By breaking the tie, I break the rules since this is for WMJ and 79-Z06 and I don't want to ruin the sacred tenents of Tight Whipitude.

Yeah, the Avalanche was pretty revolutionary.

Well, like I said when I posted those pics, when I see this car, I see Cadillac moving one step closer to a world-beating future DTS/ULS. Also, I've seen a good number of TC Executive Ls in private hands, but this is Florida.

FOR RELEASE: 2006-11-22 Elegance And Efficiency Converge In GM's Los Angeles Auto Show Lineup LOS ANGELES – The General Motors portfolio at the Los Angeles Auto Show continues the company’s ongoing and dramatic product resurgence, with a focus on cars and SUVs that feature sophisticated, globally inspired designs as well as advanced, fuel-saving technologies. The show will feature all-new entries by Buick, GMC and Saturn – including two of the four hybrid models GM will launch in calendar year 2007, as well as a resurrection of Cadillac’s Platinum Series and special-edition Saab models that commemorate the vehicle brand’s 60 th anniversary. Chevrolet will highlight two hydrogen fuel cell models – the Sequel and the Equinox Fuel Cell – that provide show goers with a glimpse of clean, petroleum-free transportation. “We always look forward to the L.A. Auto Show because Los Angeles is such an important market for trend-setting cars and trucks,” said GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner, who will kick off media days as the keynote speaker at the Motor Press Guild breakfast. “Besides launching a number of exciting new production cars, trucks and crossovers, we’ll also demonstrate our commitment to addressing fuel economy and environmental concerns with several very important advanced technology vehicles.” According to the recently issued 2007 EPA Fuel Economy Guide, GM leads the industry with more vehicles that achieve an EPA-estimated 30 mpg or more on the highway. For the 2007 model year, GM offers 23 such vehicles, up from 14 in 2006. Here are the specific models that GM will highlight in L.A. : 2008 Buick Enclave 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid 2008 Saturn Vue Saturn Aura Green Line hybrid Saab 9-3 60 th Anniversary Edition Saab 9-5 60 th Anniversary Edition HUMMER HO 2 Design Concept (Design Challenge entry) Cadillac Platinum Series (XLR, STS, DTS) Cadillac DTS-L Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Chevrolet Sequel

Remember, we're a bunch of fanboys. This is our hero...

This is true. I'd imagine a Aura Green Line and Altima hybrid available for the 2007 model year would've made it a tough competition. This also explains the Ridgeline's win last year for trucks. Really, what new came out for 2006 in the truck market?

I really am in love with how this thing looks. Maybe I'm old for my age. Anyway, all GM needs to do now is outfit this in two ways: DTS-L - basic stretch for livery companies and aftermarketeers. DTS-L+ - the above with four-passenger seating, rear and side sunshades, full-length full-function center console with entertainment/climate controls and beverage cooler and two DVD screen in the front seat headrests. This option should cost $6000. The total price for this package and car should be just under $60k. Take a moment. Imagine that. Then imagine what could succeed it in a few years.

Kerkorian cut GM stake from 9.9% to 7.4% November 22, 2006 By TOM KRISHER | ASSOCIATED PRESS Link to Original Article @ Detroit Free Press Dissident General Motors Corp. shareholder Kirk Kerkorian said Wednesday that he has agreed to slash his stake in the troubled automaker by selling 14 million shares of its stock this week. In a filing today with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission, Kerkorian’s Tracinda Corp. said it had reached agreement on Monday to sell the shares at $33 each in a private transaction. The agreement will close on Friday, the filing said. Kerkorian now owns 56 million shares, or 9.9% of the company, according to the LionShares.com financial Web site. The sale would reduce his stake to 42 million, or 7.4% of the company’s 565.5 million outstanding shares.

PRESS RELEASE: GM @ LAIAS CADILLAC DTS-L: STRIKING NEW PLAYER IN THE LIVERY SEDAN MARKET LOS ANGELES – Cadillac today announced it is introducing a new version of its DTS full-size luxury sedan, the DTS-L, specially designed and built for livery service operators and executive luxury car consumers. Launching in early 2007, the extended DTS-L provides eight additional inches of cabin space and sophisticated, VIP-caliber rear-seat accommodations. “The DTS-L is intended to create a compelling new choice for livery and executive sedan operators and consumers,” said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. “This extends the momentum of Cadillac’s product renaissance and growth into an influential segment of the luxury and professional vehicles market.” The DTS-L brings Cadillac’s dramatic design and quality to the influential livery sedan world. Converted exclusively by a Cadillac Master Coachbuilder, the brand’s Professional Vehicles conversion specialists, the DTS-L features distinctive “VIP Privacy” rear seating. With the added length inserted behind the rear doors, the DTS-L includes an executive privacy seating position, with the back-seat passengers concealed behind the C-pillar, rearward of the side windows. In addition, DTS-L drivers and passengers enjoy numerous luxury amenities and excellent driving dynamics. Powered by the acclaimed 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 engine, the 275-horsepower (205 kW) DTS-L is quiet, smooth and responsive. Heated and cooled driver and passenger front seats with memory settings; heated rear outboard seats; rear four-way power lumbar controls and adjustable headrests; Adaptive Remote Start; OnStar; XM Satellite Radio; DVD navigation and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system are several examples of key DTS-L luxury features. DTS-L extends to a total length of 215.6 inches and offers more rear-seat space than comparable extended wheelbase offerings from Lincoln and Lexus. “The new DTS-L is the latest in Cadillac’s long and proud tradition of professional vehicles,” Taylor said. DTS-L follows in the footsteps of the DTS Presidential Limousine, the world’s first DTS sedan that began its service to the U.S. Secret Service and the president at his inauguration in January 2005. DTS and the Escalade full-size luxury SUV are also converted by Cadillac Master Coachbuilders into stretch limousines. Preliminary Specifications

The simple fact is, some people are buying these CSVs we all make fun of and a lot more people would purchase GM vans if they were good. Abandoning this market completely just isn't smart.
-
Why doesn't Chrysler just reopen a K-car factory? The quality would certainly be better.
-
The coupe should be really spacious. More low-brow Bimmers for high school chicks.
-
For reference, some past MT COTYs...

He's not a girl, dude. I'd try for low-mileage, senior owned LH- cars. I know there a nice private-party blue Concorde around here for $3000 with 39k miles.
-
I still like the canatlievered roof look of the H-bodies. Nerdy as it may seem, I grew up wanting these cars.
-
The Bonneville has plenty of rear leg and hip room. And even though the heavily-slanted backlight cuts into headroom much more than any other G-body, I have never hit my head sitting in the rear and I nautrally sit higher than the average person because I'm weird.
-
I could easily see GTP, Regal GS, Intrigue, and LaCrosse folks cross-shopping the CTS based not solely on pricing but also in similar performance/luxury characteristics of all these cars, especially those B-O-P owners who view the CTS as a step up. There was similar migration from Aurora to Seville.

Ah, what the hell... time to expose you!
