This just shows that the 'lib media' is not #1 enemy as some on here are constantly claiming. It is the rich fat cats that want to break unions and really off shore all 'fly over jobs'. They think all people can work as 'consultants' selling 'ideas'?
-
This is being used by the 'true elite class' [rich investors] as a way to break up labor unions, once UAW falls, it will be like dominos. But then they will complain of how hard it is to 'find good help'.

"saying the Republicans don't want to give the loan to Detroit because it will give Obama a victory" And they wonder why they lost so many races. Keep this up and they will be Dinosaurs instead of Elephants.

Toyota was downgraded from AAA for the first time, so the whole 'they are perfect' is c-r-a-p.
-
"RWD cars by the millions in last 30 years" Umm, the last 25-30 years were smaller downsized or FWD cars, not the 'muscle cars' or 60's. Some still forget that #1 car is FWD Camry, and dont get all 'media forced people to buy' Point is, GM has good cars for sale and all the extremism, such as 'build all muscle cars' or 'import all their cars from Europe isn't going to work. GM should bring their best new cars to Capitol Hill for test drives and show that they dont just make big gas hogs or outdated designs.

More Doom and Gloom from Automotive News
Chicagoland replied to Camino LS6's topic in General Motors
The stupid Senator assumes that ALL imports get 50 mpg, so why not? big f-in duh! -
Bloomberg: Rick needs to resign if GM is to get aid.
Chicagoland replied to Chazman's topic in General Motors
Put Bob Lutz at the top and then he can delegate and or hire the best people. Wagoner is stuck in SUV land. -
Any nation with a GM presence should chip in, especially China.

NYT THOMAS FRIEDMAN- 'Steve Jobs should run GM'
Chicagoland replied to regfootball's topic in General Motors
Toyota is losing $$ and cutting production. Sales are down in double digits. Hardly the 'best company'. And, so many seem to forget, Toyota actually makes TRUCKS! -
GM to Sell Entire Stake in Suzuki to Raise Cash
Chicagoland replied to BuddyP's topic in General Motors
Maybe sell Daewoo to South Korea? They already own Hyundai-Kia. -
Get rid of the outdated dealers, with fat slobby salesman in pastel leisure suits, smelling of Brute aftershave, cigars, and bad salami breath. Or the ex HS jock with tons of hair gell, spray on tan, and gold earrings. Or the ones who don't know how an engine works, etc..... Cancel any that try to sell new cars with aftermarket 'carriage' roofs with other add on garbage. Ones that say that "Ad fees are mandatory". Or, ones in dead neighborhoods with beat up signs and inventory is 90% junky used cars, and the few new ones are 'bait and switch' base cars to get sub prime buyers to "come on down", then they're are pushed into 25% loan on a '95 Cavalier.

"anti-GM leftist propaganda" I didnt know Republicans were leftists? They are who are most against bailout loans. Their main philosiphy is 'tough sh*t' if business fails, and of course utter hatred of unions and blue collar work. [They only want votes, then its 'go F yourself' poor losers] Also, the real elitists are rich snobs, who think all manufacturing should be overseas, since its cheaper and supposedly 'better' since anything foriegn is 'simply superior'. So, don't assume that only left wing people hate GM. Plenty of hard core Repub's drive Lexus, MB, Beemers, etc. John and Cindy McCain drive import lux boats, for example. And good old boy Bushie, said 'they have to build more relavant products' assuming GM still makes Vegas and 10 mpg big cars.

Chances Dwindle on Bailout Plan for Automakers
Chicagoland replied to ellives's topic in General Motors
Alabama is backed by Benz, Honda, and Hyundai, so their Senator doesnt care. Also, since Detroit is a Northern city, another reason AL doesnt care, too. Well, when people lose their jobs, they can all go to Alabama and ask for unemployment $! -
The late 40's, 50's and 60's was when GM was rolling in $$$$. The 70's was the begining of the slide. First the 1970 strike, then 73 OPEC embargo, Chevy Vega issues, the rest is history.

One other point is before the credit crunch, Malibu and other new prodcuts were selling well. So the idea that GM "still makes junk" is moot.
-
The Transplants will be hurt by bankrupt suppliers. Also, Honda cannot just take over all truck production. All you snob who think trucks are 'useless', try using that Accord pickup [ie Ridgeline] to haul bricks. Hyundai is moving metel with huge rebates, [sound familiar?] and their warranty is overrated. Powertrain, not bumper to bumper for 100k miles. Also, Hyundai is supported by South Korea government, and their workers will strike [as before] if Hyundai tries to push them to make more products.

"335d on sale soon for $44,900 (and tax credit eligible). " Who the $@!#!# can afford that?? Rich jerks couldn't care less about "the masses". But they will not be able to get thier $44K Beemer when they loose everything too. Again, so sick of hearing about petty stuff like interior "feel" and 8 speeds. Most people cant afford luxo crap. So since GM doesnt have snob appeal, millions should lose jobs?
-
"...In the 70s and 80s they built junk,..." God I am sooo sick of hearing about ancient history. When will some quit bringing up old times? GM/F/CC are NOT making "junk" and people have to look at the current products! Maybe 'taste masters' don't like "the feel of the interior materials", but that's no reason to lay off hundreds of thousands of workers. And, if one thinks having only import makes will be 'better'. Just wait for higher prices from less competetion. In fact a brand new car will be a 'luxury item', since many will have "McJobs".

Nation's biggest Chevy dealer closes all dealerships
Chicagoland replied to BigPontiac's topic in Chevrolet
In Chi-town, Chevy dealers within 5-10 miles of each other, would say 'we'll beat any dealer's price on Cavalier, Corsica, truck, etc'. And yeah, one could get good purchase price. BUT, they get buyers with Doc fees, clearcoat, pinstripes, and Gap insurance. In other words, they'd grind you to get add ons. So, customer really doesnt get better price. -
Yes, Olds once was cool. What hurt them the most was the 78-85 diesels.
-
GM should get Russia and China to help with bail out too! The UK govt is even offering assistance, so should other countries with large GM presence.

Detroit News: "GM will announce 'important changes'"
Chicagoland replied to wildcat's topic in General Motors
During the SUV 'boom', the high resale and demand enabled low lease payments. Also, the expectation to get a new one every 3 years. But, all the off lease trucks piled up, since used car buyers really couldnt afford the over priced tanks. I also think that once word got down to the common car buyers that GM/F/C 'makes $10K on each SUV sale', people demanded huge discounts. Then the s%$# hit the fan..... -
But is it enough to save Chrysler?
-
Well, with whats going on nowadays, looks like we wont see Bonnevilles or GP's anymore.

Just make P-B-G-S cars as part of "Chevrolet a wholly owned subsidiary" as models and then gradually phase them out. Sorry to say but there's no need for Pontiac/Saturn/etc anymore. With losses in the billions, there is no need for other GM dealers trying to grab same Delta/Epsilon/Gamma car customers. Been doing that far too long. "GM Corp" engines are all used now, and with Corvette/Camaro, the whole "Pontiac is RWD performance divsion" doesn't work either. Chevy should be the foundation of GM. The G8 is too pricey for muscle car fans [they expect 1980's prices], also, the Solstice is 'out of style' with trendy buyers. The 'GMC is professional grade' is pure BS, Chevy trucks are exactly the same. They can then brag that they have #1 pick up. Just keep Buicks or Saturns as step up models offered at Chevy dealers, or just sell Buick in China. Or, just have GMC name for all commerical trucks.
