The fact is, though, that Buick is still selling well given its half-lameduck product lineup while Mitsubishi has an entire crop of newish cars that can't post significant gains. I'll grant you a major problem is the dealer network, or lack thereof. I don't know about you, but I don't find any local Mitsubishi dealership appealing. My other beef with Mitsu is post some real goddamn numbers, guys. Seriously. If you're doing so great, it'll show. If you're not doing great, fine. Guess what? Daewoo posted numbers when it was around, too. So what's the problem here. True.

I'd like to see an updated version of the breakdown Ven requested of that rental breakdown. I wouldn't be surprised to see Avalon/Lucerne fleet mix being closer to each other than many assume. The Avalon just isn't that good of a car and - given the new Camry and ES - really just a waste. Say what you will about the Lucerne, its has more advanced technology, a real trunk, and a V8 option for under $30k, plus a far better warranty.

Buick sells four models. Mitsubishi sells eight.

Sorry, Avalon...we suck again! Three strikes and you're out. Stop trying to design a fullsize car, Toyota. You fail.

If you make one, I'll make you up a custom metallic badge so your car will say...

Does this look reasonable? 2006 GXP | 4000mi | $22,450 2007 GT s/c | 4600mi | $17,950 2007 GT s/c | 6110mi | $17,980 All have leather, sunroof, full power, etc. There is no better deal for a brand-new car. Seriously. You can't begin to get a 4cyl fabric-bedecked Camry for that much.

Welcome to Sketch Competition #15! Revolutions bring about change and for enthusiasts of a certain model of car, the most uncomfortable change is that of a nameplate. Often, a different badge on the car changes very little about the car itself. Other times, it means a sea of difference between the old and new guard. More often than not, a car is simply dumped never to be used again. Well, if you missed it, how about bringing it back? Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to resurrect a defunct GM nameplate as a new model. You have carte blanche to use pretty much any nameplate you want, from Sonoma to Sunbird, LeMans to LeSabre, any car you were fond of or think would fit nicely as a contemporary vehicle. You will probably want to keep your creation as close to what it originally was, like a van called the Astro or a powerful car called the 442. Specific detailing is completely up to you. Your sketch should include at minimum 2 (two) of the following: -3/4 Front View -3/4 Rear View -Interior View Remember, people will be voting based on the overall presentation of your entry, so the more views, the better, including ones not specifically listed above. Also, if you want to include special features, by all means point them out! Aside from 800x600 size guidelines, remember this must be a GM vehicle. The winner will recieve a GM-related prize! Deadline is Thursday, March 22nd @ 11:59PM your local time. Good luck!

A 'new' Jeep consisting of... Patriot Wrangler Liberty Grand Cherokee Is all that is needed. Jeep is in trouble thanks to the Commander, etc. forays. -
Still incorrect. When arguing a factory in Texas is 'better' than one in Mexico, 'better' can be defined and quanitified as having a more experienced workforce, a better-paid workforce, a more environmentally-friendly facility, etc. in addition to the fact that its 'better' for the local American economy around that domestic factory. Interpreting 'better' as an indicator of quality in many cases is right. No doubt an automobile factory in Japan is on the average 'better' than one in Malaysia. The quality of service you get from an American phone bank is 'better' than you get from one in India. An aircraft manufactured in the United States is 'better' than one built wholly in China. These are simple, measurable, quantifiable facts. My disagreement here is his tacit disregard of what racism really is. Racism is based on irrational fear or hatred of a race that one does not understand. There is a big difference between me hating Sinbad because he's black and he hating Sinbad because he's so goddamn unfunny. Likewise, there's a big difference between logically stating Factory X would be 'better [for Americans, etc.]' if it were in America and racism and his whoring out of the 'racism' analogy only weakens an otherwise arguable contention. I swear that 'racism' is the professional speakers' 'your mom' these days... Point taken, though you're largely talking about industries on which a nation does not depend. Textiles and television sets are consumer goods. Automobiles, aircraft, ships, and cutting-edge computer systems are all capital goods that are heavy in the literal or figurative sense and vital to our nation. We don't need TVs or electric blankets to win a war; but we do need automobile manufacturing plants, munitions plants, aircraft plants, and shipyards. We only have two major shipyards left in this country capable of launching capital ships, both on the East Coast. We only have but a handful of major aerospace firms, too. I understand much of this is the natural result of capitalism and business consolidation, but you now have a case where the European Union is lodging formal protests with the WTO on behalf of EADS (a fully-subsidized European producer of junk airframes) because Boeing gets US government contracts. Again, instances like that are why many are against free, unfettered trade and for good reason. EADS is on an active campaign to cripple the largest (and one of the three remaining) American aircraft manufacturers. Think about what happens if we ever need to mobilize our industry again and we don't have full cooperation of certain governments. Seizing Japanese and German automobile factories will go over real well. And we're almost getting to the point where there isn't even that much to seize. Again, this is where my concern lies. I don't like the idea of a world community, of one huge global economy operating without borders or regional constraints because not everyone has that same idealistic, cooperative view as this country does. Hell, not even all of the Western world is that gracious.

Allright, let's not mock people making typos...unless its Sixty8. God knows we all do it. Honestly, I have no problem with the Patriot's interior in and of itself. Its cheap, hard plastic, but as long as its durable, absolutely acceptable for this class of vehicle. However, I have a serious problem with the Compass having the exact...same...interior for the sole reason that its geared towards the on-road, urban market. At least put some jazzy materials inside even if you're keeping the same design. Make it 'urban friendly.' That's MY complaint. And if the Patriot can really do all the offroad stuff, awesome.
-
This ignores the fact that we're losing our tangible manufacturing base. His comparison to racism is specious as best especially as he literally beats it into you and, guess what, I still have a huge problem with concerns like EADS trying to legally contest Boeing's sweetheart American defense contracts when they're completely government-subsidized themselves. Want fair trade? Play fair across the board. And, Christ, stop paralleling everything to racism.
