  1. Welcome to Sketch Competition #14! The Cobalt is getting old. Well. No. Not entirely, though with the competition constantly evolving and GM's own sister divisions getting hot new products like Saturn's Astra, it doesn't seem like a mere three years have gone by. Its not arguable that the current Cobalt brought Chevrolet into a level playing field in the crowded small compact market, but aside from the supercharged SS coupe, the rest of the line seems little more than competent. Let's change that. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to create the next generation of Chevrolet small car. Remember that the Cobalt should remain tidy in exterior dimensions, but the rest is up to you. Small cars come in a plethora of bodystyles from 2-door coupes to five-door wagons and everything in between. Maybe you want to sketch a hot factory tuned sportcoupe or a forward-thinking sedan. It may even be time to resurrect the spirit of the Cavalier convertible for a fun little ragtop. Do with it what you wish and use existing Chevy design cues or make up new ones of your own. Your sketch should include at minimum 2 (two) of the following: -3/4 Front View -3/4 Rear View -Interior View Remember, people will be voting based on the overall presentation of your entry, so the more views, the better, including ones not specifically listed above. Also, if you want to include special features, by all means point them out! Aside from 800x600 size guidelines, remember this must be a Chevrolet vehicle. The winner will recieve a GM-related prize! Deadline is Friday, February 23rd @ 11:59PM your local time. Good luck!

Welcome back for our other entrants who have been absent from Choppin' for awhile and hope to see you again in our next competitions. Thanks also to everyone else for entering! Speaking of which, our 2008 Cadillac CTS has one day left for entries. Deadline is Wednesday, January 31st @ 11:59PM. Also, check out our brand new Super Buick 'Chop contest where you have the opportunity to lay some Super-ness on the LaCrosse, Lucerne, and or Enclave. 5. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #35! Hey, you! Open your eyes...wake up! Yeah, that was for the people still waiting for the LaCrosse Super to debut. Like the Second Coming, its coming...but...when? We may get to see the real thing as soon as Chicago or as late as New York. Kind of makes you wonder whether a rumored Lucerne Super will ever break cover, nevermind what it'll look like. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to modify the LaCrosse, Lucerne, or Enclave as a Super trim. Lowered, blacked-out, low-profile, its up to you. How much you modify the Buick of your choice is up to you, but remember that the Super trim going to aim for luxury with performance in a sophisticated package. Remember, you can also change pretty much anything you want on the car, its your choice. Design something worthy of the moniker, Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove! Please use only the Buick LaCrosse, Lucerne, or Enclave for your entry. Some Picture Sources... -Autodeadline* -FamilyCar.com -CarPhotoSite -Netcarshow Size guidelines remain at 800x600, so please size your entry accordingly. Please do not submit your images as Bitmap (.bmp) files. The winner will recieve a GM-related prize from C&G! Deadline is Thursday, February 15th @ 11:59PM your local time. Good luck and have fun! *Instructions for accessing high-resolution images through AutoDeadline: Replace the bold, orange section of the URL... (http://gm.wieck.com/forms/gm/*query?silverado&Source=all) ...with the make/model/etc you're searching for. Replacing 'silverado' with 'lesabre' will bring up downloadable hi-res images of the Buick LeSabre.
  6. From Autoblog...
  7. All these theft-deterrent devices are a waste. If someone wants your car, they're going to take it and 80% of the time, they're going to take it because they want to strip it for parts. Stealing a 1966 Chrysler at any point after about 1972 is retarded. Not only is it stupid obvious, but why?
  8. Too much trouble and would probably cost $$$, eating into my 'potential fuel savings.'
  9. Both have both... ...the DTS' presentation - like the entire car - is far more upscale, though.
  10. Does it even matter? I can't buy this and neither can alot of Americans.
  11. No, the second-generation S-10 Blazer was pretty ratty. The preceeding model seem more reliable and at least far more stable as a vehicle. The only redeeming aspects of them were the 4.3l V6.
  12. Can't whore out something that hasn't even existed. Super has no identity and whether Buick wants to craft it as a mix of performance and styling (T-Type) or as just an upper crust of refinement is up to them.
  13. Take this image in context, that its from GM's Style Gala whatever event and consider it a Motorama of today, an opportunity for GM to model its hottest production and concept cars with celebrities. Note that Pontiac is sponsoring more and more urban youth concerts and the like as well as serious motorsports, HUMMER is participating in offroad events, and Buick's perennial golf sponsorship.
  14. Little bit different. Its more confusing to use Toyota to sell Lexus as Toyota is a marque of its own. I don't entirely disagree with you, though, except that DCX is certainly doing that with its American marques.
  15. The original image was that of a Nash Metropolitan, which is indeed true to my comment. Though, really, if you know anything about the Henry J, its also a piece of $h!. Anyway...

