Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG One Delayed
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Tobias Moers wants it built, they will get it done. The hard part is done. The car works, Mercedes is well on their way to a 6th consecutive F1 championship with this power unit. It just doesn't pass an emissions test. It doesn't really need any EV range, but nice that it is there. The F1 car is a hybrid anyway, so why not throw in 2 extra motors and an extra battery. -

25 more miles than the Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Aventator and Ferrari LaFerrari. 25 more than a Formula 1 car too. -

Well that Dodge can't do corners. AMG One's track performance is going to be legendary. Targeting Nurburgring in the 5's. You'd also think that being a hybrid and being able to run on full EV that it should meet emissions. Because in theory the gas engine could only run half the time. -

They aren't going to kill it, this is their moon shot vehicle. This is their chance to build a car that it might take 20 years before anyone rivals it. They are all in at this point, and the cost of developing the powertrain which is the expensive part is done. This is a matter of spending money to get it emissions certified. They can eat a billion dollar fine too. These big corporations sit on big cash reserves, they'll probably use the loss as a tax write off and move on. Daimler lost way more on money on Chrysler than it will on these fines and they are still here, and still #1 luxury car producer. No one has done something like this, the current F1 engines are ridiculous, I've heard the power unit in an F1 car is about $5 million. I imagine they are selling AMG One at a loss, unless the economies of scale have allowed them to turn a profit at $3 million. -

No but they will figure it out. -

It is a 1.6 liter engine, they should be able to get it to meet emissions. Obviously they have to add on to what the F1 car has in exhaust cleaning, but that should be doable. Maybe an electric heater on the oil reservoir. They’ll figure it out. And no one will pull their money because this is a unique product. Important thing is to get it road legal and not just a track tow or something that sits in a museum. -
GM is being sued for diesels in pick up trucks. I am not sure what company hasn’t had a problem with a diesel.

Better dump these diesels and make EV’s. This is also why CAFE and standards like it are pointless. Because you can’t hit the numbers without a diesel and diesel isn’t clean, and all these companies did the same thing. Gas taxes are a better way to motivate less consumption.

3-series isn’t going anywhere and there is a new i4 sedan coming in a year. So they’ll have minimum 4 sedans.

Cutting models doesn't mean sales drop. People are buying crossovers like there is no tomorrow. Sports cars like the Supra and Z4 will probably die after this generation because people would rather spend $80k on an X3 M vs $60k on a Z4.

Nissan News: Nissan Titan XD Loses Diesel and Single Cab
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Nissan
The power of the Titan is fine, but it is about 4 mpg behind the F150. 15/21 on the Titan isn't very good when Chevy has a 30 mpg Silverado. -
Nissan News: Nissan Titan XD Loses Diesel and Single Cab
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Nissan
Right and a 3 liter engine would get better mileage than a 5.7 liter. My car’s V8 basically has the same power/torque output of the 2020 Titan but my car is a 2008. Nissan shouldn’t be selling 2008 power in 2020 unless they are selling at huge discounts. -
So they kill the 6 series only to bring out an 8-series coupe, convertible and gran coupe which cost $30k more than the 6-series. They also have an X8 coming. So they aren’t really shrinking the lineup they are just pushing more SUVs and more expensive cars.

Nissan News: Nissan Titan XD Loses Diesel and Single Cab
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Nissan
That 5.6 V8 is super old. The Titan needs more engine options, not less. They also needs newer engines, not only is that V8 old, but those VQ V6's in most of the Nissan/Infiniti cars are from 10-15 years ago. The Titan as it is needs to be a price leader, it needs a $5,000 price cut to get to a $28k base price for a King Cab model. They should undercut every F150 model by $5k. -
I make over $70 per day, maybe I can buy the factory.

Calling it now, Underpowered. -
The American market is Mercedes’ #3 volume market so it isn’t their most important and they sell a lot of A-class based product in China and Europe so some of this stuff that may not sell well here sells well other places to pay for it. Business is always boomin’ even when it isn’t.

Chevrolet News:Corvette C8 Almost Sold Out Already
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
I bet the AMG GT outsells the ZR1 that is equal money. Probably still less money since an AMG GT can go to $200k. -
Problem with this brand is Nissan is pretty much a discount/fleet kind of brand, so how do you make a luxury brand out of those products? And some of this stuff like the Q70 is older than dirt.
-
Japanese luxury brands all down, Audi down, over at Mercedes business is boomin'
-
Up 22.9% without a GLS to sell really as they clear out the left over models from the old generation. Back in business here, GLE is doing really well now with the new one, and G-wagon and AGM GT are going well which is good when the big money stuff sells. Could use more C-class sales.

Chevrolet News:Corvette C8 Almost Sold Out Already
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Chevy made the right call to go automatic only. Manual would add to the price, add to the engineering budget then they have to pay to certify it , and then they would sell 50 of them a year and have to discount them when they sit on dealer lots. -

Enthusiasts don’t drive the market or determine what gets built. Crossover buyers and government regulations do. Another reason to kill the manual is electric cars are going to replace ICE anyway, government regs will force that in time.
