This speaks VOLUMES about MB FAILED ability to get EVs to the US market. Now consider that still more Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles are in the pipeline with not-yet-announced timing. Würth said: So no real luxury EVs, just compact mid cost BEVs sometime in the future. which makes the other news reports saying 3 BEVs by 2025 questionable as they are not committing to any release schedule for the US. Mercedes-Benz launches $1.65bn plan to expand electric vehicle battery production (thedriven.io) This news story even lends credibility to the fact that MB will not have BEVs till maybe 2023 in the US as 2022 is when they move into their new Battery and BEV parts buildings in Alabama. New $54M parts facility will boost Mercedes EV production in Alabama (madeinalabama.com) As such, that would imply time to setup production, run tests and get things worked out with the local work force before they can start building and shipping BEVs. At best, I would expect 3 BEVs by 2025. The EQS is 207 inches long, the S-class is 208, not sure that that guy is talking about. There is 3 final product and 4 that are late in development that will be ready in 2022. I hope Lincoln goes from their 4 vehicle lineup, to adding 7 EV's in the next 2 years to keep up. And by the 2030s all the luxury brands will be mostly EV if not all EV, and the same brand that sold the most gasoline cars will sell the most EV's.

Because Gottlieb Daimler 125 ago had the motto "the best or nothing," and they honor that to this day. The G-wagon was the fastest selling vehicle in the USA in May, and at an average ATP of $174,700. I don't see many Toyota's selling for $174k, or Lexus for that matter. I don't see Lincoln selling Navigators at $174k, why not? They want to be "world class" then step up to the plate. The vans aren't luxury, they are commercial vehicles, Mercedes markets them that way as well. They aren't even sold though the same dealership network as their cars, nor are they even part of the same business unit as their cars.

Mercedes has EQA, EQB, EQC electric SUV's either on sale now or will be in 2022 in Europe and China, which are all converts of the gas models. EQS, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS SUV (dedicated EV platform) will be on sale by end of 2022. So that's 7 right there. I don't know that they need more than 7 EV's when EV is still a small segment of the market, at least in the USA, maybe will be bigger in Europe or China. And that is just in the next 18 months or so, by 2025 they'll have more than that.

If you have to say "we build world class product" you are admitting you don't and trying to convince people otherwise. The Corsair is a bottom feeder in it's segment just as the Escape is in its segment, the Nautilus is junk, the Aviator is mid-pack only because the Infiniti, Cadillac and Acura offerings in that segment are worse, and the Navigator lags behind the Germans and Escalade, and I suspect Lexus will get a version of the 2022 Land Cruiser which will be better too. The same people that think Lincoln is world class, thought the Continental was going to be a serious competitor to the luxury segment, and 4 years later the car is dead because it didn't sell, even though it cost 50% of a German car of the same size. None of their portfolio is competitive with the 4 German brands, Land Rover, Genesis, or Lexus. I would place Aviator over the MDX or XT6, but otherwise I'd put Cadillac or Acura offerings over Lincoln.

They care in China where the air quality is terrible. And maybe Los Angeles or NYC where congestion is bad, outside of that probably not.

To quote the Lincoln president, "Our clients deserve the very best from Lincoln. Our world-class vehicles, effortless services and advanced connected technology will allow us to create an always-on relationship with them and help transform the Lincoln brand for the future." Laughable that they think Lincoln builds "world class vehicles" It makes sense though to run Lincoln all EV, 9 years is still fairly far away and they are a low volume brand and not really competitive now, so might as well go a different direction. Plus their model line is small, won't be hard to build 3 electric SUVs, and maybe 1 sedan but Ford seems not interested in sedans. It isn't like they have to make a model line as diverse as Ford's all EV which would take much longer. Plus I think by 2030, EV will be standard expectation in the luxury segment.

Mercedes says over 99.65% of particles, I'll take their word for it. And that matches Tesla's 99.7%, and we know Tesla is more likely to round up numbers than Mercedes is.

The EQS's air filtration system is as good as a hospital operating room.

F1 gets 3 engines, MGU-K, MGU-H and transmissions per year and have 20-23 races a year. So their engine has to do 7 races and most of those laps are 70-80% full throttle at 15,000+ RPM. No passenger car could run 2 hours around a track near redline 80% of the time without everything over heating and the engine probably dying, let alone do that in 7 races, 7 qualifying sessions and 21 practice sessions.

Teslas's do seem quite durable. Mercedes used their Formula 1 powertrain team to help develop the EQS motors, and the new AMG plug-in hybrid powertrains. Formula 1 parts have to be pretty durable.

A6 E-tron will probably come up short of 400 on the EPA rating, but still adequate range for sure. Audi and Mercedes pose the biggest threat to Tesla. Lucid Air claims over 400, let's see what happens, they never have even built a car yet. And how is their quality going to be? Probably where Tesla's was 10 years ago. EQS is currently in production, as is the Model S. These other guys are concepts, pipe dreams, and "coming soon" product.

Mercedes is #1 in the world in luxury cars sales. Mercedes has the Nurburgring record holder, and 7 consecutive Formula 1 championships. They are king of the mountain at the track and the sales chart. Although Tesla and BMW beat Mercedes in the USA last year, so they need to get that sales title back.

