  1. The Model S would make a great police car due to the speed, interior space, and limited maintenance needs, however look at the cost. Since Tesla gave them the car it isn't costing them anything, but to buy 100 or 200 cars at $100,000 each is going to piss off tax payers. Imagine if they bought Range Rover or S-class police cars, that would tick people off. Maybe when Tesla Model 3 arrives and they can get a $45,000 sedan or the Model Y crossover, then it becomes a viable option.
  2. I'd assume they will still be under 2 liter engines, but they have probably found they can rev it less and put less stress on a 1.6 liter, than they do on a boosted like crazy 1.2 or 1.4 that revs higher. I don't think they'll be going back to widespread V6s.
  3. The question is does the current E-class buyer base want this, or do they want a regular E-class wagon. I don't know if a $70k wagon is going to steal a lot of crossover sales, there aren't a lot of crossovers in that price point, and it is a small market. E-class wagon buyers are one of Mercedes most affluent customers though, so they'll want to keep those people happy.
  4. VTEC + Turbo equals a million horsepower per liter and the best gas mileage ever. In all seriousness, I think the 1.5L makes an impressive amount of power for a small engine, and probably will post a high fuel economy number too. I don't get why you have 2 engine choices with basically the same power output. It seems redundant. It would have made more sense to offer the 1.5L turbo and a 1.9 liter turbo with like 220 hp as an option. Other than that it looks like a CR-V and the inside looks nice for the class, I am sure they will sell tons of them.
  5. But will it cost $30,000? GM loves price diesels sky high, and diesel cars have a short window until they won't be emission compliant. I don't think they'll sell many due to price and lack of marketing.
  6. Not surprised at all. First off most people drive places they know, they drive back and forth from work, to the grocery store, to family's house, etc. They don't need NAV for 90% of their driving. Secondly, almost everyone has a phone that is as new or newer than their car, so their phone will probably have a better nav system anyway.
  7. It was too big to begin with and they made it larger? 137 lb weight loss is good, but it could have used like a 250 lb weight loss. And that interior looks the same as the current car. I don't think anything changed. Less powerful and less gears than an E-class too.
  8. As Germany goes, so will go the EU. They have so much influence, they hold up the EU economy. Sweden and Norway were looking at gas powered car sales bans around 2025, so other countries are on board. I think 2025 is too soon, but 2030 is still 13+ years away, by then electric cars will be much more viable and affordable. Eventually all cars will be EV, they are just pushing the envelop faster. The other thing to consider is they can say by 2030 they will ban gas cars, then in 2025, they can say we'll push it back to 2032 to give automakers more time, but you have to put that deadline out there, you can always push back, but you can't pull a deadline ahead. I am fine with an all EV car fleet, less pollution is great, less noise is great, less buying oil of all the corrupt governments and terrorists of the Middle East is great too. It will be a big win all around when we all have EV cars. The EV cars just have to be affordable, you have to have $20,000 EV cars for people.
  9. Mercedes has some wagon loyalists, this why the E-class wagon remains, and that is an affluent buyer group. If the Sales person tells a buyer this is the new XF crossover sport, some dopes will buy it just because they think it is a crossover. Call anything a crossover and give it awd and the sheep will line up to buy it.
  10. It's not a wagon, it is a low roof sport crossover. If they call it a crossover they will sell 1 million units.
  11. If they made the Regal a mid-size crossover coupe, it would sell better than the 4-door sedan they are trying to push.
  12. A V6 won't move the sales needle at all with the Regal. Most people buying a Regal probably are used to and prefer the 200 hp of their Lesabre or Mercury Milan. Anyone that wants a sports sedan isn't buying a Regal. Why Buick insists on trying to make Regal a Euro-sports sedan is beyond me, it doesn't fit the rest of the brand, and it doesn't work.
  13. I agree, Buick could add a 4th crossover in between Envision and Encore, there is about 16 or 17 inches in length between the 2 of them. I do think they need to sell a sedan, so LaCrosse is it, but Cascada doesn't sell much, Regal doesn't sell much. A Regal wagon won't sell at all, I don't see what they can do with the Regal to get better sales out of it, other than renaming it Camry. I am shocked they are putting a V6 in the Regal, how in the name of CAFE is that happening?
  14. More power is good when the chassis can handle it and put the power on the ground so it can be used. What is better, 707 hp in a Challenger or 420 hp in a Porsche 911? I think the Corvette should top out around 575 hp, and have a base model with like 350 hp so it sticks to a reasonable price point. Any GM product with over 600 hp should be a Cadillac. GM needs to build a sports car above Corvette, rather than trying to make the Corvette a super car competitor and throwing 700 hp into a chassis that won't be able to do anything with it. The AMG GT S is pretty fast, there is a GT R now too that will do better on a track, but that car is easy to drive on a track from what all the reviews and tests show, and the AMG GT did win best drivers car in 2015. Mercedes is making a 1,000+ hp hyper car, but they aren't making a 1,000 HP GT because that would be stupid and not in the cost range of a GT.
  15. The Z06 can't get the power down as it is, adding more power to it doesn't make it better. Corvette needs AWD and a 10-speed automatic and a better rear suspension.
  16. 3 Crossovers isn't enough when crossovers sell more than sedans. Toyota is bringing a smaller than Rav4 crossover, Lexus is getting one below the NX. BMW is going to have 7 crossovers on sale by 2018. Look at Jeep sales with industry worst reliability for years and their sales keep going up and up because people want that crossover/SUV. By 2025 crossovers could be 50% market share, sedans like 20%, coupes 2%, why does Chevy have Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Volt, Camaro, Corvette. 8 cars and 3 crossovers is a recipe for disaster with where the car market is going. I love cars, I'll never buy a crossover, but the market has spoken.
  17. The 5-series is crashing and burning. New model next year, but I think the big size, and dated look is catching up to it. BMW sedans all over are down this year which wouldn't be a problem but the X4, X5 and X6 down this year too, so they aren't just pushing people to higher profit crossovers. They are getting an X2 and an X7, that could help, but I think Mercedes has BMW beat.
  18. Enclave down 16%, Traverse down 10%, Equinox down 29, Terrain down 48%. Those aren't doing okay, they were left on market too long. Yes there is a new Equinox coming next year, but they could have used one like last year. I think Chevy for sure needs a crossover in between Equinox and Traverse. They need more than 3 crossovers.
  19. It shows how dated the Lambdas and Equinox are. People are going crossover crazy and those are all taking a beating. They need updated and more crossovers in a hurry.
  20. The ATS range needs work as a whole, mainly on the interior. I'd like to see them replace the 3.6 NA V6 with the 3.0 turbo. They also need all wheel drive on all V-series Cadillacs.
  21. Finally we get a successor to the Regal Joseph Abbbod. Makes sense to do this from a sales/marketing perspective. By putting a special grill and wheels on a Lacrosse and some stitching on the dash they get to charge $3,000 more for it.
  22. I watched the video presentation of this vehicle, Dieter Zetsche said this crossover when it hits production will be priced a moderately equipped GLC. That would make me think about $50k which is outstanding. I thought they would be in GLE price territory with this.
  23. The 310 miles is probably the Euro rating which tends to be higher. The Opel version of the Bolt is rated near 300 mile range, perhaps this Mercedes will be like a 250 mile range under US testing, but I am sure they would offer a 90 kWh battery too for more range.
