I don't get this height copout crap. America needs to have the world's tallest skyscraper again, not because of 9/11 or defience, but because we're the United States. Someone dig up Frank Lloyd Wright's mile-high tower plan and get crackin'...

Always appreciated. I've always considered our environment to be one of the best reasons to join. I honestly like the SuperTicker in theory, but as said, many times import news since to dominate, oftentimes insignificant stuff, too. As is obvious, GM news is updated the most frequently with the most stories, while only the major import/Ford/DCX news is hit upon for clear reasons. We'll definitely get up to speed on more frequent updates of our Hot Topics since many are calling for it. You may remember a skinnable C&G with different divisional themes. Expect a return of these with more display-friendly and appealing visuals and the ability to skin your entire forum experience, not just the frontpage. However, due to the many projects we have in the works, I'll pull a GM and say - like the Cadillac ULS - its in the cards, but not with a definite release date.

EXCLUSIVE FREE PRESS INTERVIEW: Wagoner: GM's very much alive Don't write off carmaker yet, CEO says September 10, 2006 BY JOE GUY COLLIER Link to Original Article at Detroit Free Press General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner has taken his fair share of criticism this year. Some in the business media have called for him to step down. Wall Street analysts put odds on the likelihood of GM filing for bankruptcy. A major investor pushed him into talks with Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. about forming an alliance. So, after a string of positive developments -- costs are down, operating profits are up -- Wagoner can hardly be blamed for being on the offensive. In an exclusive interview last week with the Free Press, Wagoner was relaxed. He was confident about the state of GM and its future. GM is not in a death spiral, he said. "For all the obits that are written, the last time I checked, one out of every four cars and trucks sold in the United States is a General Motors product, and no one else is close," Wagoner said. "I would rather have that position than somebody else's." Wagoner is right. GM's U.S. market share is roughly 25% through August, and the company is well-positioned in such key growth markets as China and South America. But Wagoner, who started at GM in 1977 as an analyst in the treasurer's office, admits that this last year has not been easy. He's juggled duties and roles, taking over day-to-day North American operations in the midst of financial crisis. "It was busy last year, trying to do all that was going on," he said. The work appeared to be paying off. GM negotiated a deal with the UAW that will save the company $1 billion cash each year in health care costs. Almost 35,000 hourly workers took GM's buyout offer this year, dramatically reducing its labor costs going forward. GM's U.S. sales, on a sharp decline through the first half of 2006 as the company backed off incentives, increased 4% in August. Instead of returning to incentives as a way to drive sales, GM announced last week a 5-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty on 2007 models, which could boost the company's image and the cars' residual values. "I think it is the kind of thing that will build confidence in our products and brands over time," Wagoner said. "I think it will get some people into our showrooms and into our products that otherwise wouldn't have purchased them." But, even as GM shows early signs of turnaround, Wagoner continues to be pressured. Delphi Corp., a former GM division and its chief parts supplier, is in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. At the urging of GM shareholder and billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian, GM is exploring an alliance with Renault and Nissan, which already operate under an alliance. Both are led by the charismatic Carlos Ghosn. Wagoner said last week GM does not need a partner to continue its turnaround, but the company is taking a good look at the advantages that could be gained from a deal with Renault-Nissan. A 90-day review period ends in mid-October. "It's too early to speculate on the results; we don't have results," Wagoner said. "But I think the tone of the working teams, as has been reported back to me, as Carlos reported, is constructive." Alliance or not, Wagoner said, he's committed to the company. He said he understands the stakes. He realizes people's jobs and pensions are on the line. "What motivates you when the coverage isn't so great?" Wagoner asked. "I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility to the job that I have. ... If we don't get this right, there are a lot of people who are going to pay the price." These are critical times for Wagoner and the company. GM is getting its costs in order. It will start next year with about $9 billion less in structural costs than it had at the beginning of 2006. But cutting costs is only part of the solution, Wagoner said. Great cars and trucks ultimately are key to sustainable success at any automaker. GM has had some early successes. The Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice roadsters have drawn favorable reviews. The Chevy HHR has been a surprise hit, and sales of the Pontiac G6 are up dramatically from last year. GM has closed the quality gap considerably with the likes of Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. Cadillac and Buick ranked among the top five brands in J.D. Power and Associates' most recent durability study. But beating the competition is going to take more, Wagoner said. GM must capture the attention of U.S. consumers, who continue to migrate in big numbers to the import nameplates. "We know we are not going to win by doing a car that performs as well, has the same warranty, same relative value to the consumer as -- you pick a product, Toyota X or Honda Y," Wagoner said. "We have to give them a product that 'Wow, that looks great! That looks better.' "The good news is that we can do that." Contact JOE GUY COLLIER at 313-222-6512 or [email protected].

