  1. Contrary to what some young people think, not all pre 1973 RWD cars were 'muscle cars'. Example: Most big Chevys were not Impala SS's, and had 2 barrel carbed v8's. Same with Chevelles. And no way was the Olds 98 a 'muscle car', either. A true 'muscle car' is a special edition coupe with engines around 400CI up. Don't change Car History facts. The Aussie GTO was a Lutz dream car, eager to please the buffs who demanded that GM bring over the Monaro. Now look?
  2. Automotive News sent an email to subscribers [me], also.
  3. It funny that someone said Chevys are 'cheap' and BOP are 'better", when in fact for the past 25 yers, they have made the same cars in the same plants. It's mostly old thinking that a Buick is 'better', even if they share the assembly line with those 'cheap' Chevys. "Old think" is bringing GM down. Ignoring growing states/markets, thinking younger buyers will 'grow up and only buy GM', and that imports are a 'fad'. Also, thinking the Gov't will bail them out and restrict import makes. Not gonna happen. Another 'old think' is "Oh just kill Saturn'. This from the same who slit thier wrists when Olds died. As if it won't cost a dime to pay off all the dealers and the huge embarrasment to GM?
  4. Yeah it is real easy to tell that from the spy pics??? Caliber has more style than the derivatory Impala and Cobalt.
  5. Toyota Supra was a fast car, but still. No question, all 3 "Pony cars'' should be made, to amke $$ and to bring in lookers. Then some may look at a newer sedan and realize they are not as bad as 15 year old models.
  6. That Escalade and Tahoe are 'sickeningly similar' also. Anyway, if GM fans want young people to buy Pontiacs, they have to be affordable. Not offer just $30K+ big cars. And sing praises that the U body Montana van is finally dead.
  7. Lots of Pontiac dealers in Northern cities sell them to lower income buyers, too. One dealer in Chicago was #1 in Sunfire sales and begged to keep it around for 2005. Again, to those riled up, look at a 1955 Pontiac and see how much Chevy is in it.
  8. It is a mid cycle change, so they couldn't do a 'ground up' change. But, I hope this means the end of center gauge clusters!

    SONATA

Paulie let his Mom not get a Buick? Just kidding. The Sonata is overrated hype. It's geting a pass on lookin ugly since it has the "Wow Hyundai makes a nice car".
  10. Yeah, lots of media hype about how big trucks are Detroit's "last bastion" and the Asians will walk in and take sales based on their names only.
  11. 200 'new jobs' are going to the job bank, so not truly 'new'.
  12. "$13K with different sheetmetal than the Cobalt " They would lose $$, since small cars have razor thin margins. The cost to stamp 'Pontiac sheetmetal' for the car trivia nuts, is cost prohibitive, this isn't the 1960's. Only GM Deawoo could do such a car, with Korean workers, for that low price.
  13. I'd like to see him clear out the 'it's just a good paycheck and free car' types.
  14. With gas prices, what did you all expect?
  15. Pontiac has shared designs with Chevy since 1926. Look at how similr the 55 Chevy and Pontiac look. Heck, there was even a Pontiac version of the 'classic' Nomad. Some still think the 1960's Pontiacs were 100% unique parts. No, they had common bodyshells and frames. Only engines were divisional until 80's. Point is that they can only do so much 'divisional uniqueness' with the huge losses and costs. Can't expect GM and Pontiac to be like it was in 1964, but then OTOH, they shouldn't do badge only cars like T1000's and Astres.
  16. Widely-accepted actual output of the RA IV. That is old Gross HP measurement, which is NOT camparable to Net HP, used for 33 years. Gross HP is taken with no accesories attached, Net is with and more realistic. People have been forgetting this since 1972, when makers started doing this. When will this end?
  17. If the Challenger will be a limited edition model, it will then have to cost over $27K. If GM goes this route, how many C&G members will pay this much for a new Camaro?
  18. The Chevy Impala goes against Dodge Charger, not Chrysler 300 series. The '2007 Sebring' is for those that wanted a FWD LH car replacement. Some wonder why there is base and other 300's, instead of just the Hemi? Well, these days, with marketing costs so high. They cannot afford to have "Newport, New Yorker, 300, Imperial'. Just like Chevy doesn't have 'Biscayne, BelAir, Impala, Caprice'. Now it's trim designation letter/names to one name of the line.
  19. You are never going to see 'entry level priced' RWD coupes, ever again. T1000's and Astres are not coming back. And this idea that Pontiac has to sell evey car Chevy sells is as dead as the Caddy valiant attempt at an entry-level luxury car. Especially with GM needing to cut back and get back to profit. No way is Pontiac going offer as many cars as the 'good old days'.
  20. Yes its nice, but offical word would be way nicer. Even better, actual cars on carriers.
  21. HollywoodExtra.com = Weekly World News Wait for real pics.
  22. Will there be AWD?
  23. Look at GM's cars from the 60's, way better at differances then the boring 90's cars.
  24. "Boo"? To lots of reinfinement and updates? Only hobbyists who like to memorize car data cry about names going. Cadillac sure has done better since names rolled away. DTS is up 50% over DeVille. So, looks like product content is more important than sentimentality and trivia.
  25. And isn't Poncho supposed to NOT be entry level brand now? Ask all the UAW to cut their pay, and then maybe you all can see more 'Poncho' models
