Try 241 buyers per month. The Accord Crosstour may make a return after the success of the 6-series GT And not sure how it sidetracked to far onto other luxury brands. My original question was about Acura. Because the TL, TLX, TSX, RLX over the years have all been strongly related to the Accord, which always had a V6. And I know you can engineer a car for different powertrains, but TLX already has a 4 cylinder base, I could see a turbo 4 going in there and the V6 getting dropped. They could drop the RLX all together, and Acura/Honda would have the V6 in the Pilot platform with Ridgeline, Odyssey, MDX, etc.

Volvo News: Rumorpile: Polestar To Build Standalone Performance Vehicles

Unless Polestar is building rear wheel drive cars, they are wasting their time. They already have maxed what you can do with fwd on the Volvos.- 2 replies

Looks ugly, but it has pretty good power for a small CUV. The 240 mile range EV will be appealing if the price is right. They'll probably sell 100,000 of them a year, because it is a CUV and small, it will just eat away at Elantra, Focus and Civic sales. And compact CUV = sales.

We could do VW vs GM in China and it is game over GM. The German 3 luxury brands are competing with each other, Cadillac, Acura, Lincoln, etc aren't even on their radar. In fact, Tesla is the brand the German 3 luxury brands are worried about. It got to luxury cars because I wondered about the future of Acura. Since the Accord is 4-cylinder only, they obviously are going to design it with a smaller under hood area and a structure made to carry less weight. So that won't work for Acura, so does Acura differentiate more from the Accord? Which they need to do.

Buick News: 2018 Buick Enclave To Begin Just Under $41,000
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Why don't Ford and GM build a better product? GM had 44% market share in 1980 and has 16% today. They can look in the mirror as to why that happened. But the competition makes everyone better and all boats rise with the tide. As for the Enclave, I think the base and Essence trims are pretty competitive for the size of vehicle with some luxury appointments. A mid-range Acura MDX is $50k and smaller than the Enclave with similar performance. If they still make the Lincoln MKT, that would be int he Enclave's segment, but it is no competition, Infiniti Pathfinder is nothing special, so the Enclave is positioned pretty well against this group. This is also a segment Genesis needs to get into. Avenir trim is the question mark for me, if that $56k as I said is every bell and whistle Buick has, then I think it is pushing the limits of the brand, but also still would have enough value for buyers. On the Buick website, it looks like the only Avenir option is a trailering package, so you are pretty much all in at $56k. So as I said in my first post, it is worth the money at that price, not worth it if it goes over $60k. -
Audi sold 591,000 cars in China last year, Cadillac sold 116,000. They have a long way to go. JLR I think outsold Cadillac in China last year. Going back to Acura , they have nothing doing outside of the USA. And being so heavily tied to the CR-V, Pilot and Accord I think is the reason why.

Globally Acura doesn't have much going, they are pretty much a North American brand. They need a 3rd and perhaps 4th crossover, they need a bit higher performance and better handling. They can carve out a good niche in entry lux with the Honda reliability behind them, but they'll never be global, nor will they ever be a tier 1 luxury car company. Sort of like how Lincoln will never be global, and never be tier 1. Both are just too closely tied to the main brand. Cadillac is growing fast in China, but still a long way behind the German 3.

Acura is outselling Cadillac in 2017. Acura needs an help, namely more crossovers and maybe a CL coupe/convertible revival, but things could be worse.

Pretty sure the Rolls-Royce Phantom outsold the Dodge Avenger last year, and might outsell the Chrysler 200 this year!

Buick News: 2018 Buick Enclave To Begin Just Under $41,000
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
I think it is appropriately priced. My one question though is with the Avenir trim, and if that includes everything, or is there another $10,000 in options available on top of that $56,000. Because we are getting into Audi Q7 territory in the $50s, and $65k is an Audi Q7 Prestige package. And the Enclave isn't Q7 nice or Q7 fast. Avenir loaded at $56k I think is still worth it if 3-row crossovers is your thing, but over $60k, why wouldn't you buy the Audi? And to that point, this is why they need a Cadillac XT7 in a hurry. -
There are probably more Accords on the road than GM W-bodies. What will be interesting here is the Accord is a great mass market sedan but not a good luxury or sports sedan when Acura sells it. So if Accord is built for sub 2 liter 4 cylinder engines, what about Acura? Doesn't make sense to put in extra space under hood or to increase weight to support a V6 that won't be in the Accord. And Acura isn't going to use a 1.5 liter turbo.

The Accord checks a lot of boxes for the average consumer. Reliable, check. Good gas mileage, check. Long lasting, check. Roomy interior, check. Inoffensive styling, check. Resale value, check. Honda knows what they are doing in the mid-size sedan segment.

Way too much money. And why didn't Nissan just engineer the Titan for left and right hand drive like most cars are. It isn't that hard, then they could sell them more places. The Frontier I assume is both left and right hand drive, terrible mistake by Nissan if it isn't.

It is tired, but it is still the #2 luxury brand in the world. They need the 8-series to bring some mojo back, and I think the X7 will help because people want crossovers and with a $100,000 crossover, it gives them another status symbol. If they can get this crossover lineup revamped they'll be fine. They still have a pretty big sedan business compared to most luxury makers.

By 2020 I'd expect V6s to only be in luxury/sports cars, full size crossover/SUV and full size trucks. Everyone will continue engine down sizing. And even then, full size trucks and crossovers will start going to 4-cylinder engines.

They could put at 250 hp turbo 4 in it and still keep the price under $30k. Even the premium trim BRZ is $27k

I don't think X7 sales will be bad at all. The X5 is a strong seller for them, and some people will want to upsize it. And in the market the Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX570 are not strong, BMW can beat the Navigator with ease, so then it gets down to Escalde and GLS and I think they can steal sales from both. Plus the X7 will top out pretty high and they can compete with the Range Rover LWB Autobiography. I think the X7 will outsell the 7-series sedan.

Smart move by BMW, crossovers are what sells. The V12 Will probably be a last hurrah, but I think it will also force Mercedes to do a Maybach GLS with a V12 also.

Porsche News: Porsche Accused of Using Illegal Software
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
I know some car makers cheated emissions, but it also opens the door for environmentalists to assume all car makers cheated. And once cars are all electric, then the emissions just got transferred to the tail pipe to the power plant. So people will complain about the pollution from the power plant. Until the power plants are all zero emission too.- 16 replies

Porsche News: Porsche Accused of Using Illegal Software
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
All fodder for the green movement to mandate electric cars. Even the car makers that don't cheat will get accused that they did cheat so they get pressured into making electric cars. once all the cars are running on electric, then people will complain about cheat software in power plants. And Porsche probably did cheat since VW and Audi did.- 16 replies

Honda News: Two Reasons As To Why the Civic Si Only Produces 205 HP
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Honda
The Si isn't the top model, so 205 hp is fine. They make a 300+ hp Civic type R. And a couple of Honda's trademarks are fuel economy and reliability, so it is good that they stick to their core values. And as I said they have a 300 hp version which way more than any Cruze, Elantra, Mazda 3, Corolla or Sentra.- 35 replies

Honda News: Honda Ponders Whether It Should Do A Odyssey Hybrid
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Honda
They should have a hybrid Odyssey, Pilot, CR-V, MDX, RDX, etc. Eventually it is all going to go that way and a 4 cylinder with an electric motor can move an Odyssey, especially a turbo 4 hydrid. None of these car makers are hitting 54.5 mpg with a 3.5 liter V6 as their volume engine.- 21 replies