I always wash my own car at home or, if I'm strapped for time, a quick high-pressure rinse and spot-free rinse at the local self-serve.

The A380 is an albatross and many already realize it. The next revolution in air travel are long distance point-to-point flights - i.e. from Chicago to Cairo - that break free from the failed hub-and-spoke system. Boeing's 787 Dreamliner is tailored for that sort of environment while the A380 builds on the outmoded principle that bigger is better. The world's major airports are scaled off the 747 and most authorities firmly stated decades ago that they would not refit to accomodate larger aircraft. The cost of resizing an airport - runways, taxiways, aprons, jetways, terminals, etc - is enormous and with urbanization encroaching on (and naiively bitching) airport easements, many of the world's premier airports simply can't/won't do it. There's a reason why the MD-XX and the double-decker 747 never got off the drawing board in the past and those are part of it. I find the Dreamliner to be a much more intelligent aircraft anyway. Built with bleeding edge technology, designed around the needs of airlines, renewed focus on passenger comfort vs. the cattle car cram-'em-in-and-let-God-sort-'em-out mentality driving the A380. And if you detect a latent dislike for the A380, you're right. I don't like the plane, I don't like the concept behind it, I don't like the company that makes it, and I don't like how Airbus and EADS as a whole operates as a quasi-governmental consortium that loves to publically sock it to Boeing about their US Air Force contracts.

The Mitsubishi "25 Years in America" campaign

I must say, its Mitsubishi's own fault when they announce something like the Zero! Zero! Zero! Sales Event and expect people to not find humor in it. -
Cheers and Gears Exclusive 2007.5 Chevrolet Aveo Hatchback Cheers and Gears has paid for the rights to use these photos. Please link to the URL OF THIS TOPIC AND NOT HOTLINK OR REHOST THE IMAGES if you wish to share! Thank you! Cheers and Gears has paid for the rights to use these photos. Please link to the URL OF THIS TOPIC AND NOT HOTLINK OR REHOST THE IMAGES if you wish to share! Thank you! Earlier this year, we saw the much-appreciated update of Chevrolet’s subcompact Aveo sedan. Today, we’re proud to bring you a glimpse of the hatchback’s makeover, thanks in part to Photographer Chris Doane. Slated for a 2007CY introduction as a 2007MY vehicle (hence our calling it a 2007.5), the next Aveo five-door will carryover the drivetrain with similar mileage improvements to the sedan and likely similar interior upgrades as well. The interior in this caught car is covered. What's hiding? We can't say for sure. However, unlike the original Aveo pair, this hatchback will get styling enhancements all its own. Looking at the rear tells us that circles are the way of tomorrow at Chevrolet. A large, round housing holds the taillamp with the reverse lamp dominating the inset. That whole unit cuts into the bottom of an HHR-sized brakelamp above. Clearly, much for flash is intended for this car. A glace up front shows a much larger, more aggressive Chevrolet bisected fascia similar to what we’ve seen in recent Malibu spy photographs. Foglamps are housed on either side of the big lower opening. Larger, bolder headlamps flank the equally large upper grille opening in what seems to be a ‘blugier’ hood. However, the most interesting feature is the two-slot side vent located above the repeater lamp on either side of the car. No, this is not a trick of your vision, as it is clearly seen in the enlargement. The placement abutting the front doorlines shows this is also not some engineer’s idea of fun but apparently a real production piece. Could this be a performance trim, or a portent of one to come? We cannot say for sure, but the existence of what is still a rather upmarket and trendy styling trait shows GM’s stylists won’t be left behind. Pricing, by the way, will start at just under $10,000, again making Aveo a true value leader. As for what comes after this, look towards 2010CY/11MY for the next-generation Aveo. Spawned off the future proposed GMDAT Gamma platform, the new Aveo is likely to be powered by 1.5l 3cyl Diesel engine, likely just overseas. Not much is known about this vehicle so far, but with the strong introduction of the first Aveo and sales skyrocketing along with gas prices, expect GM to take this market very, very seriously.
