Solstice predicted to be car of the year by edmund
but we're often absurdly ahead of the curve here at Inside Line
LMAO, yeah, whatever. If you're "absurdly ahead" then we at C&G must be "absurdly light years ahead."
Meanwhile, Michelle has dedicated herself to the complex and troubling inner workings of the Detroit-and-beyond automobile business, something I try to distance myself from. I do not want to know how the sausage is made.
1) Michelle Krebs is a HORRIBLE excuse for a columnist, and 2) If you aren't interested in the automotive industry or how cars are made then obviously you don't care to know or learn much about the subject; which leads me to the question of, why you write about automobiles in the first place? So if you don't know much and your articles don't say much, except opinions and lies then why are you a thorn in our side? Cars: 5 euros (Includes Charger) 4 Americans (Includes Miata) 4 Japanese 1 Korean Trucks: 3 Euros 4 Americans (Includes Suzuki & Range Rover) 6 Japanese (Can't wait to see the "Asia storms the truck market" headlines--these nominations show the shifting bias) 1 Korean I hope the Solstice gets it, naturally, but wouldn't mind seeing the HHR, Fusion or Charger get it either (Nice to see the domestics coming back at least on paper) As for trucks, my bets are on something asian.... Probably the Ridgeline since the press was "jackin' that bullshit" (Kid Rock) so much when it came out. Or they might pick something hybrid because of the fuel :bs: Odd-balls would be the RAV4 and B9 but I'd like to see the H3 win.
At this point, I think the Solstice deserves it, but I retain the right to change my mind.
Typical domestic press disclaimer; (in case of fan or Toyota payroll backlash) see my comments in the Solstice Car & Driver thread for further.
but I'm not sure it's the Year of the Hummer.
Greenie loser. What the hell does this mean anyway? Aren't the parameters supposed to be the vehicle, not the "political" or "social" times?
Fuel mileage may not be as good as the public expects from a hybrid, but if you look hard at the technology in this vehicle — and how seamlessly it works — it's impossible to discount it.
Smooth that failure right over.... In typical media fashion.
The Lexus RX 400h is arguably the most complex vehicle ever offered to the public, and it's a project only Toyota, and its spare-no-expense budget, could pull off.
More Toyota ass kissing.
1) I'd probably give it my top vote, 2) but I suspect the Ridgeline is the favorite.
1) Notice he didn't give the "disclaimer" with his asian choice. 2) Gee, I would've never known after every journalist in America spent high quality time behind doors with it for 2 or 3 weeks. http://www.cheersandgears.com/public/style_emoticons//AH-HA_wink.gif
But that's just me — a man who bought a 1991 Mercury Capri, new. And liked it. What do I know
Nice jab asshole... And as far as automotive people go, you obviously don't know much. EDIT: Changed "Asian" to "Japanese" because w00t_man made a good point. :D -
Just wait If people are told what to do long enough (i.e. not to buy domestic) they will obey. (Cognitive conditioning) ESPECIALLY since the media is ALREADY debasing the "Patriotic" stance (Why a large majority of buyers are loyal anyway) and ESPECIALLY since the asians are viewed far superior in everything they do.

Of course... The Cadillac has only been out for a few years compared to 51 for the Corvette. I'd venture to say that MOST or a LARGE MAJORITY of the general public doesn't even know that the XLR exists thanks to GM's shi**y marketing. Everybody is bashing these cars like they bashed the HHR, yet it seems to be doing fine. (Oh, and I'm not retarded, I know the obvious HUGE differences. My point is that I think these cars will be successes in the face of scorn much like the HHR is)

Well, well What a way to inflate the numbers!

Precisely

Okay, so pretty much ALL American industry should die??? Because, obviously it isn't just the auto industry that's struggling. I hope everyone has fun when this happens (All our industry dies) being poor and working at a shi**y 'service' job making fat cat executives in 2nd world countries happy. I don't know why Americans are so blinded by this "global economy, America must suffer, but it'll all work out" :bs: America will suffer and it WILL NOT work out unless something is done. I hope we do hit rock bottom just to teach the naive a lesson.

I disagree. Saab is vital to GME and why give the competition a leg up? GM should not shrink to compete because they will never gain the ground back again.
-
That's an excellent statement that pleads the UAWs case perfectly... Times have changed, this is a NATIONAL issue and reality for America workers sucks. And it won't get any better any time soon, if ever.
-
I've thought GM should do this for years... Then the quality MYTH would die (But I'm sure the press would come up with other excuses not to buy, and make GM look bad; like dealership experiences)

You know, I was thinking the other day... Why doesn't GM try to do a hostile takeover of Toyota? I mean, I know I'm over simplifying things A LOT. Hell, it might not even be a possible scenario, but seriously... If you can't beat them, then buy them. It would detroy the cash hoard that the company has built up but if they actually get the "savior of automotive consumers" then think of the income they'd secure. That is a VERY key phrase because it centers around the CAUSE of this entire issue. Because of outsourcing and this 'wonderful' global economy we live in the American middle class is being destroyed. Why? Because we are the only 3 tier society in the world and in order to compete with other countries we have to accept lower pay rates to generate lower prices. Thus, the great Paradox of modern America is reached; either accept pay cuts and become a part of what we consider poor or poverty or watch your job leave and go to China. It sucks bad, but it's true... There will be a point in this country where we no longer have a middle class through the simple diffusion of trying to compete with low income countries/employment. And what's sad is that we're our own worst enemy; we're destroying ourselves by putting these cheaper made, foreign goods above ours on our shopping lists, yet no one seems to be able to wake up and see that and if they do raise an eye lid, it is immediately shut by the media and its agendas. The days of The American Dream are over.

