Well it makes more financial sense for Chevy to introduce a crossover in between the Equinox and Blazer than to do a new Camaro, because then they can do a GMC clone of it too. Sadly the people just want more crossovers. I think this crossover craze sucks, but the tribe has spoken.
-
And yet Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and AMG have them, and Ferrari is coming. No one buys the Alfa Romeo or Maserati crossovers, but no one buys from those brands anyway. Ford wouldn't do Edge ST and Explorer ST if they didn't think they could sell them.
-
They should build something like this. They need a halo sports car product to compete with Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and all those guys. Plus they need to push their EV cars.

The Camaro got too expensive, plus gen 6 doesn’t look as good as gen 5 and you can’t see out of them. People also want crossovers not coupes, so they better get performance crossovers ready.

JLR better hope Fiat stays in business in the USA so there is someone worse than they are. -
Jaguar News: Jaguar Land Rover Insists It Is Not For Sale

JD power IQS is very subjective. They are just asking customers if they have a complaint or problem with their vehicle in the first 90 days, not being able to figure out how to pair your phone to blue tooth could be a problem. That survey has nothing to do with overall reliability or cost of ownership. I don’t think JLR will survive on their own. Not enough volume, too expensive to develop electric powertrain and autonomous vehicles. JLR could be gone with one recession without a partner. -
I think they will sell a lot of these. I suspect the Hyundai Palisade will sell well also. They both look good, they both are packed with content and both cost less than most of the rivals. The Atlas and Ascent I think are mostly just to appeal to existing VW and Subaru owners that need a 3rd row, they don't really make any breakthroughs. The Hyundai/Kia cousins I think came to conquest sales.

They never let an engine go that long or be underpowered for the time. But it isn't 4.6 liters to get 255 hp. Cadillac should just kill the XT6 now, no way they can compete with the GX460. And the Lincoln Aviator is DOA, that 400+ hp hybrid deal they got going on is no match for the Lexus V8.

The consumer public will not be satisfied until there are 1,000 crossovers available for under $30,000. And 1,000 more for above $30,000.

More than Lincoln? Or Maserati? or Alfa Romeo? Cadillac I think does better than that group, but I don't really shop used Cadillac prices. -

They could make a 500 hp V8 standard in the Q70 and the E-class with its 255 hp 4-banger would outsell it. In fact, I think this will be the last Q70 and Infiniti will just kill it, Lexus will kill the GS. They can't compete with the E-class. Cadillac is taking the CTS to have CT5 compete with the C-class. BMW is the only brand up to the challenge, this might as well be a 2 car segment in the USA and the Chinese love the Audi A6, which I admit has a very nice interior, perhaps as good as the E, better than the 5. -
An electric motor, carbon fiber body BMW supercar would be a good play. And be a halo for future EV's after the craptastic i3 and i8 bombed.

Old doesn't make it reliable. How is a GX more reliable than an RX350 or ES350? That 4.7 was from the 90s Tundra I think. Even that 4.6 V8 was dated when it launched, it was among the least powerful V8s in the luxury segment in 2009 and 10 years later they are still making it. The G-wagen used 3 V8's (not counting AMG) from 2006 to 2017. That is why it made 302 hp in 2006 and 416 in 2016.And the G-wagen hit an all time sales record in 2016 and beat that record in 2017 and I believe is the #1 selling vehicle over $125,000. When the Lexus GX has rising sales and is #1 selling vehicle over $50,000 then I will give them a pass on crap engines.