  17. General Motors Will Introduce New Saturn Astra And Pontiac G8 Passenger Cars At 2007 Chicago Auto Show DETROIT – General Motors will introduce the all-new 2008 Saturn Astra and 2008 Pontiac G8 at the Chicago Auto Show next week, building on the momentum of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit – where the Saturn Aura captured the North American Car of the Year award and the Chevrolet Silverado claimed the North American Truck of the Year award. Saturn continues its product revitalization with the new Astra compact car, along with the 2008 Vue Red Line and Vue Green Line hybrid. The Astra marks the fifth all-new vehicle in Saturn’s lineup, and is the last step in a complete reinvention of the brand’s showroom in less than 20 months. The G8 sedan represents Pontiac 's continuing commitment to rear-wheel-drive performance, and adds to the G6 GXP and Torrent GXP recently introduced in Detroit. Additionally, a pair of special-edition Chevrolet Corvettes will debut. The Chicago Auto Show is open to the public Feb. 9-18 at McCormick Place. GM also will bring the cars that caused a stir in Detroit : the Chevrolet Volt electric car concept, the Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2008 Cadillac CTS. “It is truly an exciting time at GM, because every few weeks, we get to show off all-new models that reinforce the fact that we’re not only back in the car market, we’re back with the intention to lead it,” said GM North America president Troy Clarke. “The common thread linking all of these great new products is our renewed commitment to design excellence and technological innovation.” Complementing GM’s new vehicles at the Chicago Auto Show is an all-new exhibit that is the auto show equivalent of an art gallery. It features a distinctive, more intuitive layout that allows visitors to experience GM’s eight individual brands in gallery-type settings.
  18. Holden returns to China GM's second attempt to crack China's luxury market By ALYSHA WEBB & NAMRITA CHOW | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek SHANGHAI - Shanghai General Motors will begin producing the Holden Statesman sedan in Shanghai in a few months, industry sources say. Local assembly is a gamble for General Motors. Another luxury model from its Holden subsidiary in Australia flopped in China last year. The Statesman will face stiff competition. But it may be GM's best option. The luxury segment is booming in China. Sales rose 36.6 percent in 2006 to 17,940 units, according to Automotive Resources Asia, a consulting firm here. GM's other full-sized luxury entrant is the Cadillac SLS, a stretched version of the STS. It starts at 498,000 yuan, or about $64,000 at current exchange rates. The Statesman would give buyers a less expensive option. To be competitive, it should be priced below $51,500, analysts say. Even at that price, the going will be tough because the Holden name lacks cachet in China. The lengthy Australian sedan will compete with a stretched version of the hot-selling Audi A6, designed with more room in the rearr for passengers. A stretched BMW 5 series will also be a competitor. The previous Holden variant offered in China, the Buick Royaum, sold poorly in that country's growing luxury segment. In June 2005, Shanghai GM introduced a rebadged Holden Commodore sedan, called the Buick Royaum, in China. GM canceled local production last August.

    Two for One

I believe so, too. Epsilon II will be laterally wider and adaptable for AWD in addition to other refinements. I believe the original Epsilon Wide was supposed to underpin the 2005 LaCrosse and 9-5, but it was cancelled early on.
  20. Cars like the Lucerne and DTS are tops on my list.
  21. This Edmunds editor - Daniel Pud - is trying to be Top Gear witty at moments but failing miserably. You can pick up on the haughtiness throughout this pathetic write-up.
  22. For those that aren't ga-ga over the styling (me included), just remember keeps the wolves at bay so we can have our own NA-conceived G8 in a few more years.
