Isn't this the GMT360 extended vehicle (Trailblazer EXT/Envoy XL/Envoy XL Denali) production site? Goodbye SSR... It's a real shame. Too bad the vehicle wasn't more practical or affordable. This is sad more for sentimental reasons.... What GM did with Saturn as a company as far as marketing and creating a 'culture' was remarkable and widely heralded. It's something that they should continue to pursue eventhough the Saturn HQ is no longer in operation. The end of the CSVs as we know it? Wow... That is somewhat of a shocker to me. Aren't these the facilities that produce some of GM's best selling models, not to mention some of the highest quality facilities in the industry? Secondly, could this mean the introduction of a major new architecture? Last estimates for the new GTO were 2008 right?

The FACT that Honda recently cut Ridgeline production and the FACT that according to the same article it isn't selling to expectations should be enough to support my opinion. Unless I read the article wrong. (P.S. Thanks evok for trying to keep me grounded :))
-
LMMFAO!!! God forbid... I'd LOVE to have some of that Honda Kool Aid that they've apparently been dishing out at Ridgeline test drives. Hell, I'd be a happy, if not delusional man! The Ridgeline is a screaming FAILURE, yet the media STILL insist on selling americans on it, by lieing and via Honda slurp jobs. (Quite a commotion?--Yeah right! The only commotion I hear is the sound of my own bowels moving) And guess what! It's working! Just look at siegen's post for an example... People will be trading in their "crude" and "antiquated" domestic trucks on a new Accord, I mean Odessey, ooops, I mean Ridgeline by the thousands. ESPECIALLY for that GREAT power/fuel economy mixture!!! The asian bias is beginning to grow in the truck market throughout america and will continue. I mean, after all, they're perfect at everything else. WHY NOT TRUCKS!?!?!?!?! ****CAUTION: the above post is BRIMMING with sarcasm**** A V8 Avalanche with more power, more room and MORE versatility. No offense my friend but you call that grasping at straws? Moving a few hundred pounds worth of rocks out of the bed to get the spare isn't as easy as moving 3 grocery bags out of the trunk... It just more justification for holding the asians and the domestics to 2 different standards. SPARE TIRE UNDER PAYLOAD=BAD IDEA. It's simple. In fact, if this is "grasping at straws" then the anti-Detroit zealots do A LOT of grasping at straws when they rank the Miata above the Solstice because it has "a softer dash" or when they rank the Camry above the Malibu because it has "smaller panel gaps" or when they rank a Covette Z06 below an exotic performance car over ".2 seconds" Sorry Chief, but the "board" really doesn't hold a universal opinion. And if it did, then why not make it pro-GM since it is a GM board? After all, it's not like many places are pro-GM anymore. GM refuses to change with the times???? Honda wouldn't even PRODUCE a truck in the height of the truck boom and the asians in general have HORRIBLE truck offerings. Think about the market boom and subsequent profits they missed out on because THEY wouldn't change with the times.... Ford sells close to 1 million F-150's per year and Honda is struggling for 50,000 Ridgelines this year... WHY in the world would Ford or the other domestics for that matter want to do anything different? Seems to me that THEY are the innovation and success in this market.

Excellent post!!!
-
LMAO!!!!!! That's great... Careful Josh, we wouldn't want fellow posters whining because you're pointing out media bias. :AH-HA_wink: But yes, I agree.... This article (By just spitting out randomly useless facts and GM insults in almost bullet format) and Bloomberg in general seem to be reveling in the massive success that the media campaign against the domestics of the last 4 years has become. Of course, the piece is from Tokyo... Which means it's a Japanese pride PUFF piece anyway.

LaNeve: We still haven't made up the business

I agree 100% with caddycruiser and Oldsmoboi. -
Given what Wagoner was handed, he has done an exceptional job. Sure, he could've moved faster and probably tried to. But this is GM, not just a run of the mill manufacturing company. The sheer size and legacy of the company is mind boggling. I don't envy the the team leading GM at all. EVERYTHING that could go wrong has went wrong and they couldn't catch a break if they owned one. Given the circumstances, I think they've done a decent job. In fact, I'm willing to bet that if you polled the CEOs of most other automakers, they'd agree. GM is just in a nightmare of problems right now that have accumulated (and been put off to an extent) over many years. Some in it's control but many NOT in it's control. EDIT: As far as the GM board, if that's what the article is referring to, then no, I'm not sure that they have more knowledge than York, but as far as leadership of the company. It'd be a close call IMO.
-
Cool! This needs exposure! And GM should pit it right up against the Scion twins! EXCELLENT IDEA!!! The HHR is hot here, even with the college set.
-
Umm...what? Hard times don't always equal failure... Was Standard Oil a failure just because the government broke it up? I don't think so. I'm not so sure about that... I think GM is in good hands BUT York could be the "sense of urgency" that has been needed at GM for 3 or 4 years now.