It is not all that matter. The Model S is a freakishly fast car though, that is going to attract sales. But the Model 3 Performance also is really fast for less money, and the Model S was dated. Perhaps with this refresh the Model S will see an increase in sales.

Agreed but some will want a longer range so I think it is smart to offer a 400 mile option. All these EV’s are best served with a 200-250 mile range, any more than that is just hauling extra battery weight for no reason. But easy enough to sell a long range option.

Because they can get a Model 3 or Y for cheaper and the Model S is old. I think Model S could use a bigger update than it got, the did a mid cycle refresh a few years back, and when it was time for a new one, they did another mid cycle refresh. Personally I hope Mercedes buries Tesla the way they did most of the other luxury brands. I am not a Tesla fan. I am just being realistic that it isn’t going to be so easy. The Tesla Model S does it now, the Mercedes EQ S will do it. End of list.

How many sedans on market today do 0-60 in under 2 seconds? Or forget sedans, just cars in general? The Rimac in Europe but not here yet and the Model S. How many EV's have a 400+ mile range? Only the Model S. How many even hit 325 miles or more? Only Tesla's. No one has caught up yet. And they might, but Tesla won't stand still either. Better be fast because Mercedes is going to break that 6:43.6 record in the next couple months.

Cybertruck will be on sale before the F150 Lightning or the electric Silverado, and Cybertruck does some cool stuff, I think people will buy it. The Tesla Roadster is 3 times the cost of a Corvette, also anyone that is a Tesla fan, won't buy an ICE car, so they aren't buying Corvettes, plus the Model S is faster around a track than a C8. Also when is the Corvette going to take the Nurburgring record? Right now it is 42 seconds a lap slower than the AMG GT Black series, which in a few months will be Mercedes 2nd quickest car. Corvette has good performance per dollar, always has, but it isn't some world killer sports car. The Veyron has a 275 mph top speed, the Corvette's is like 200. The Corvette does 0-124 mph in 12 seconds, the AMG One does it in under 6. And even if they build a 1,000 hp Corvette in a few years, the Rimac Nevera is on sale now with 1,900 hp and an 8.6 second 1/4 mile time.

Ford, GM and VW combined have 4 EV's for sale right now, and that is even counting Bolt and Bolt EUV separately. Tesla has 4 too, and none of what Ford, VW or GM has is as good as what Tesla has right now. No one caught Tesla yet. Also you are just assuming that if Ford and GM or VW build EV's people will start buying them and shelling out $50k for a small SUV like the iD4. People in the USA aren't buying the Tiguan in any big number and that is a $25,000 SUV, why are they going to spend double Tiguan money, for an SUV the same size and performance as a Tiguan? People still buy brand names. Toyota still has a better brand image than Ford or Chevy for example. Tesla has a better brand image than any mainstream car, and better than most of the luxury cars. Saying Ford or Chevrolet are going to go head to head with Tesla is like saying Ford is going to go head to head with Lexus and Audi and charge Lexus and Audi prices and get people to pay it. It isn't going to happen. And yes the Mach-E will get some initial sales bump but Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda will all jump in there too, and those brands do pretty well.

I know the SLS had some beginnings when they were merged. But Daimler never told Dodge they couldn’t build a new Viper, Daimler walked with all those other platforms, they could have spent their own money on a new Viper. They could make a Viper now. You say they make all this profit yet haven’t put out a new vehicle that isn’t a Jeep in like 5 years. They were probably making money in the 90s I assume. Also Daimler had a dumb CEO then who was fired shortly after that merger.

Daimler paid $37 billion for Chrysler and sold it 9 years later for $7.4 billion because Chrysler was losing so much money. The fact that Daimler was willing to take a $30 billion loss just to get rid of it shows how bad their financial situation was. Also that no one was willing to pay over $7.4 billion for the company, which needed government bail out 2 years later. Daimler got nothing from Chrysler, Chrysler didn't make any money, and they didn't use any of those platforms or powertrains, other than the joint work on the ML and Jeep Grand Cherokee, which the ML got 2 new platforms before the Grand Cherokee got one. If Chrysler has so much money, why did it take until 2022 model year for Jeep to update a chassis from 2005, why is the Charger still on a 1990s Mercedes platform? Why doesn't Chrysler lead the market in EV? Daimler gave them the 300/Charger/Challenger and Grand Cherokee, which is what that company is build on outside of the Ram 1500. Italy gave them the Dart/200/Cherokee and Renegade. Without Fiat and Daimler, Ram would be just the 1500, Dodge would have been the Journey and Caravan, and Chrysler would have been the Town and Country/Pacifica. Jeep would have had the Patriot and Compass and Wrangler.

They split up because they knew Chrysler wasn't worth keeping. Chrysler got the Charger/300 platform, the Grand Cherokee platform and the Crossfire from Mercedes. Outside of the Ram 1500, their 2 most profitable vehicles of the past 15 years are because of Mercedes. And then Fiat gave them the Promaster and Promaster City, the platform the for the Dart/200/Cherokee, the platform for the Renegade. Chrysler has mooched off other companies for 20 years, and now all the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeeps will get Opel and Peugeot underpinnings and engines.
