Chevrolet News:Spying: Chevrolet Malibu Gets Some Drastic Changes
Cory Wolfe replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
We initially thought it was a Buick... But they did a rather poor job hiding the bow-ties on the wheel caps. You can see right through that tape and the mesh covering the grill, as well. Also, It's worth mentioning that in the test group or 4 or 5 prototypes, there were also a few cars for bench-marking: A current Malibu, Fusion, and a Camry. -
That Cruze keeps surprising me. As it ages, the sales keep rising. Must be those rental sales. I'm also fairly surprised the ATS isn't selling better than it is.

I cannot understand how Toyota can manage to move so many piles of $h!. Some are understandable, others like the Camry... The only explanation includes "firesale" and "rental whoring".

Chevrolet News:Spying: Chevrolet Cruze, Take 2

As far as that car... It's another foreign market car from what I understand. The NA market Cruze is supposed to be more differentiated than that. -

Thanks for the well wishes, guys! And Chrysler Tech Center... and Ford Tech Center... and GM Tech Center... lol Lots of photography to do here in Michigan, both automotive and otherwise: Congratulations on the move, and best of luck! What I do in my free time is strictly confidential! Here are the most exciting things I've seen while exploring with my free time... Also, this past week's work wasn't nearly as fun as the week before.

I really don't understand where Acura is trying to go with this car. So, they combined the TL and TSX, which is appropriate considering the overlap. That's all fine and dandy, but where is the substance? It's still a flashy Accord, but now somehow is more of a driver's car. Yes, it may have a trick AWD system, but they've effectively alienated any real driving enthusiasts by eliminating the choice of a manual transmission. I'm sure someone will argue that the new 8-speed dual clutch automatic is quicker, more efficient, and gives you more performance to play with; You know, better in every way. The competition and I will respectfully disagree. Beyond that is what are two essentially carryover engines with direct-injection added. As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's not a bad thing, not necessarily a good thing either. I suppose it depends on your preference for engineering advancement. Now, finally, we have the styling to talk about. Perhaps it's the purest expression of Acura's new design language, but it's far from expressive. It's, well... placid. It's just so damn soft and not very exciting. A very flashy Accord that will compete with... the exact opposite of what Acura wants, I imagine.

I think it's a pretty substantial improvement over the outgoing model, especially considering this is just a mid-cycle refresh. It's no longer a completely underwhelming looking car. Unfortunately, it's not all new and while they claim the interior has been upgraded, it's marginal at best. The interior is the current car's biggest Achilles heel in my opinion. The materials and build quality were absolutely horrid. From what I can see, not much has changed. Perhaps I'll be proven wrong, but...

Long story, short... I've moved. Anyone who follows me on Facebook will know, but I forgot to update everyone else here. No longer stuck in rural Pennsylvania, I'm now in Metro-Detroit, in the Novi/Wixom/Walled Lake area. Essentially, I'll be doing some freelance photography and I have a couple "jobs" lined up. After being here a week, I have to say that I should have moved here a long time ago. Beyond the added opportunities, there's simply so many things to do, places to go, and everything is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. In addition to that, my apartment complex has a great view and close to everything I like. Actually, no... The nearest Sheetz is 2.5 hours away, unfortunately. Here's a panorama of the view from my apartment.

2013 Ford Fusion 2.5 SE 1.6 Ecoboost 6MT
Cory Wolfe replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
My problem with this car remains with the engine/transmission choices. I love the styling, ride, and handling of the Fusion. Even the somewhat shoddy build quality of the interior I could deal with as the materials themselves are pretty nice. But, as the range-topping engine, the 2.0 turbo is completely underpowered and the 6AT just exaggerates that. It felt more like an entry level engine than an uplevel engine. With a manual transmission, I feel like this engine would come alive, but Ford doesn't offer it. As such, you are stuck with the even more underpowered 1.6 turbo and you will lose a drag race against a Kia Rio. Ford could have really shaken up the midsize segment with engine/transmission combinations that don't absolutely suck. -
Chevrolet News:Spying: Hello Next-Generation Chevrolet Cruze
Cory Wolfe replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I can only hope that is not a U.S. spec bumper. The grill arrangement looks to be more of an afterthought than the updated Malibu's grill. It's pretty clear to me the intention was to stick with the split grill, a la Sonic, and they made a last minute change. Either that, or the designers are f**king blind. I think the following picture (Via Jalopnik) perfectly sums up the lack of design.- 17 replies

Input on new tires for my '08 Pontiac G6
Cory Wolfe replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Product Questions and Reviews
For what it's worth, I have Cooper Zeon RS3-A 17" tires on my Avalon. They are considered to be more of a high performance all-season tire, and they only come with a 40k tread-life warranty. So far, the mileage hasn't been too much of a worry. I'm at approximately 30k now and am just below 50% tread life. They aren't the quietest tire while cruising, but not bad overall. Far quieter than the Yokohamas that were on the car, atleast. Also, the tires aren't really worthy of snow driving. I survived the last two winters with them, but it wasn't what I'd call fun. That is trade-off for a higher performance all-season tire, though. All things considered, though, these were only $104 per tire before installation (215-55R17). Also, here's another reference point from everyone's favorite publication. Low Performance All-season: Mid/High Performance All-season: Ultra High Performance All-season: -
Dealerships are the worst aspect of buying a car. Everyone knows it. People hate dealing with them and they hate haggling on price just to not be ripped off. They are greedy, money-hungry, and have a business model straight out of the 50's. Not only that, like many other big businesses, they have deep political ties, generally within one certain party. They use these ties in an attempt at having a monopoly on the market. What we are seeing here is exactly what I just described. Tesla scares these traditional dealerships, not because its a sales threat, but because of the prospect of more automakers following Tesla's lead. They know that if more automakers open up to the direct-sales approach and more consumers see the benefit of not being ripped off... there will be a direct threat to their business model. They absolutely cannot take that risk. They need you to buy all those add-ons that cushion their margins. They want to you to pay that market-adjusted price to make a bit more on hot-selling models. As such, they will use every political advantage they have to avoid the risk. No matter what you think of Tesla, this is a lose-lose situation for the consumer. Sad state of affairs here.

The Accord is one car that actually deserves to be a best seller to real people. It is the best every-man's car in the class. No, it's not the best to look at. No, it's not the best to drive. No, it's not the most luxurious, cheapest, etc. It's just a good car that combines as much of everything that it can to appeal to everyone. It wouldn't be my choice (mostly due to the limitations I face for wanting a manual transmission), but I can't fault anyone for buying it. At least it's not a Camry. Personally, I'd probably go for a Mazda6 or Passat, but the Accord would be my third choice. Unfortunately, as much as the Fusion appeals to me, I could never buy one due to the fact I would be stuck with the 1.6l turbo to get a manual transmission. *shudders*

This could easily be the best looking in its class if it doesn't stray too much. Comparing the Mazda6 to its concept form, I'd have to guess that it will be pretty close. Now, if Mazda could just deliver on the powertrain front. These "Skyactiv" engines are fuel efficient, but lacking in real character... and power. There's two parts to the saying Zoom-Zoom after all, and one Zoom isn't sufficient.

Geneva Motor Show: Audi TT Take Three: Comments
Cory Wolfe replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
The interior is perfection for me. A driver's car should always have a driver's oriented interior. The exterior... Eh, Audi is starting to loose its imagination. They were at their best 5 years ago and it's been a downward spiral since. The front fascia is starting to become a copy and paste disaster, while the body of each car continues to be ever so slightly massaged. It's becoming difficult to tell each Audi apart from one another.