I think the EV1 is far from the consumer mindset and Saturns image. I'm all for the hybrid Vue, but capitalizing on the image of the EV1, which has been extinct for numerous years, is a lost cause.
-
Such hostility guys.... (FOG pats the sheep on the head) It'll be okay. Don't like it, don't read it. If you think the last 30 years is entirely GM's fault then you're remiss and if you think the opinion of an import fan and a former mod matters to me in the first place, then you're delusional. Have a nice day. :)

I find this very interesting.. Any idea where I could find more info on the topic? BTW, I guess Saleen is an exception to the rule? I mean, I guess the S7 has to be certified doesn't it? Well, unless it's low volume enough not to be.

Five Reasons GM Won't Declare Bankruptcy
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
IIRC, GM sold off it's military unit a couple of years ago.... So, aside from Camo-ed Silverados, GM ISN'T a military supplier. I could be wrong though. Careful, a lot of what some of us post (me included) is sheer opinion and at no time is supposed to be confused with facts unless blatantly obvious or specified. -
Read the financial news lately?!?!? This BIAS is killing GM. The Solstice is overall a MUCH better car than the Miata. It might not be quite as fast (.2 seconds isn't that noticable ) and it is supposed to be the revolution car for GM. By the media scoffing at it and it not being able to out perform a warmed over Miata, they're kicking dirt on the entire GM renaissance and on Lutz name IMO. It's more of the TYPICAL same 'ole stuff. GM makes an AWESOME car and it "Isn't quite good enough or isn't quite as good as [insert random import]" I would however like to know if the write up on the Solstice was positive overall or just a bashfest. If you're a fan of Toyota you have nothing to cry about... They're not failing or in danger of going out of business. Or better yet being RUN out of business by bias and unfair business practices. Oh, and what finished 1st? The Mazda 6 maybe? Wouldn't surprise me... Eventhough they are essentially the same car, the bias would place Mazda above Ford.

Absolutely not! :CG_all:

Thanks for the pix will75. I think it looks even better in black!

Five Reasons GM Won't Declare Bankruptcy
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
That's the problem. 1) there will be no "merger" just like Chrysler and Daimler wasn't a "merger" eventhough they convinced idiot america that it was. Toyota will buy GM and as Shantanu likes to say; "Make GM it's b*tch" just like Daimler did with Chrysler 2) A Toyota-GM merger would probably violate every anti-trust law in this country. -
I think me and Cavigirl are pretty much in as long as it's a weekend.
-
NICE!!! Maybe GM should buy this company, at least for the technology. Of course... Having a dream and achieving it are 2 different things. Examples: Tucker, revolutionary cars that never made it to mass market. Packard, recently (2000 time frame) Packard tried to make a comeback and, as far as I know was unsuccessful. They even used GM parts. Then comes Cunningham, Lutz baby, awesome credetials, big time backing and a complete flop, never came to market. Hopefully they can make it though... Didn't Morgan make a comeback from the dead? P.S. That Maybach concept is an AMAZING car!!! I love it!

Will you support GM if they declare bankruptcy?
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to regfootball's topic in General Motors
I agree with every bit of that post except the Studebaker & AMC reference. The market is MUCH more competitive now and $$$ is much easier to sap. AS far as Mitsu, well they have protectionism on their side :AH-HA_wink: Yes I would.... america cut GM's throat and turnabout is fair play. I agree 100% GM has NEVER failed america, yet they get nothing but hatred and malice and death wish kisses back. IMO, it's time for GM to do what's best for GM. Not the America that SOLD THEM OUT. How does it not make sense??? It's common knowledge that the Korean companies are begining to do to Japan Inc what Japan Inc did to Detroit. I'll facilitate that as much as possible. -

Why did this get an award again? Looks like someone boought some JC Whitney ground effects and spray painted it yellow... The rear effects don't even fit well. Although, the hood exhaust and grille vents are nice. touche, touche
