  1. If you look at the 'footprint' of a Tahoe vs. a Trail-Rainer-Envoy, they are nearly the same, but Tahoe offers more room and utility. GM wants to keep the Tahoe/Suburban and the Equin-orrent, but the middies are getting squeezed out. Tahoes now get same or better MPG, why get a Blazer?
  2. With gas prices high, doubt that any truck based SUV is going to 'take off'. The Pathfinder and 4 runner are so high priced, the Tahoe pretty much competes with them now.
  3. People who want more room will get a truck/van. And save a smaller car for 'sporting'.
  4. "Get a grip?" When a segment halves in 6 years, that is alot. Most loyal to shrinking segments buy used, also. The Tahoe gets nearly same MPG and more room. Why bother with overlap? And don't say "tradition". That is what got GM in trouble. To those that screm 'bias' every time, well, should it be like old East Germany? Remember the Trabant? Have government owned GM and people are forced to only buy from them.
  5. Umm, the 'fresher' competition is getting killed also. "New" Explorer, Cherokee, and Durango are collecting dust. This segment was fashionable 10-17 years ago, now as passe' as Landau Vinyl Tops. Buyers either want true full size SUV's or gas saving cross over utes.
  6. Pontiac is not a luxury/high priced make. It isn't the 1960's and gas is never going to be 35 cents a gallon, so no they can't offer only RWD/V8's. Many buyers are not drag racers looking to jack up the rear end and add slicks to their new car. So offering RWD/FWD/AWD covers all the bases.
  7. Camaro is enough.
  8. No they base the EVO on the Lancer platfrom for costs. And they are nto BOF so no they don't "put an econobox body on it" Back to reality. Mitsu needs more mainstream hits, and not just a 'cult car' EVO. They have to sell more new cars and not used ones to kids. Also, the Civic my not look 'mainstream' anymore, but it is selling out, much better than lots of GM cars.
  9. I forgot all about the early 60's Impalas and BelAirs with 409's, there were many race packaged cars sold then. The '62 BelAir coupe was popular with racers, since it was cheaper and a bit lighter, not sure by how much though.
  10. No, they are sold out and no, they are not meant to "beat Mustang sales". Sky is bringing in new blood to Saturn. No, Pontiac is not going to be the only division that sells Kappa cars. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a contract or something that states that GM must offer a Trans Am package if it builds a Firebird any year? You know. Like the whole Impala/Oshawa issue?" Where do some of these rumors come from "Weekly World News" or "The National Enquirer"? "Aliens are making new Oldsmobiles on Mars"

It looks fine, some exepct a '1959 Chevy' change every time there is a new car. Looks aren't everything, what is new underneath? How about the interior? How does it drive???
  12. Geo is long forgotten by 95% of the real world. Some only remember the Storm or Metro. And even at that, they say "Chevy Geo..." Edsel and Oakland brands have a better chance of coming back then Geo.
  13. "dropping the Trans Am completely was utter stupidity " No, it was the Firebird line that was dropped completely, the TA was just a trim level. Why do some still call all Firebirds "Trans Am"s? GM had to pay a fee for every Trans AM made to the TA racing series. So, it saves them $$ to drop the TA name. But maybe Firebird name has a chance.
  14. Funny thing is they are on "part 79". Didn't "they" think GM would be belly up by now??
  15. They only sold Invictas for 3-4 years, and over 40 years ago. Only 'Buick geeks' remember the name, and it was not from their origins, either. It sounds like some old medicine or even a disease.
  16. He does accurately point out that Bunke Knudsen started the 'performance image' in the mid 50's, not DeLorean. Also, while the Trans Am was doing well in the 1970's, the LeMans was trying to be an Olds Cutlass. The 78-81 LeMans has to much chrome and vinyl, and blurred the image, to where it was renamed Bonneville in 82. etc,etc.. Was not until 1987, when the chrome boats were dropped.
  17. I have seen pictures of a dealer prepped 1968 Biscayne 2 door with a 427/4 speed. I don't know if it was Yenko, maybe it was Nickey in Chicago. For the kids, "Biscayne" was the base base full sized Chevy [they weren't all called Impala], below BelAir. Offered until 1972.
  18. They would have to cut divisions to get a car to one car line/model sell 300-400K these days. Camry sales include the Solara, also, which really isn't fair. Why cannot GM say "W Body" sales are ####?
  19. MAny forget that in the 50s and 60s, the full szied Chevys were different series names, not all Impala. Eventaully Caprice toook over the whole line in 1986. The Impalas from 1977-85 were jsut strippo Caprices. Anyway, article is biased, and there are other good US cars.
  20. I think most 'tuners' have learned that a FWD Civic is not a substitute for a RWD or AWD sporty/sports car. Example, the EVO and WRX are more popular, and the Civic is fading. What is "out" is the whole "rice" scene. Thinking any import compact can be made into a 'sports car' and added the tacky add-ons. Also, the cars in the 3rd F&F movie seem to be RWD cars, Nissan Z, Supra, and some US cars.
  21. They are about to re-tool for the new ones, so they are slowing down, yes.
  22. The Caliber shows that the "OH no Americans won't buy hatchbacks" were way wrong.
  23. I will be glad when they finally stop making Tauruses. They drag down Ford to bargain sub-basement level.
  24. They do need a "Catalina/Tempest" type vehcile to sell in volume to those who can't afford a GTO/GTP, etc.. Thus, keep the G6 line going.
  25. GM has enough names, why do some want to bring every car name back, including Edse, Yugo,l and DeSoto?