Lexus (overall as a brand) makes the most reliable cars compared to any other brand. They are the reliability champion, no one does it better. That has little to do the dated ass engine in the GX, because the LS, LC, NX and RX Hybrid are reliable and they have newer engines. The Avalon, errrr ES350 has a newer engine. And Lexus buyers DO care about fuel economy, as Toyota preaches fuel economy until the cows come home. The GX460 has awful fuel economy, and the fact they haven't really updated GX since like 2003 other than some front facia revisions is embarrassing. I gave Toyota the Finger of Shame for not making the Tundra more competitive, this is another Finger of Shame to Toyota for letting this monstrosity go on sale. And you probably think the GX460 is better than the XT6 because the GX is more reliable and has "V8 power."
-
Exactly! 2 weeks ago everyone here was saying 335 hp and 400 lb-ft from a 3 liter V6 that will probably pull more like 20/30 mpg was not enough power in the Cadillac CT5. Now the same people say a 301 hp V8 with 15/18 mpg is a good thing because it is reliable. Maybe GM should dump all their 420 hp 6.2 V8s and buy some of these Lexus V8s so they can have best in class reliability with the Silverado and Escalade. Hell, the Silverado's 4 cylinder makes more power than the Lexus V8.
-
Is the Lexus 4.7 V8 from 2007 era, more refined, quieter, and more reliable than the 3.5 V6 hybrid system in the RX or the turbo V6 in their top of the line LS and LC products? If the 4.7 is the superior engine than the $100,000 LC500 should use it. The GX V8 was barely competitive with the Northstar V8 that GM killed in 2009. Imagine a 2020 Escalade or CT6 with the STS's Northstar cranking out 320 hp and Cadillac saying they use that engine because it is reliable.
-
Agreed. This looks pretty good and the headlights make it look expensive. You wouldn’t guess that this is competing with a Traxx or HRV by looking at it. It looks a level or two up. “Floating” NAV screen! Industry first!
-
The 4 cylinder Q7 and GLE are both faster than a V8 Lexus GX460. And the Q7 and GLE have more powerful engine options too, GX460 doesn’t. No doubt Lexuses are reliable, they are the most reliable vehicle on the road. But the GX could use the 415 hp V6 from the LS and still be reliable.

2018 Infiniti Q70 sells for that price and cost E-class money new. 2016 CTS's are in the $22-25k range, all luxury sedans depreciate because they aren't crossovers. Let's be honest you could price an S-class, CT6, 7-series or anything else dollar for dollar even with a Toyota RAV4 and the RAV4 would outsell it just because it is a crossover. You give people the choice between a $30k RAV4 and a $30k brand new Rolls Royce and they will buy the RAV4 out of fear that the oil change on a Phantom costs more than on a Toyota. -
It isn't about trusting a 10 year old GX, it is why would anyone pay $53K or more for a GX that has the same engine it had 10 years ago. On the XT6 thread most of us were saying they need an option powertrain because 310 hp isn't enough. Well the XT6 has 9 more hp than the GX460 and probably beats it by 5 mpg easily. Old isn't reliable. The Dodge Journey is old, that isn't reliable or quality made.
-
Audi Q7 starts at $53,550. It is also nearly the size of a GLS. Toyota can't make a reliable car with a modern engine? They can't make a GX that gets 25 mpg highway rather than 18 mpg highway? It is lazy on the part of Toyota.
-
They should probably do a hyper SUV called X-ONE M and make that a carbon fiber SUV under 4,000 lbs that has 700 hp with a 200+ mph top speed. The sports car market is flooded and those guys are moving into SUVs, BMW should go in there before that is too late and there is no AMG in that market yet.

The G-wagen wasn't reliable because it was old, it was reliable because Mercedes engineered to take a beating and had them hand built, and it always had the current V8. A lot of that GLE is model changeover. With the 3-row GLE on sale now that will turn course this year. That Cadillac V8 is old too, not Lexus old, at least GM updates their small block V8s with some frequency. And it doesn't spank the Germans as the X7 has 521 hp, the GLS has 488 + an electric motor and the Escalade has 420 hp. And I imagine BMW is going to do an X7 M and and X8 M, because Mercedes has a GLS63 and a GLS73 on the way. And then Bentley will have to answer because their 600 hp Bentayga will look lame vs a GLS73 or a Ferrari Purosangue.

Not even a concept, they just let the engineers build it for fun with G-wagen 4x4 Squared parts. They did build the EQ concept crossover, the S-class cabriolet concept, the Ener G-force concept is the GLB, the Maybach SUV is coming next year, the AMG GT Concept is the GT 4-door, so they are building a good number of concepts.
