of america (size-wise) gets me
  4. Okay man... I have to put a stop to this. (Not that I disagree with you on Pontiac) You seem to have this morbid fascination with the Genesis.. What is so original about a mid-size RWD coupe with a corporate V6?
  5. I would NOT be opposed to once again using the Chevy & Corvette way of life. (Corvette was it's own brand at one time, but it has never been separated from Chevrolet)
  6. Anyone want to chop the concept SS into a sexy Pontiac? (Or is that what the above is based off of?)
  7. I was ALWAYS a fan of setting up a "3 track GM" back in the day... The volume buyer (read: Toyota/Lexus) could be hoarded into the Chevy/Buick channel. The performance enthusiast/car guy could be included in the Pontiac/Cadillac channel and the fashion conscious (read: VW/Audi buyers) could find themselves a ride at the Saturn/Saab channel. (Truck guys fear not... That's why we have/had the GMC (volume)/Hummer (luxury & specialty) channel)
  8. They're ALREADY developed... All they need is approval and a Pontiac grille.
  9. Best post yet! Although, I'm sure Cadillac would piss and moan about that plan.
  10. And it doesn't have to, since Pontiac is NO LONGER the volume division for that channel.
  11. *Fixed... Yes, GM does need niche divisions and it ddoes need to 'make a car for everyone' That's always been the CONCEPT behind GM. Too bad the management lost it's way. And FWIW, 3 out of 4 of those divisions mentioned (You know, the three that are dying/leaving) were the GM divisions with the MOST growth potential. No one believes it'll happen... But AT LEAST it has been discussed. And that was the point of posting the article.
  12. We'll "want" them soon enough... "Want": When the liberal granola assholes make that the only car formula available. Wait, what?!?! There's actually a 'cruisin' package' ? LMAO.
  13. I agree and disagree... Scion model line = FAIL. Scion mission, buyer base, marketing and customization = Something a niche Pontiac would benefit greatly from.
  14. I agree... However, I don't see why a Scion-like Pontiac couldn't be topped with something like a Trans Am or GTO halo. Chevy gets Corvette, Pontiac could get a rather limited Trans Am or Firebird (or GTO)
  15. One can only hope!
  16. It's funny... The people who helped kill GM through pissing matches seem to be fleeing to other companies now. Hopefully they'll take their ass backwards way of thinking with them.
  17. You're just experiencing GTO envy... It's okay, most Grand Prix owners experience this... And 50% of BMW owners experience the same thing (the ones that actually know the performance of cars, not the ones who buy it because their friends like blue and white propellers)
  18. I nominate this for the "No freakin' Kidding?!?!?" award of the year
  19. LOL... Overall general comments. 1) americans are stupid, so go figures.... Most americans don't understand what would happen if these companies were allowed to simply fail. And that's one reason I'm giddy with enthusiasm about their failure. 2) This is a minority in a city that hasn't given a damn about Detroit for a LONG time. 3) americans have a short memory, I'm sure this will be forgotten in 3 days 4) LOL, ESPECIALLY at the old prune who insisted that GM is responsible for the death of soldiers! How clueless can these people be? They deserve everything that befalls them. Like I've said numerous times... americans are itching to see the big three fall and they're doing everything in their power to ensure it happens. They take pride in the fact that these companies are going bankrupt.
  20. Nah... He's more of an 'A-Team van' guy. Prolly has a bitchin' metal flake purple electric guitar as well.
  21. LMFAO!!!! (Priceless...)
  22. True that... That's one reason it's taken me so long. I never qualified for grants and didn't want a lot of loans, so I paid my way for a while. (full time one semester, part time the next, yadda, yadda) But for grad school I just want to get it over with which means that I'll be in the hole quite a bit. I told myself that I would finish this degree (which I'm doing in a month) and grab a job for a while before grad school. However, the market is so bad that I haven't been able to find a job and everyone is telling me "just go ahead and do grad school and use it as a shelter". Not sure if that's a good idea...
  23. Thanks for fixing that title Oldsmoboi... It was driving me nuts!
  24. Which brings this thought to mind: What if Chevy inherits the Sky (which I'm still against for a variety of reasons) and ( with pending CAFE regs and their desire to move Corvette upmarket -- see ZR1 and the cancellation of XLR) uses it to occupy the place that the Vette presently occupies. Then a higher classed C7 (midengine of not) could debut later in the decade. GM has toyed with the idea of a "cheap Vette" since the introduction of the C5... I remember back then it was to be called the "Sting Ray" and have a fixed roof. That program ended up being the resurrected Z06 FWIW. If I heard right, that WAS the originl plan before the sh*t hit the fan at GM. The Kappa cars and C7 were going to be on the same platform and built in the same place. Hence the potential move from Wilmington to BG for the current Kappas. It's certainly what I was referring to... That, and, I don't really want to see a Sky with a bow-tie glued to the nose. If GM does go down that path, they need to at least do it right. (Something they 'aint got' the money to do IMO)
