  1. These tax credits are going to expire in a few years, by 2020 most car makers will have used up their 200,000 units anyway. So it doesn't really matter too much if they keep it in or out. Even if they get this tax bill passed, it don't know if it would even take effect next year, the government does nothing fast.
  2. That makes a lot of sense, but a lot have problems packaging an inline six on a front wheel drive car, I seem to remember the early Volvo S80s using a 2.9 liter inline six on a front driver, but other than that I can't think of any. And most car companies just want to have an engine they can use in front and rear drive. So the big guys like Ford, Toyota and GM won't go there. But there is no reason to make everything front drive either, you could build the Malibu or Camry on a rear drive platform and offer all wheel drive, but also that segment of car is dumping V6s anyway, so if you only need a six for a full size car or truck or SUV then it makes sense to go inline.
  3. The 4 cylinder is getting a bump too, rumor is 299 hp, it will be more than competitive among the C-class and GLC competition, and enough for a base E-class for the seniors that don't care about HP. The new 6 will be the base engine for a GLS and S-class or SL class. The new six is rumored for 430ish hp that is plenty for mid-level E-class or base level S-class. And price of a Mercedes doesn't matter, they are priced higher than every competitor and outsell them all.
  4. Not only 400 hp, it will make more than that. And cost too, this is way cheaper than a plug in hybrid. This engine isn’t made to compete with hybrids this is made to compete with the 535i, the GM 3.6 twin turbo, whatever Audi V6 they are using this week. The impressive thing is this is their regular 6 cylinder, no doubt with 2 levels of tune for use in a GLS450 and E53 for example. And Mercedes doesn’t red a replacement for the V8 because they offer more V8 models than any other manufacturer. Even the GLC has a V8
  5. It is a nice update, more leg and hip room, the new G-wagon is 5 inches longer, but that still makes it barely larger than a GLE or X5 and cut 350 lbs of weight, so all pluses there. The interior looks much better than before, current decade styling and they kept the classic grab bar and locking diff switches, so the original DNA is still there. This will probably be the #1 selling car in Beverly Hills and Dubai in 2018.
  6. It isn't anymore AMG than they have now, because the E43 and GLE43 type cars will be replaced with the E53 and GLE53. This is exciting news because the 362-396 hp turbo V6 is being replaced buy a 400+ inline six hybrid. More power, more gas mileage, smoother engine, that is a big win. Will be curious if they replace the C43 with a C53, or if the 53's are only on mid-size cars. Because they can't do an S53, the S560 is still more powerful than it.
  7. Problem is anything Toyota makes with a base price of $50k or up is a sales disaster because at the end of the day these are just fancy Toyotas. People will pay $40k for an Avalon350 errr ES350 or $359 a month for an IS250 lease but the GX, GS, LX, LS, LC are massive duds.
  8. Really the 911 makes perfect sense for a hybrid, you can stick a battery and motor under the hood up front since there is no engine there. And maybe downsize the Flat 6 in back to save some weight, or you save it by not running a drive shaft from the back to the front wheels.
  9. They are, the Lexus UX goes on sale in 2018.
  10. It does cost too much, and looks like yesterday's Nissan Juke which doesn't help, and these things have like an 11 second 0-60 time which can't be too fun to drive. So there isn't much going for the CH-R, plus the name is forgettable, and a RAV4 is like $3k more which in dealership speak is "only another $29 per month"
  11. Build 1 out of 3? Build all 3! Toyota should build 50 new crossovers to appease the masses.
  12. I wonder how much more cost would be involved with a full carbon fiber bed compared to steel or aluminum beds used in trucks now. A carbon fiber bed would be stronger than a steel one, but probably crazy expensive.
  13. Agreed. The fuel economy or CO2 isn’t the problem. Electric is going to take over, no reason to spend money on a dying power train. They have plans for a V8 hybrid with 800 hp, no need for a V12.
  14. I tend to always agree with Moers, he has made AMG what it is today. But an A35 seems like a dumb idea, they should do an A250 and A300 as it would be the same 4 banger in a C300/E300. (Or C350/E350) And the V12 will be pointless in about 5 years but might as well offer it for this generation. Electric will take over, hybrid up that V8.
  15. If GM is giving 20% off an Envision, I gotta imagine 40% off deals are coming to the CTS.
  16. The XT5 is geared toward a Lincoln MKX or Lexus RX and that is the problem. That is like making the CTS an Acura TLX or Lincoln MKZ competitor. The sell a good number of XT5's because they are cheap, and because it is the only thing people walking into Cadillac dealerships buy, they sold like 600 CTS's last month.
  17. Yep and the new platform goes into use next year, the base GLE is said to weigh under 4,000 lbs in base trim which would be huge because that thing is obese now. And not a car platform but the GLE63 is already on the Nurburgring...
  18. Cadillac already has 2 rear drive platforms, neither of which are generating any sedan sales. Total waste to not use those for SUVs. And I think there are a lot of enthusiasts or buyers that prioritize "sport" in their sport utility vehicle, because BMW, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Jaguar/Land Rover, Porsche, Bentley and even Infiniti and Audi are selling them and now Lamborghini is in the game, and Ferrari is going to be next. And somewhere in VW headquarters they are swimming in a Scrooge McDuck style money bin with all the cash coming from the Cayenne, Bentayga and the Urus.
  19. The E-class is on the MRA platform, as is the s-class. MHA platform is GLE and GLS only, the G-wagon is body on frame, with all new chassis for 2018. And I am pretty sure Cadillac fans would go nuts if there was a CTS-V crossover, or a Corvette ZR-1 powered mid-size crossover with a carbon fiber roof.
  20. Cadillac needs only 1 front drive crossover, and that would be an Equinox clone at $34k because at that size and price you aren’t putting more than 270 hp in it and you aren’t going for an enthusiast buyer either. And they don’t need an Encore size mini crossover because they have GMC and Buick already in the $25-40k range. Then I agree, ATS-L, CTS, CT6 based SUVs that can go after Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Range Rover, Maserati, etc. All those guys are running near 500 hp on a rear drive chassis. Real quick on the Corvette brand idea, problem is Chevy dealers won’t give the Corvette up and the Corvette Brand would have to be a combo with Cadillac dealers for service and dealership amenity reasons. I think a Corvette brand could work, but it won’t happen. But if you all want a “Corvette” sedan, crossover, mid engine hyper car, and Panamera style hatchback why don’t they build all that under Cadillac?
  21. Why is that Cadillac’s primary competition? Mercedes and BMW’s mid size SUVs offer a 600 hp V8 for $100,000. Cadillac needs to aim higher. And their sedan business is dead in the water, if they don’t do something soon with SUVs the same will happen there too. Not sure but Mercedes and BMW charge about $20k more for their midsize SUV than Cadillac or Lexus do for theirs. I bet Cadillac wished they could get $100k for an XT5 and pocket $15k of profit on it.
  22. The G-wagon is above the Escalade and the problem with the Escalade is at the end of the day it is on a pick up truck frame and doesn’t have a glass panoramic roof like every other top luxury suv, it is super heavy, I think it has a solid rear axel, it has a lot of platform compromises. What they need is an Omega platform SUV with CTS-V suspension and CT6 4 wheel steering and some sort of 500-600 hp V8 option. Electrictified anything is welcome too.
  23. Drew is correct, I mean more expensive than an Escalade not bigger. You can run a mid-size SUV over $100k easily.