LMAO!!!! That is an ugly sum beach... I'm sure it's WAAAY better though, and no one will mention or notice (when they purchase) the bulldog ugly looks. I almost wonder if it isn't suspension tuning..... I've always thought that GM has handicapped most of it's more traditional offerings to either keep those old school GM buyers or protect another division with an identical mechanical offering. Handicapping one division for another is annoying to me (i.e. The GP GXP and it's balance compared to the Impala SS and its supposed overweight, sloppy feel which might also be the case between the Malibu and G6) but I don't know if I can blame GM, as annoying as it may be, for keeping some of it's cars tuned for traditional GM buyers. That's a base we need to hold on to. Nonetheless I think ALL of GM's cars should drive well.. If we have to up Chevrolets tuning to compete with the imports therefore calling into question the importance of Pontiac, then Pontiac should go the next step and strive to be THAT MUCH BETTER.

There is.... OUTSOURCING. Because apparently the government isn't going to do anything about it. So I guess that solution is fine by them. Apparently it does... Apparently it involves the collapse of VITAL core industries such as textiles, automobiles, steel and airlines and apparently this country doesn't care to fix the problem regardless.

Last I heard: Aurora was petitioned for Sigma. Originally the 2nd gen Aurora was supposed to be a completely different car (Bigger and more 1st gen like than it actually was, maybe on H body instead of G body) The ACTUAL 2nd gen Aurora was supposed to be named Antares and be the replacement for the 88 & LSS NOT the 1st gen Aurora as it became. Alero and Intrigue weren't even being thought about, except for the OSV versions. The Profile was supposed to replace the Silhouette on Lambda The Recon was coming out on Theta The Bravada was to continue on GMT360 And the O4 "could have" been built on the Delta architecture. All this 'what might have been' is making me bitter... Bitter at the imports and GM management. You can go to www.gmphotostore.com and go to the concepts section where you'll find artist renderings of potential future Oldsmobiles. Each are labeled simply "GM drawing" or something like that.

Some much needed good news for Hummer.

The STS is compared so much because they are trying to kill demand for it. Asia WILL crack the truck market because the media will help them all they can, mark my words. Why should Detroit be worried? Because they're being slain and are about ready for the killshot. One that the media and public certainly are eager to give them; all they (the media and public) need is for the asians to give them the right weapons ( the right alternatives to buy and herald as "ground breaking")
-
I agree I guess.. I want to see them move volume, but not have to incentivize these things in 6 months because the market is saturated. Angrily plotting against GM in their respective print/press rooms. Where are all of the "press" and "ANALysts" that said GM couldn't sell a car without rebates now????
-
How is that helpful? Launching a new in high demand vehicle? Congratulations!!! You've just been awarded FOG's "Understatement of The Year" award!!! 3 domestics.... HMMMMMMMM?.?.
-
I agree.. I'm anti UAW and all but that was MAJOR :bs: Yes, I agree.. We'll see more NEGATIVE "ammo" to drive the company's stock down more and thus move them toward the ultimate goal OF bankruptcy. Everyone say 'thanks' to the media for the "HONEST" reporting on those Delphi sourced domestics... This is just the beginning of the damage the media has done and the thousands of lives this "group" of bought off people have destroyed with this "story" they've built. Rod Tadross has always had it in for GM, and I thought initially Delphi did well only sinking into losses a year or 2 ago. THEY SHOULD HAVE!!! That strike cost A LOT of share and ACCELERATED the decline we see today. And the whoring out of our company begins. (Re: my comments in the lounge thread)

Kinda like when you buy a Nissan? I thought it so funny that Americans became so anti-French, yet Nissan (Parent company Renault) was enjoying record sales.---- oh wait! they're one of the 'new domestics' :puke: Shows how smart the typical consumer is. I wonder if, when the press truned so negative (Circa 2002) it had something to do with the political environment? -
You've already given your stance away. Pure opinion; not facts I actually do agree there. Case in point of blatant, overlooked media bais Just like the Prius failings never get mentioned... Toyota gets "a break" for being innovative.. GM, of course, did not.
-
I dunno... I was raised in a Toyota (Our primary transportation until I was 14) and we still have that car, it used to be my daily driver. Yet I hate Toyota because of their business practices, dull-headache inspiring cars and their destruction of the Big 3. Euros yes... Asians no... But there isn't.... Honestly, I wouldn't want to own ANY asian car. Besides, us domestic fans haven't been given these "admissions" from the import side in 30 years... In fact we're increasingly chastised and made fun of by fans and people who are supposed to be "professionals" that we are supposed to pay to read.

Top 5: (On sale now) 1) Solstice 2) Fusion 3) HHR 4) Cobalt SS Supercharged 5) Cobalt SS And these sometimes change order...
-
LOL... Everyone remember though, the CTS didn't do well in the publications either at fist AND the STS is hitting it's sales targets just fine.
