  1. The power is impressive, but I - like QuadA - can't like how it looks. White is bad enough, but combined with those rims, it looks like a DUB toy. Classier...
  2. Without a V8, the LX cars would've seen similar (if not slightly smaller) cumulative numbers as the original and 2nd-gen LH- cars, which (IMO) were far better-engineered cars relative to their time. If the 300 had the same thought and care put into it as the '93 Concorde, New Yorker, and LHS did rather than just HEMIGRILLEHEMIRWDHEMI, it would be likely the best car on the market today. For example, a 4-speaker stereo system on any non-PT Chrysler product is unacceptable.
  3. That's a bit more visually obvious than an abortion.
  4. FOR RELEASE: 2006-10-31 Turbine-Powered EcoJet Concept Began With Meeting, Sketches On A Napkin Jay Leno, GM Advanced Design Studio Collaborated on 650-Horsepower Supercar That Runs on Bio-Diesel LAS VEGAS - What would keep a group of automotive designers up all night? "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno, for starters, but not by his monologue or parade of Hollywood guests. This time it's because the late-night talk show host invited the General Motors Advanced Design Studio to help design a mid-engine, turbine-powered supercar called EcoJet. Leno and Ed Welburn, GM vice president of Global Design, introduced the car today at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. EcoJet's genesis goes back to a discussion between Leno, an avid car enthusiast and collector, and Bernard Juchli, the chief mechanic and caretaker of Leno's collection. Leno then turned to Welburn for design direction. "A couple of paper napkins later, Ed had begun to capture the essence of the car," said Leno. "I've admired the work of GM's Design Studio in North Hollywood, Calif., and asked Ed if the studio's director, Frank Saucedo, and his guys could continue the design study," Welburn agreed, and a two-week sketching frenzy commenced as GM's designers began working after-hours with Leno's team on the project. "EcoJet's esthetics were driven by aeronautical and jet-age influences," said Welburn. "It's a purpose-driven design that conveys power, capability and even danger, with a hint of Cadillac's sophisticated design vocabulary." Borrowing design cues from jet aircraft and Formula One racecars, the supercar began to take shape under the watchful eyes of Leno and Welburn. A concurrent engineering program defined the vehicle's proportions and mechanics. Leno relied on Juchli and the entire Big Dog team at his garage to turn the EcoJet vision into a reality. "We thought we pushed the creative envelope with the '66 twin turbo Toronado project with GM, but this turbine-powered monster is a whole new level of complexity," said Juchli, who constructed the car at Leno's facility. The 650-horsepower (400 lb.-ft. of torque) Leno original is powered by a Honeywell LT-101 turbine engine that runs on bio-diesel fuel. The engine sits in a modified Corvette Z06 hydroformed aluminum frame with aluminum and magnesium structural and chassis components. The vehicle's shell is an advanced construction of carbon fiber over Kevlar. 5. Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. I realize Chrysler has had some quality issues, but pre-fading headlamps is not a solution. Also, the taillamps are still f-in' ugly.
  6. Imperial as a nameplate would certainly help reestablish Chrysler's luxury presence, but only if done right. I think everyone is sick of the tepid Chrysler Imperials, current LX-based concept included. No one wants a Rolls knockoff.
  7. Wow. That San Remo has very Rolls-like lines. Unexpectedly classy for an oft-neglected car. I still want a Coach Builders Eldorado as their style of doing the convertible top is far superior to others I've seen. Thanks for the links and welcome to the site, by the way!
  8. Edmunds tends to have two metalities for handling - M3 or LeSabre, in that if it doesn't handle like an M3 (or close to it), it must handle like a '79 LeSabre. They seem to apply this standard across the board to trucks, minivans, and luxury sedans as if everyone wants a vehicle that rides on rails.
  9. Ehhh...if anything, the current iteration of the G-body is more advanced than ever, incorportating many suspension enhancements as well as magnetic ride control (CXS) over the last revamping in 2000. G- is below the Cadillac-exclusive K-, but (aside from magnetic ride control) only in wheelbase.

  13. The predecessor to Test Track was World of Motion, which was a moving tramway of automotive history. Very tepid in comparison, but more memorable and cutesy. I loved getting off the tramway and stepping foot into the showcase of 'tomorrow,' which at the time (early-90s) included the GM Impact, Lean Machine, some ski thing, and the '88 Buick Lucerne concept. I still have the World of Motion souvenier pamphlets showing the 'new' Cadillac Sixty-Special. I'll scan 'em one day.

  15. Find Your Style It chose for me the SSR, something they don't make anymore. Thanks, GM.
  16. Has the XTronic been improved in anyway, though, in terms of shift quality and power delivery? Because it sucks in current form.
  17. I'd stear towards the Lucerne because its a larger car and I, for one, appreciate the roominess (I'm a bigger guy, and the Aura was a bit laterally cramped for me) and smooth ride, though the Aura by itself makes a very compelling argument. It comes down to whether or not your prefer a sportier ride or more boulevardier handling. Also, keep in mind you can find leftover new '06 CXS Buicks for around $28-30k. This makes the Buick an enormously better buy if you're looking at rote figures (equipment, spaciousness, power). But feel good knowing that, no matter who wins, no one loses here. Both fine cars.
  18. I guess it mostly stems from my car-lovin' roots. I don't deny the X3 is a performer, but I still think the wagon would perform better and personally wish people would buy more of them so manufacturers offer more of them in general.
  19. Honestly, I also prefer the looks of the extended cab. To me, the best-looking of the performance trucks is clear and away the Silverado SS. However, in terms of actual performance, the extra weight of the extended cab combined with AWD can hold it back. Sweet looker, though. And practical. Perhaps there is room for a range of SSs from a bare-bones single cab to a luxuriously-trimmed SS a la the current one. Or perhaps leave that for GMC?
  20. GM @ SEMA2006 Saturn Sky by Gravana Working in conjunction with GM Design, Gravana Tuning – a highly regarded supplier of aftermarket accessories – has pushed the Saturn Sky to the stratosphere with a highly customized concept. The Gravana Tuning Turbo Saturn Sky delivers even more of what roadster buyers want: all-around performance and “stop-dead-in-your-tracks” design. By adding a Hahn Racecraft 16G intercooled stage 3 turbocharger to the Sky’s 2.4L Ecotec engine, the Gravana Tuning concept returns 348 horsepower and 341 lb.-ft. of torque. Road-hugging handling is enhanced by an adjustable coil-over-shock suspension system that can lower the vehicle by as much as 3 inches – without changing the spring rate. Body roll is virtually non-existent with the addition of 25 mm front and 28 mm rear stabilizer bars. Massive 14-inch drilled and slotted front brake rotors, with four-piston calipers, provide additional stopping power, while a number of functional design elements serve to deliver more cool air into the engine and to extract heat from it. Outside, the Gravana Tuning Turbo Saturn Sky complements the sleek, crisp and modern lines of the production vehicle, further enhancing its bold, cutting-edge design. Unique front and rear fascias, bodyside panels and rear center exit exhaust – not to mention the OZ Superleggera III 19-inch wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires – give this special Sky a longer, lower, and sleek presence on the road. Inside, the Gravana Tuning Turbo Saturn Sky features a carbon fiber console and dash inserts. The seat and door panels are finished in Katzkin leather and suede. Seven Boston Acoustics premium speakers and a Visteon eight-channel DSP 360-watt amplifier provide optimal aural enjoyment and complete the interior upgrade.
