  1. When you think Cadillac you think Escalade, it has the best reputation of any product they have which is why it is a class leader in sales and the sedans they make are dead in the water. No image on those sedans. To Cmicasa’s point, yes there should be a CT6-V already and I think they held back on the interior, they should have gone way more upscale with it. $128k for a top end sedan is still too low, unless that is before the options list gets it over $150k. As far as the G-Wagen goes, the new one looks identical with LED headlights, and they fixed all the technology and ergonomic issues that resulted from a 1979 platform. The sales will continue to rise
  2. I had another thought, the Escalade is the ultimate Cadillac and their flagship product, that helps it sell. The GLS isn’t Mercedes top SUV and the S-class is their flagship, so if you want the ultimate Mercedes, you aren’t buying a GLS.
  3. I am saying that a lot of Americans like big trucks, whether it be pickups, Tahoes or Expeditions. I suspect a lot of Escalade buyers come from truck buyers more so than they come from people trading in a CTS or XTS or any other sedan. And those American truck buyers aren’t likely to buy an import. Plus Navigator sales have dropped a lot since 2010ish which probably helped the Escalade too. The GL has had years when it outsold the Escalade, and there is a new model coming later this year, I think they can outsell the Escalade with it. But as I have said many times, the Escalade is executed and marketed really well, it is the one vehicle Cadillac gets right and it is a bit of an icon. I also think for 15 or so years the Escalade was the biggest most expensive SUV so it was a status symbol, but now that Bentley, Rolls, Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari soon, are getting in the SUV game that is over. Which is why Cadillac needs an SUV above the Escalade but that would jack up their stupid naming system.
  4. They should just build it here so they can sell it here. They could build something else in Germany and ship it here if they need factory space here. Also, Chicken tax is the dumbest thing ever.
  5. The GLS starts cheaper than the Escalade but goes up higher than the Escalade. There is a vehicle above GLS that could take sales from it (which is a good thing) but I think mostly the Escalade has been in the USA longer and Americans love pickups and Tahoe’s so it has a good feeder base of buyers.
  6. It isn’t about chasing volume but building better product to still have sales without having to give huge discounts to clear dealer lots. The XT5 was down, (Acura and Lincoln SUVs down too) the Q5 and GLC were up and closing in the XT5 sales volume. These front drive crossovers are dripping just like the front drive luxury sedans did, the rear drive performance crossovers are going to take over in time.
  7. CT6 should have been nicer and more powerful, but even as it stands is is about 2/3 the price of an Escalade, that is why it should outsell it or sell even at least. CT6 does not have sales figures that rival the German sedan of equal price, CT6 is priced like a 5-Series or E-class both of which topped 5,000 units last month.
  8. Probably does get cross shopped, which is why people aren’t buying it unless they are just looking for the value buy. The worst thing that can happen for Lexus or Audi is to have someone drive an A8 or LS then go drive an S-class. That is a no contest.
  9. Problem: people are moving away from sedans for crossovers with higher seating position and more cargo space. Solution: make sedan lower with sloping roofline and less passenger and cargo space. Good luck with that.
  10. S-class had a refresh this year and sales dropped in summer and they didn’t have the V6 model until a couple months ago. No worries on its volume especially with the profit margin of that car. SLC needs to die, SL will never die, I think they should retro style it like they do with the G-wagon and give it the 1954 300SL look.
  11. CT6 is also priced like a 5-Series. Compare sales of those two. CT6 should be outselling the Escalade based on its price point.
  12. I can’t believe they still sell the MKT. That thing needs to die. I am surprised they are still selling over 1,000 Continentals a month, unless 50% are fleet orders.
  13. They sold a ridiculous amount of Silverados, but GM’s car business is dead in the water especially at Cadillac and Buick. I for one dislike crossovers, I wouldn’t drive one if it was given to me for free so 80% of GM’s lineup is boring to me.
  14. Best sales month ever. They said sedan sales were dead but the E-class and S-class were on fire. Lexus sold 360 LS’s vs over 2,100 S-class and the Lexus IS $20,000 cheaper. Incredible! @dfelt they are cancelling the SLC at the end of its model run around 2019. Everything else lives on!
  15. A good month for BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Terrible month for Japanese and American luxury brands.
  16. I can’t believe they still make the Sequoia and Land Cruiser, I feel like the last major update to those was in 2005. Time to close up shop on the Lexus GS and LS, those 2 are in the tank and the LS is a new model and it is down 50%! I guess that predator grille is scaring people away.
  17. 80% of Buick sales and 78% of GM sales are crossovers/trucks, is that a good thing or bad thing?
  18. Audi needs this, their cars look super similar. I liked when Mercedes made the E-class look different than the S-class, and the C-class had those junior S-class styling cues, seemed to work well for them, but the C, E, S classes are all selling well so the current theme works too.
  19. The Jeep will be cheaper for sure, I imagine used Lincoln SUVs are dirt cheap too. Obviously a Mercedes or Porsche is going to be at the top end of the price spectrum, they cost the most new and have good resale.
  20. 2014 ML550 for $34k at North Coast Auto mall in Ohio, only 30,000 miles. 443 lb-ft of torque, 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. I was looking at Porsche Cayenne's, hard to find any under $50k that aren't over 5 years old, or 2014 with the base 300 hp V6. You'd have to really hunt for a Hybrid or V8 Cayenne under $50k.
  21. True, I haven't looked to see what GLE400s are out there. I have a friend with a GLE450 coupe that is pretty quick and has easy torque and the 9-speed. I have driven the GLE350 with the naturally aspirated V6, it is fine for daily driving, I imagine it is similar to a Pentastar Grand Cherokee. The downside to the GLE350 is you live in the 3-4,000 rpm range a lot when accelerating, where as with my car I can be at 2,000 rpm with the V8 torque. I bet there are ML550's out there getting cheap and all V8 Mercedes have Airmatic. I don't know anything about the Porsche Air suspension, Mercedes uses Bilstien air springs, same ones are used on the BMW 7-series and Range Rover. I had to have my air springs replaced last month, I have 97,000 miles on my car, 10 years old, it varies how long they last. One was totally shot, and the 2 rear were leaking, they replaced all 4 and it drives like it just rolled off the factory, it is unbelievable how good the ride is in that I have hit expansion joints on a bridge and heard it, but couldn't feel it. The dealer only charged for parts on just the front and took $200 off, charged labor on front and rear and then took 10% off the whole bill at the end.
  22. Maybe the new XJ will be a 7 seat SUV.
  23. Jeep is a perennial bottom dweller in every reliability study, only Fiat consistently ranks lower and Jeep is often worse than Land Rover and Mitsubishi, and Dodge and Chrysler are down there too every year since they share so many parts with Jeep. I would look at a Porsche Cayenne used also, Porsche is known for their quality and reliability and they have great resale value too.
  24. Hopefully it isn’t a 4-door coupe. Maybe it will light up with neon circles like a vehicle from Tron.
  25. So why not get a certified used GLE400 at the same money which has a 700 lb tongue weight, 7,000 lb tow rating, does 0-60 a full second faster than the Hemi Grand Cherokee and gets better gas mileage. And we know where Jeep ranks on all the reliability charts.
