  1. We've seen this not work with the GTO and the G8. The only Zeta car that has worked is the one that is built in Ontario Canada. Price could be an issue also. Assuming the Impala goes up in price some to the $28-35k range (and maybe even $40k as the Avalon and Maxima go up that high) would the SS sedan then be priced at $40k or even more?
  2. Lexus cars are either ugly or bland. Mostly moving from bland and boring of the early 2000s to just plain ugly now. The Elantra and Veloster look more youthful than just about any other small cars. Sonata looks classy for a mid-sizer. I like what they are doing. I like the Focus and Fusion also. I think those 2 brands are doing the best right now in the small and mid-size classes.
  3. Mighty Max might be a little ambitious of a name.
  4. Cheers, great condition and I like the black and silver sort of art deco thing going on with the interior. My only complaint is I wish it had a longer trunk.
  5. Hyundai I think has a more youthful look too, especially on the Elantra and Veloster. To me a car like the Cruze looks like something older people would drive, it looks bland and boring. As do the Civic and Corolla. So to Gen X and Gen Y, I think Hyundai is on to something. They must be, Nissan stopped production on the Altima to regroup when the 2011 Sonata came out, the Sonta raised the bar. I think the Caprice looks boring too, it has the same problems the G8 had. The 2013 Fusion is stunning looking, GM is in trouble in the mid-size segment. RWD could give them an edge in full size, but the 300C and Charger have that covered and look better than any GM full size sedan. And I am not a Chrysler/Dodge fan. The 2013 Impala looks okay from some angles, but looks like a Hyundai or VW from others. If the Impala goes up in price and loses the fleet business it will be interesting to see how it sells against the Azera and 300/Charger.
  6. The value and warranty are big parts, but I think a lot of people do like the Elantra and Sonata look. Especially after decades of boring looking Civivs, Camrys and Accords. The Azera continues the fluidic sculpture, if that sells well, I'd say the market is liking the styling. Although I'd say Kia's styling is a main reason they have seen growth, while Hyundai I think the value equation is the primary.
  7. I said cheers, although that red and white is a bit too pimpmobile for me.
  8. Bad car, ugly color, and it will break down all the time.
  9. It doesn't look like a McLaren, nor does it look like it does 200 mph. I say jeers because regardless of the trim package, it is still a 91 Grand Prix and those are junk.
  10. It says the XTS is being replaced though. Once Omega comes out, no XTS, according to Car and Driver.
  11. I read it all, but it sounds like they want to move the XTS to read drive, and it said the "flagship" still isn't approved. So it could be a while before a flagship car is done. The Ford Taurus has a turbo V6, doesn't make it a flagship sedan.
  12. This sounds to me like they plan to replace the XTS with a rear drive model, yet continue on with the 310 hp V6. And not really build an S-class competitor. This seems like a Hyundai Equus competitor with a weaker engine. It would be nice if they went with an S-class competitor and a big luxury coupe, but as Car and Driver pointed out, what engine does GM have for that sort of car? I do think they should keep Omega as Cadillac only, will be interesting to see what happens with it, but it looks like it will be a while before we find out.
  13. I could see this more for the Mini engines and probably small diesels for Europe. BMW has the straight six covered, they each have a good V8. Hybrid or fuel cell and other alternatives to gasoline I think what the partnership owuld be used for.
  14. Prices are correct. The 2.5 has to be be cheap because the engine is cheap. The 2.0T is priced the same as the 2.0T you get from BMW and the V6 is priced even with the 335i and slightly above the C350. So they have gone head on with the 3-series and I like that. We'd need to see the equipment list to really compare though. But I am glad they are pricing right against the Germans for a change, and expect the CTS V6 (which is cheaper than an ATS V6) to go up in price. The drawback of the ATS I fear could be the 6-speed, the rest of the segment has moved on from those. Cadillac's press release said 0-60 of under 6 seconds for the V6, but a 328i can do it in 5.4 seconds, a 335 down near 4.8. Will be interesting to see what the ATS's performance stats are and how the comparos go.
  15. The engine isn't the problem, in 9 years on the Aurora V8 I've had to replace oxygen sensors, some wiring and a power steering line. That's it, unless you count 3 engine mounts. My engine has been rock solid, it is the rest of the car that will fall apart around it. The build quality of a GM car, especially one of the old generation is what would worry me. Post bankruptcy cars may be better. In this case, I like an MKZ over a Buick.
  16. Actually the Lincoln MKZ isa good used car buy also, they can be had for under $20k and they always did well on JD Power reliability ratings. And the chassis isn't from the 1980s like the Town Car or W-body.
  17. I have a G-body car, it was not cheap to maintain. So hard to say with a Lucerne. I had 3 power windows break on my car, I think it is just GM build quality and luck of the draw. The 3.6 with a 6-speed shouldn't be much worse on gas than a 3900/4-speed. But again, if cost of ownership, then I go back to a 2011 Sonata GLS which used are about $18k.
  18. With an uncertain job situation it may not be a good idea to get a new car, but if you absolutely need one, I'd go lower on the price scale which rules out $27k on a LaCrosse. The Lucerne is so dated dated though, it was dated when it was new, imagine it in 5 years time. Aside from the Hyundai Sonata (the best car ever) I would say a 2006-2009 Cadillac STS is actually the best choice. An 07 STS is around $20,000.
  19. A BMW 328i can cross $50,000 with all the toys. Although I think that is too much for a 4-banger, I can easily see a V6 ATS hitting $50k, since a C350 or Audi S4 can, and a V6 CTS does as well.
  20. Nice, I like oddball classics.
  21. True on all acounts. Dealer pricing anywhere is high, I think it is cheaper and easier to deal with the Jiffy Lube, Midas, Mieneke type service shops. And my car is hard to work on. But I will say they are friendly and fix the car right every time in Wexford.
  22. Torque. 328i: 260 lb-ft @ 1250 rpm A4: 258 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm C250: 229 lb-ft @ 2200 RPM (and that is weak engine for the class) ATS: 190 lb-ft @ 4400 RPM ATS also has 6 gears, while BMW and Audi have 8. 328i and A4 2.0T both do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds so that should be the target for a base model ATS, and 34 mpg.
