They should put a Corvette ZR1 engine in the Suburban to challenge the future Demon Grand Wagoneer full size 800 hp Jeep. And it should come with 2nd and 3rd row seat delete to save weight.

California paid $405 billion in taxes to the federal government in 2015, they are what drives the federal government, only 2 other states even topped $200 million (Texas and NY). And besides the economic influence, CARB was around before EPA, so CARB can do what ever it wants, CA won't change their rules, and in court California will beat the EPA. I think we should get rid of CAFE all together and raise federal gas taxes another 25-50 cents, and put that money into the crumbling roads we have.

What I don't understand is how California is the 6th largest economy in the world and they don't have coal mines and shale oil fracking, and they have high taxes, high regulation on pollution and guns, and legalized marijuna. According to Fox News low taxes, fossil fuels and low regulation is the way to grow an economy. ? Worked wonders for West Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. But California will win this lawsuit because of CARB and the fact that these rules were previously agreed to by auto makers. And it wouldn't surprise me if California come 2030 bans sale of gasoline cars all together and then automakers have no choice but to go EV, because you can't ignore 40 million people in the richest state in the country.

Jeep Grand Commander is a Three-Row SUV for China : Comments
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Beijing Motor Show
They could make a different vehicle for this market, the Durango is a 3 row SUV, they can make a Wagoneer out of that, and make some Escalade or Navigator competitor for a Grand Wagoneer.- 23 replies

Jeep Grand Commander is a Three-Row SUV for China : Comments
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Beijing Motor Show
Well the Renegade and Compass are built on this platform: And the Cherokee is built on this platform: So if they could make that work, I am sure they can find a platform out of the FCA parts in that can produce a 7 passenger SUV for $35k that is as good off road as a Cherokee.- 23 replies

Jeep Grand Commander is a Three-Row SUV for China : Comments
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Beijing Motor Show
No I am not, it could be a fwd or rwd platform it just has to have 3 rows and interior like a base Grand Cherokee or higher trim Cherokee. The Renegade, Compass and Cherokee are on fwd car platforms so I don’t see what the difference is on platform when that is what they do now.- 23 replies

The rest of the line is, but the GLE/GLS came out in 2011 or 2012, they are by far the oldest things in Merc's line up, the GLE still uses the 3.5 V6 that the E-class dumped 2-3 years ago and they are also to heavy. They are moving to an all new platform.

Jeep Grand Commander is a Three-Row SUV for China : Comments
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Beijing Motor Show
Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn't have a 3rd row, so it is already off the radar of about 500,000 buyers or more. VW, Subaru, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, GMC, Ford, Chevy, Buick all make a 3 row SUV. Jeep does not. What happens when the Chrysler brand dies and Dodge might also? And they don't sell Chrysler and Dodge in international markets or at least not in any measurable volume.- 23 replies

Maybe it will have a 500 mile EV range with 1,000 lb-ft of torque. Cost and weight aren't really issues. But neither is range on a Mulsanne as most of these people have a private jet, they aren't driving far.

I think they should do a Comander or Wagoneer 3 row SUV that is like a Traverse/Explorer competitor, that doesn't matter if it is it front drive the a turbo 4. But they should also have a Grand Wagoneer that is like a 3-row more luxurious version of the Grand Cherokee. More like a Yukon Denali competitor on the latter.- 23 replies

Instead of these car companies worrying about how to have nicer showrooms or facilities why don’t they worry about figuring a way for people to buy a car in less than 5 hours? And as far as service goes for Genesis, just have a drop off location, give people a loaner car for the day and call/text them when their car is done and they come pick it up. That is no brainer then what the service area looks like doesn’t matter. These car companies over think things.

If there was ever a poster child for what should be electric it is the Mulsanne. This thing is made for all electric powertrain with 800 lb-ft of low end torque that can move around with no noise.

Terrible month for them, how do you have crossovers down 30-50% ??? How can't they sell Titans? I think they didn't do a good enough job on that truck, especially with the dated powertrains.

They need that new GLE/GLS soon, the age is showing on those two. C-class has a refresh coming this summer, so I don't think much cause for worry there.

All Ford's SUVs are down. Now that they have given up on cars, they better hope those SUVs sell because down 16%, down 19% for the 2 hottest segments in Flex and Edge is pretty bad.

VW News: Volkswagen Will Add A Mild-Hybrid System to Next-Gen Golf
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
The S-class in Europe has the 48 Volt in-line 6 on sale already, we got the old engine here and the CLS is on sale already in Europe with it too. So we will have it soon, the E53 is coming this fall to replace the already best in class E43. Good calculation on the fuel economy numbers, even 2 mpg is a nice little boost on a car.- 3 replies

Lincoln News: Lincoln: We're Still Committed to Cars
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
I predict the "all new" Zephyr Luxury Cross Tourer based on the Focus Active Crossfit thing. MKZ is so dead, they might keep the Continental around because of China, but that platform will get even more dated and sales will dwindle and then they'll kill it anyway.- 43 replies

2019 Lexus ES Grows In Size, Adds F-Sport : Comments
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Lexus
Those vehicles are all good examples of how the turbo didn’t help turn it around. I still feel like a Lexus should have something better than what you get in the Camry but I will concede the argument because the people that buy an ES are clueless probably as to what is under the hood. -
2019 Lexus ES Grows In Size, Adds F-Sport : Comments
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Lexus
Lexus ES sales were down 10.4% in 2015, down 10.5% in 2016, down 11.8% in 2017 and down 14.9% YTD 2018. Things are surely working for them with 4 consecutive years of double digit declines (in a growing luxury market no less).
