  1. How so? The C63 has 503 hp vs 465 hp in an ATS-V, the E63 has 603 hp vs 640 in the CTS-V, and the E63 is still a faster accelerating car due to AWD and better low end torque. The GLE63 has 267 hp more than an XT5, the GLS63 has 157 hp more than an Escalade. The G65 has 201 hp more than an Escalade. Yes they have a 362 hp C43 and 396 hp E43, both of which do 0-60 as fast as a Ford Mustang GT and quicker than a CTS V-sport. The C43 is the ATS 3.6 V6 competitor., one is just vastly quicker than the other. And we haven't even touched on the fact that Mercedes-AMG will be taking their hyper car to the Nurburgring next year and the record will be shattered. And I still say Mercedes needs to build more of them, they have around 1,000 people on the waiting list, but are only making 300, dumb move. Even it if takes 5 years, they should build 1000 of them.
  2. If you are going on "quality" the AMG GT R can beat anything GM has ever made, there is a more hardcore version of that car coming too, probably an AMG Black Series. But line up the cars, the E63 is faster than a CTS-V (or any Japanese sedan or any Audi or Alfa Romeo) the C63 is faster than the ATS-V. Saying the Corvette Z06 beats an E63 on a race track is sort of a pointless comparison when one is a mid-size sedan once is a sports car. And I don't think performance SUVs is to satisfy 1,000 people a year. 20 years ago, there was the M3, M5 and C36, E55, and that was it. Now there are probably 20+ performance sedans out there, because people wanted sedans and not coupes. Today's sedan is the 90s coupe, and it is getting replaces with the SUV. By 2025 there will be more GLE63 SUVs sold than M5's or E63's I bet. Porsche sells more SUVs than they do cars.
  3. Agreed, I hate SUVs and want a car, and I like used cars because the depreciation hit is gone. This isn't just for luxury brands, any car lease at any brand is probably taking a hit. What is a 3 year old Taurus worth? The $99 a month leases I have seen on the Cruze, they have to be taking a bath on those, a 2015 Cruze is probably worth $10k now.
  4. GM makes 4 performance cars: Camaro, Corvette, ATS-V and CTS-V. Zero performance SUVs, which is the #1 selling body style. I'll still take 37 performance models over 7-8 if you want to split down trim levels of the Camaro/Corvette. And that is still more than Ford/Lincoln, Acura/Honda, Nissan/Infiniti, they hardly have anything, 2 performance cars each. The ZL1 is quite the achievement though, it is faster than a Z06 Corvette at less money, plus you get a back seat, so it is a tremendous performance value. Not a luxury car though, but a great track performer, one of the best at any price.
  5. No, if the Bolt was a mid-size sedan or a small crossover it would sell 5 times better than a compact hatchback. I did wonder if the new Regal was on sale, but I doubt the new one sells any better than the old one did. I have yet to see a refreshed XTS on the road, but even still, that is a car that goes back to 2012, it has to have a lot of fleet sales to move over 2,000 a month. Unless the 900 unit drop on LaCrosse all went to XTS.
  6. I think a hybrid sports car makes a lot of sense. As far as batteries and technology not being readable, I just watched a Formula 1 car do 70 laps of a track on Sunday and that is indeed a hybrid.
  7. I think if the Bolt looked better it would sell better. If the Bolt looked like an Impala sedan or Equinox they would sell 10,000 a month. I wonder how many XTS sales are fleet sales? Maybe Lincoln is getting out of the livery business? Because Regal and Lacrosse are new and down 40% And the 3 Cadillac sedans newer than XTS are down near 40%. Yet the XTS was up big.
  8. They are on pace for 30,000 AMG’s sold this year which is tremendous I think. In a world of dumbed down cookie cutter front drive crossovers and 147 hp compact cars, it is good that some one is still pushing performance.
  9. Another strong month from FCA. Good thing Alfa was up 5000%
  10. Here is the Silverado engine line up now 285 hp @ 5300 rpm 305 lb-ft of torque @ 3900 rpm 355 hp @ 5600 rpm 383 lb-ft of torque @ 4100 rpm 420 hp @ 5600 rpm 460 lb-ft of torque @ 4100 rpm And a pair of engines in the CTS 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque And the Volvo S90 4 cylinder is 316 hp @ 5700 rpm and 295 lb-ft @ 2200 rpm. That engine could replace the Silverado V6, either of GM's own TTV6's can easily out power the 5.3 V8. That is why I think we are less than 7 years away from a 4-cylinder Silverado (and F150)
  11. The G wagon never cheap though, the Wranger used to be.
  12. Agreed, I think the Wrangler has gotten really expensive, and they used to be pretty cheap. In today's dollars maybe not $16k, but like 20k, I bet the 2018 model starts at $25k and quickly gets over $30,000.
  13. Sooner than that, I expect a 4 cylinder in a Silverado around 2025. But that being said, might as well sell a supercharged V8 now while you can get money for it. They sell so many silverados, I am sure you can find 5,000 people a year to pay an extra $10k for a supercharged SS truck.
  14. Maserati is cutting production of the Levante due to poor sales, so not sure how much adding another crossover helps. Problem with FCA is all their brands are un-desireable except for Jeep and Alfa Romeo.
  15. Nissan sells the Frontier/Navara world wide already, so they aren't missing out on the mid-size market. They would just be adding a bigger truck.
  16. A plug in hybrid Titan would make a lot of sense. They could use a smaller engine to beat displacement taxes and if they had power outlets in the bed then you could plug power tools right into the truck if at a job site with no electricity. I think that would help the global appeal.
  17. If they make $300 profit on a Dodge and $15,000 per Maserati then yes.
  18. Dodges don't have profit margin, but a Maserati does. Maserati's aren't good cars, but that makes me think it can't cost that much to build them, and they are selling them for $100k. Has to be a big margin on them.
  19. Cars with punctuation marks in them are always good. $27k seems like a lot but I guess not if it is loaded up and it is probably quicker than most small crossovers with that turbo. This is also the successor to Pontiac Excitement!
  20. Ads don’t bother me I can just scroll past them. If adding coupons helps make the site money I say do it. What ever makes the site money I am fine with, as I frequent this automotive site more than any other.
  21. Almost anyone would buy Jeep. Ram trucks would only appeal to someone like Hyundai or maybe Nissan that wants more American market truck sales, probably more so Nissan because they can co-develop the pickups and work vans and sell them all as Ram brand. Alfa Romeo could have value to Ford, Mazda, Hyundai, Honda, really anyone that needs a luxury brand. I don't think Maserati, Dodge, and Chrysler have any value to anyone.
  22. Before I even read the story I thought jokingly why not make it a crossover like the Mitsubishi Eclipse? And sure enough it seems like that is on the table. One day Ford will make the Mustang a crossover to jump start sales...
  23. 2 products to compete with the GLA? Seems unnecessary, and the GLA has that same stupid squashed down roof, which is the worst styling element of the GLA, if they raised the roof 2 inches it would make the car look so much better.
  24. I am no FCA fan, but to answer the question, the Jeep Renegade has sold well and sells globally, and the Alfa Romeo Guilia can beat the CTS-V around the Nurburgring, so they did make one tremendous performance sedan, although it doesn't sell. The only value in FCA is in splitting it to pieces, because half the pieces in the pie are worthless.
  25. Front wheel drive sucks for anything over 250 or so horsepower because you get torque steer and they pull. As weight goes up the fwd penalty gets worse too because you get that heavy front end with lackluster steering response and tendency to understeer. On a 3,000 lb compact car with 185 hp, fwd vs rwd won't matter much. On a 400 hp, 4,000 lb car it is night and day.
