Cadillac News: Cadillac Drops 2.0T from CT6 In the US
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
The Escalade is that, but I think there is room above the Escalade for another SUV. That high dollar SUV segment is about to get flooded. CT6, CT5, CT4 aligned against E, C and A-class respectively is probably Cadillac’s best strategy to go with. And you can swap in 5, 3, and 1-series or A6, A4, A3 or S90, S60, S40 if you prefer those comparisons. -

I suppose they could go that route. But we are also in a position where Cadillac’s “flagship” is competing with the E300/E450. -
Cadillac News: Cadillac Drops 2.0T from CT6 In the US

Oh 2.0T, we hardly knew ye. CT6 needed to ditch the 4 cylinder. AWD on all models makes sense, most buyers will opt for it anyway, so it just gives less configurations to have to build. I actually think the CT6 would be more compelling with the 3.0 turbo standard and make the car $59,000. Then it would align with an A6 and E450. And allow some space for the CT5 in the $40-59k range. I actually think all Cadillacs should be turbocharged and all wheel drive. -
The idea of 4-door coupe is so played out now, Mercedes should drop the CLS after this generation. They have an E-class sedan and E-class 2 door coupe, as a coupe should be. That is enough, and the AMG GT 4-door is there is you want something else and that has actual performance, where as the CLS is like an oversized, overweight E-class at this point.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG Going AWD for All
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
4Matic+ is the way to go. You need grip to put the power down. Makes sense to make it standard. -
What would probably make sense is to build Electric vehicles, since such a huge portion of Mitsubishi's business is you know, Electric.

It is, but they botched the 2019 model, I think that is the worst looking car they make now. Gen 1 and 2 were spot on though.
-
Agreed and I imagine China will be the super power of the world in 20 years. It won’t be the USA given their population size and economic growth rate.
-
The Stinger because of the roofline has less rear seat head room than a C-class. I still say the Stinger isn't worth the money. It either needs a better interior, or Mustang level pricing.
-
They probably had 20,000 rear seats that they bought for Malibus then cut production and never use the so they ended up in the CT5. This car may have some flaws, but we don't know the price yet, if it is like $37k, then this is Nissan Maxima money, which then this doesn't look so bad.
-
If they price it in the high $30s I guess it would compete with a Q50, 3-series, TLX, MKX, ES350, S60, etc. Although the 3-series is a bit the oddball of that group. Really what Cadillac should say, it is a mid-size luxury sedan at X price, and not compare it to BMW. CT4 might be the size of today's ATS, but like $29,995. Maybe it will be the size of today's ATS but with a CT6 level interior and cost the same as a CT5. Who knows. I don't get why the big car necessarily has to have the best interior, why can't the small car have the best interior and maybe they sell interior vs size and horsepower on CT4.
-
Power Trip on a 2.0 4-cylinder is laughable. Maybe on the TT V6 they can use that, but they should have something about 30+ mpg efficiency on the base engine, with no mention of power. This is probably why Cadillac can't sell cars, they push the 2 liter car as the fast lane, so why buy the big engine. And no mention of efficiency for people there aren't buying it for performance.
-
Then don't buy the base engine. If the CT5 is priced under $40k to start I don't know that a C300 or ES350 are all that fast, probably quicker than the base CT5, but I don't think those buyers care. CT6's base engine is too weak, I agree with you there. I think the CT5 V6 needs some quickness as it is then competing with some quick cars to capture buyers that do care more about performance. I would argue Cadillac might be better served not trying to "sell" a sports sedan. They should be promoting luxury and other attributes. Obviously you don't want a car with sloppy handling that body rolls all over the place like an 80s Town Car, but pushing sport has got them no where over the past 15 years.
-
But the media people at the show I have listened to are being told by Cadillac that the CT5 competes with a C-class.
-
Pricing is key for them. If they price it like a Lexus ES or Acura TLX But have a better chassis and engine options, I think they can beat those cars. They probably need this car to start in the $30s to give the salespeople a compelling reason for people to buy it. And they do have to get away from the Germans with this one.

True, but the Sonata has a 1.6T and automatic right? They could use that 181 hp motor too.

If they don’t put unnecessary luxury equipment like rear heated seats in the N sport package then it shouldn’t be over $25k to add a turbo and brake upgrade and some suspension tuning to let’s say the base car plus an equipment group that costs $20k in regular guise.

If they can get an N sport with the 1.6 turbo for under $25k they could have something going there. I think it looks clever, people like crossovers and like cheap so it should sell. I like the 2 tone interior and my guess is blue and tan plastic doesn’t cost any more than gray plastic. So smart move to put some color in the interior rather than just a sea of gray and black.

Good write up. My first impressions based on pictures was that the interior was outstanding, but I saw a video from the show that showed it close up and you can see the Ford Fusion grade plastics and rubber on some of the door panels and lower parts. But you see that sort on other cars in this class. This still seems among the best interiors at it’s price point so kudos to Lincoln for that. At least these guys are trying and doing the best they can with styling, names and interiors, and they have pretty decent power in these cars too. I thought 5 years ago Lincoln would be dead by 2020.

A BMW M340i and C43 AMG are both $55k. If Cadillac is pricing CT5 like those guys, then a TT V6 CT5 needs to be in that $50k-55k range, because those cars are pretty fast. The CT5 has interior room to sell on since it is bigger than them, but it has to match them in performance too, and the C43 is probably becoming the C53 in a couple years with the new E-class engine.
-
I don't think they'll overprice the V6. My guess is turbo V6 is in the $50k range. Although I think interiors and brand image hurt Cadillac more than the engine. They could make the Blackwing V8 standard and price this car at $50k and the 5-series with a 250 hp 4-banger would outsell it.
-
0% chance of that happening. From what I read, the CT5 is going to be priced like a C-class. But even at $40k, it won't get E-class volume in the USA. The sedan market is shrinking and Mercedes has too strong a buyer loyalty.
-
I think it looks like a last gen Mazda 3 with the smiley face front. While I think the Corsair looks pretty impressive, this does not. One hit, one miss. I think any of the 7 SUVs Hyundai has is more compelling than this.
