  1. Yeah the GM ignition switch alone was 30 million cars and caused 124 deaths. If we are going to buy cars based on lowest % recalls, get ready to buy a whole lot of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz because they rank 1-2 in lowest recall percentage from 1985-2016. https://clark.com/cars/automaker-best-worst-recall-history-rate/ Forbes Recall story And here is a 2014 Forbes story that doesn't include Porsche data for some reason that looks back to cars registered since 1980 and Mercedes is #1. Forbes article Best or Nothing as always.
  2. I don't get why they didn't put the plug in hybrid system on the V8. This is pointless.
  3. Not that I am a big fan of total volume of an irregular shaped cabin which could have variable usable space but: EPA website says the C43 has 90 cubic feet of room vs the ATS's 91 (with a 3 cu ft larger trunk in the C-class) E-class: 98 cubic feet CTS: 97 cubic feet S-class: 112 cubic feet CT6: 110 cubic feet
  4. If I had the money to get an E-class or S-class convertible, I think it is the color you have to buy, you gotta go all in, just like if you buy a Rolls Phantom Drophead you need the stainless steel hood and white leather and seashell pearl trim.
  5. You can get open pore wood on every Mercedes I think. I haven’t looked at the color pallet for the C43, but the E-class convertible has a champagne beige and yacht blue interior that you can pair up with some flowing lines wood to full on Monaco motif. And while we are making ATS-V comparisons, there is a C63 than can outdo the ATS-V if all out performance is the goal, but this C43 gives you like 90% of the C63 and most people areas going to a track to use that last 10% anyway, so this is a nice happy medium. Plus this comes in convertible, the ATS, Giulia, XE and IS do not.
  6. I thought it already had the 9-speed but maybe not, there seems to be rhyme or reason as to when they switch cars from the 7 to the 9. I think Car and Driver clocked the old C43 at 4.3 seconds 0-60, so the 4.6 is probably conservative, the E43 can do it in 4.3 and has to pull more weight.
  7. Well a Subaru was my first choice, because they are awd and safe and more reliable than a Volvo.
  8. More HP is always good. This car still has the best interior in the segment.
  9. $13,000 for wheels that save 25 lbs is asinine even buy Porsche options list standards. I don't get why you wouldn't just buy a 911 Turbo over this, because the Turbo is faster. And if you have crazy money to buy a track car get a GT2 RS. Or save $40,000 and get a GT3 that has 20 less hp than an RS.
  10. I don't want a Volvo, but it is better than a Focus or Cruze or Volt. The Civic isn't a bad idea, those are reliable.
  11. I still like a used Volvo, good sturdy, safe transportation, and TURBOCHARGED 5-cylinder. The sort of EXCITEMENT Pontiac was missing.
  12. Focus or Cruze will be the cheap options for an under $10k, under 50k mile car. There isn't much at that price unless it is an 8 year old car or an economy car. When you have Terrains and Rav4's going for $35k and demand for SUVs, it is like 8 years before they get cheap.
  13. My point was more that Mercedes electric SUV looks like an SUV and not whatever the Jag is supposed to look like.
  14. As I said the inline six would be preferred, but there are S-class buyers that are fleet or 75+ years old and for either group a 0-60 of 5.4 seconds is enough, and it gets 28 mpg highway which is pretty good for it's size. And when Lexus, Audi, BMW and Jaguar all start in the $70s in this segment, the S450 at $89,900 isn't really going down stream. That is the beauty of Mercedes, they give engine choice, most of their cars have 3 or 4 engines. And they did trademark S73, while the S63 is already the fastest car in the segment, they seem to feel the need to top themselves.
  15. Coupes do have high insurance. Volvos however do not, because they are 5 star safety rated and driven by geography teachers in tweed blazers and architects named Lionel.
  16. Volvo S60's are cheap and TURBOCHARGED!!! I really like the first one in Navy with the 2-tone interior 2012 S60 2012 S60 gray
  17. Perhaps a 2012 CTS luxury package AWD, comes in at $11,000 CTS
  18. What about SUVs? Or are we sticking with sedans due to the lower cost and higher mpg. And what about something like a Ford Mustang, or is RWD coupe a no go?
  19. So back to the car choices, if not the highly desirable C300 sport package that I found, the choices are: Chrysler 200 2011ish Chevy Volt 2013is Buick Verano 2015ish Chevy Sonic What else?
  20. Additions SUVs are needed for a brand that only has 2 or 3. Mercedes is about to have 6 and 2 of those have a coupe variant on top of that, plus they make a station wagon. I think they are covered. I for a couple years have said they should have a V6 Sclass (although inline six would be better that the Euro model has) because the A8, 7-series and XJ has 6 cylinder models are are like $20,000 cheaper than the S-class. And that is probably the only way those cars sell, with the V6 S-class they can take away whatever sales the 7-series and A8 have left.
  21. Yep, that is enough for a GLC or Q5 or X3 with 1 option package.
  22. I think it makes sense to move it. Years ago, like in the 60s or 70s when auto makers showed the new models in this show, and then production units always hit dealers in the fall, it kind of made sense. But now new vehicles hit dealers at all times of the year. And buyers don't have to go to the big Auto shows in winter/spring to figure out what they will buy in summer/fall. They can see it all on the internet and do all the research.
  23. Jaguar’s worst nightmare with this car is this, which actually looks like an SUV and does impressive drifting
  24. They have a new GLA, GLB, GLE, GLS coming for 2019, that is 4 new SUVs. Problem solved. S-class got a refresh and a new V6 model at $89k to boost sales.
  25. C&G statement of the year! I agree on the iPace design, it looks like the roof is to squashed and the back window too sloped. So it doesn't have that crossover shape people want. Price is still the key, I think $60k range is where they need to start because a GLC43 Coupe and X4 M40i are $60k to start with similar size and performance, a Macan GTS is $68k. If Jaguar goes $75-90k they are over shooting the market.
