  1. This is true to a large extent, which is why I view the NHTSA complaint database as one of multiple resources to research in order to draw a conclusion on a car. I've seen some legitimate and familiar problems reported along with alot of stupid $h!, like 'TAPE DECK EATS TAPE', 'CUPHOLDER WONT GO BACK IN', and 'BUMPER SCRATCHES EASILY,' things that really have nothing to do with the 'SAFETY' part of NHTSA. Don't forget a whole lot of 'UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION' reports with LeSabres, Town Cars, Avalons, and Grand Marquis...
  2. I think you need new rear shocks.
  3. Adam CW GM Fan?
  4. It seems possible that GMC will let the SWB Envoy run its course while the LWB XL is phased out, replaced by the 7-seater Acadia to complement the Yukon. I suspect sales of both will be strong as they cater to different clientele.
  5. Stop talking about Europe, Edmunds. Oh wait. They have small cars, but greater congestion, less parking, and worst of all, higher gas prices. Way to be ignorant.
  6. See, I can legitimately post in this thread for I saw a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice. White. With pink racing stripes and a pink stripe down the side. And a Continental Kit, also pink.
  7. Not to detract from the meaning of your response, but is really that difficult for a car dealer to get a real license plate for a customer or is it different in California? My Buick dealer was able to get one for me, as well as my father's Pontiac dealer.
  8. Welcome to the Chop Competition #16 Voting thread! Remember, artists who entered must vote for someone other than themselves. Remember, the 1st place winner will recieve a special GM division keychain prize from Cheers and Gears! Now, which one is the most foolish? -------------- 1 - SAAB 9-8x CSV 2 - Chevrolet rebadge of SKY 3 - Cobalt Diesel 4 - Corvette Flying Saucer 5 - Too Good to be True 6 - Buick Lucerne Streetrod 7 - GM 'We-Have-Too-Many-Models-So-We-Squished-Them-Into-One' 8 - Mali-Hoe 9 - CTS Strike Fighter 10 - Cadillac CCS (valiant attempt at an entry-level luxury car Compact Sedan) 11 - The General Lee's arch-rival, the General Grant
  9. I'm going to check out The Prius Trilogy tonight. Anyone else?
  10. Absolutely. Alot more potential for turbo/supercharging, etc. Alas.
  11. Yes, its all a big joke. There are enough publications and magazines out there that do suck up to Toyota that much; we will always offer you our General Motors side for free. Hope someone got a laugh.
  12. 7-10 days is the standard now, depending on submissions, etc; a week for voting. We don't want to shut someone out who has a rally good sketch/chop but missed the deadline by a few hours or something. These are supposed to be about having fun anyway. Speaking of which, unless anyone out there is still working, we'll wrap this up tonight and prep for voting.
  13. Aint no party like a Chop Comp party 'cause a Chop Comp party don't stop...until 11:59 tonight, that is! A few more hours left! Get those whacky entries in!

Dear Toyot...er, Lexus, The IS is a compact car, not a Winnebago. Please let Winnebago have their sideview mirrors back. Thank you, Everyone.
  15. Allow? They're funded by a group of insurance agencies, right? I would imagine they could afford to test every car back to 1937.
  16. Those wheels need to go, unless Big Boi becomes a cop. Agreed with NeonLX. Many departments are eschewing their Crown Vics for Impalas and with good reason - V6 Impalas are much cheaper to operate and more sensible for the vast majority of duties. You don't need a V8 to sit by a control box manually controlling the traffic signals.
  17. Just like something affiliate with the insurance industry - do less, act like they're doing more.
  18. Its very sensible. I've seen a few GTs and an AWD or three ever. Z is right; the GT revs too much and the AWD has measly power. Good riddance.
  19. Lots of Sonata rentals. I mean lots. Altimas, too, and most of the Mazda5s have seen have been rentals.
  20. Its a fat ML with a Grand Cherokee greenhouse.
  21. Bimmer325! In recognition of his writing prowess, great attitude, and willingness to contribute in extraordinary ways for the betterment of the site, I'm am very pleased and proud to present to you our newest staff member, Lou (Bimmer325) as a Cheers and Gears Associate Editor! I don't think I speak for merely myself when I say I enjoy reading his pieces immensely. Don't rest on those laurels too long, Lou, and draft up some more great feature articles for us!
  22. Say that to the Expedition the ran literally over the trunk of an Eighty-Eight and ended up on its side with its passengers helicoptered to the ER. Only casualty in the Olds was whatever was in that side of the trunk. And even in the case where an SUV 'wins', it comes at the price of those in the car. That's a very selfish way of thinking, IMO. Besides, SUVs are more dangerous simply because the vast majority of their drivers recently upgraded from a Civic or Sentra and have no business being behind the wheel of what is a truck.
  23. I guess I just don't see the big benifit of buying a 2 year old car that has 100 miles on it. BTW, how can it be a "brand new" car with 100 miles on it? Why not just buy a two year old used one with like 10,000 miles on it for like $20K then. There doesn't exist a zero-mileage car, unless it was teleported from the assembly line to the lot and never driven. Transporting the car from the factory to the dealership and test-drives account for the mileage. I really can't believe I had to explain that. And how do you figure 2 years old? It depends on the build date.
  24. Actually, if the 'new' Miata didn't look so much like the old Miata. Its the Cutlass Ciera of sports cars.
