  1. Limit of 112 mph sounds boring. I get that you'd almost never see triple digit speed on public roads outside of an autobahn type setting but still. I also suspect there are very few accidents where speeding is the cause, 90% of the time it is people not paying attention. You probably see as many accidents in 25 mph zones as you do on the autobahn with people doing 125.
  2. The A-class and new GLE better sell, because those numbers suck. I expect the A-class and GLE will sell well though, and they have a refresh GLC and new CLA coming later in the year.
  3. I imagine every brand will have a down year, that 7 year run of increases is over.
  4. I think it is a nice refresh, it wasn’t stale before so some engine and styling tweaks are good to keep it fresh. MBUX is pretty cool. The important thing overall is all new G-Class for 2019, new GLE is in dealer’s now, refreshed GLC coming soon, and all new GLS should hit in the fall/winter and new GLA and GLB coming in 2020. That is 5 new and 1 refreshed SUV over 2 years for all these dopes they buy SUVs to never go off road in.
  5. Good to see the $35k model is here. The Standard Plus seems like a better deal, I could see big demand for those.
  6. I am not sold on the front end styling, from any other side I prefer it to the out going, but the front I think doesn't look as good. I am not an SUV person though. I like that the I-6 is available in a lot of vehicles, and there are plenty of AMG 53's to pick from.
  7. Not a fan of the Pansmerica grille but otherwise looks like a strong contender.
  8. Will Peugeot be bringing this? If so I am all for it.
  9. What is better, Purgot or Citroen? I think they’ll sell okay because people will want an import or something different.
  10. That is a diesel with 297 lb-ft of torque. But also sold in non-American markets where that sort of power is common. If they did an American X-class it would have more power. And perhaps X-class generation 1 is a testing ground to then do generation 2 on their own without Nissan/Renault and expand to the USA. The A-class started as dopey hatchback in Europe, how it is a nice looking little sedan.
  11. Right, but why is the base engine so bad. The Tacoma isn't a lightweight, they start at 4,000 lbs, if you have payload or towing, that is even more. Toyota could put a turbo 4 as the base with 220 hp and a 310 hp V6 optional. Or at least use the 2.5 liter four form the Camry that makes 200 hp, rather than some 159 hp unit from forever ago. Thats 120 hp per liter, vs the Tacoma that makes only 64 hp per liter.
  12. A 159 hp 2.5 liter engine is better?
  13. For me it would not be an every day car but more of a bargain used car in the Jeremy Clarkson road trip style. I like the 2007 era Jaguar XJR and XK, mid 90s Riviera, 2001 STS or Pontiac Aztek. If I were on a car show needing a car to like that was sort of a joke too, it would be one of those.
  14. Yet Cadillac is launching a new TT V8 this year, and the mid-engine Corvette which is a year or 2 away will have a V8. The V8 still has a future. And Mercedes V8 is under the top displacement tax tier in China, where as none of GM's are because they refuse to downsize, same goes with Ford and FCA. The S550 went from a 5.5 liter engine in 2007 to 4.7 liter in 2012 and 4.0 liter in 2014, the S63 went from 6.2 liters in 2008 to 5.5 liter in 2012 and 4.0 liter in 2014. That is a pretty aggressive downsizing plan.
  15. They have never beat Mercedes. Mercedes beat them in 1954 and 1955 then Mercedes left racing. Ferrari hasn't won an F1 championship since 2008, Mercedes returned as part owner of Braun supplying the engine in 2009 (and won the championship), before launching their own team in 2010. Ferrari better enjoy the old trophies on the shelf because it could be a long time before they get any more.
  16. If a V6 is better, why don't the Escalade and Corvette have a V6? Mercedes inline 6 is a mild hybrid, the 4 and V8 will be soon I imagine. I the TT V8 will be a plug-in hybrid for AMG cars to get over 800 hp. They make a full hybrid C-class and GLC yet I have never seen one. So I think mild hybrid makes sense on gas cars for now. They also make a 6-cylinder S-class now, so if that is the future, they already have that covered.
  17. Who won Formula 1 the past 5 years? Because Ferrari was 2nd place all those years. They did make an SL73 with a 7.3 liter V12 in the 90s, limited edition sort of car. So they have used 73 before, I imagine since the S73 will be more powerful than S65 was, that is the thinking. Why they ever started to do AMG with 2 numbers when regular cars have 3, who knows.
  18. A V8 plus electric motors is better than a V6 with electric motors. And they have a mild hybrid I-6 now. And they are making a full size EV sedan to sell along side the S-class. So all bases covered. $250k for a V12, but the prestige will remain via cars like AMG One, and the S73. That V12 helped make Mercedes the prestige brand for 30 years, but the next 10 will be hybrid power, then probably all EV after that.
  19. I imagine 2020 or 2021 will be the final Maybach V12. A new S-class is coming in 2021 and why bother making the car capable of fitting a V12 at this point. They have shown a plug in hybrid bi-turbo V8, that seems like the path forward and S73 is already trademarked.
  20. VW builds the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q8, Macan, Cayenne, Bentayga and Urus off one platform I think. That is some ridiculous scalability right there.
  21. Makes sense, they can probably build enough 2020 model year CT6 in the fall to last them all of calendar 2020. Impala probably has enough volume and enough fleet buyers that likewise they can build enough to last calendar 2020 before they run out. Then it staggers the sedan deaths over a couple years rather than all at once.
  22. Uber and Lyft are profitable business models if they don’t have drivers and can deploy autonomous cars to do all the work. But they need those cars, BMW and Mercedes might be able to beat them to the punch. Even if not, there isn’t a lot of profit margin in car manufacturing but there is a lot of profit in selling rides or charging a monthly fee for rides. Car makers know this, that is why they are all chasing it.
  23. Maybe they will make their own app that can interface with the others. Or buy those 5 and merge them.
  24. The unholy alliance! Probably will be the best car share autonomous vehicle service ever though.
