  1. How is VW going to achieve 800,000 target?
  2. I think I will die before the W body does.
  3. I don't think press car is considered a sale. May be Malibu incentives are taking over Cruze as I was surprised with the jump the Bu got. One more highlight, despite of price increase and lack of incentives the Silverado and Sierra are moving. So much for the dealers' argument for not being price competitive with other trucks. I still believe GM killed an existing versatile specialty truck for a glorified truck which is not in the pipeline. Old GM dies hard.
  4. Wow at ~16,000 units GM cannot justify Avalanche and Escalade EXT, yet Audi can justify TT for a measely 1,800 units.
  5. China is buying our cheap coal.
  6. So how is his point different than the point Ocnblu makes, since both of them look into the past? One beats the subject about a dead lion in one era and other one about a lion that became a dead donkey in a different era. The fact is both are dead and neither points are constructive. To be clear, that is what I was responding to. Not to what was, but to what can be. I do not have a lion or a donkey in the Big Pontiac Show to be emotional about it. Past - good or bad cannot be changed, but future is always a possibility and can be controlled.
  7. What is your point?
  8. Pontiac - Poor People's Porsche.
  9. Happy Birthday on the other side of the duck pond.
  10. Yes definitely; same length as a E36, yet being almost 2 inches wider gives it a proportionate look. It's funny how BMW is showing automatic transmission laden cars in the photographs. Times are changing.
  11. I agree with you SMK. It is a BMW in a while that I find dynamically fascinating. Closer spiritual successor of E46 330izhp or E36M3. The proportions do not look odd like the bulldog shaped 1series. M235 can be something to consider as a daily driver.
  12. Again, the i3 and i8 are very new...and disgusting, IMO. Personally, I like the generally evolutionary styling BMW, M-B, and Porsche use...continuity and heritage to grow on, rather than total change every few years...better than the generic appliance styling seen from other car makers, IMO.. So does Toyota and Honda. Look at the Camcords and Corovics.
  13. None of the German manufacturers are innovative when it comes to "design". Their underlying design theme - Same sausage different dimensions. The sad part is media loves it. In someways I do not like the universal grille adaptation of the Cadillacs and Buicks. At least Chevy has 5 different faces and yet you could recognize them as being Chevies.
  14. Two things that really turn me off on the departing 1 series. Too overwrought stylistically and not really an E46 successor as much as magazines claim it to be. I sometime wish how would the 3.0T behave in the beautiful E46 chassis.
  15. May be auto-switching with manual override?
  16. While it is a rule of thumb, a weight to peak power ratio of 15 - 20:1 is good balance for optimal fuel economy and fun performance - granted it depends on a lot of factors. That is one of the reasons why Encore, Cruze, are not getting the best out of their offered power trains and have to utilize sluggish transmissions to keep up with that fuel mileage while sacrificing the overall performance. A 160 - 200 hp engine with smooth linear power delivery would be ideal for these vehicles.
  17. The current coupe and convertible are going to be 2 series. 1 series will be the RWD hatches until they are replaced possibly with FWD hatches.
  18. 3,300 vs 3,900.
  19. 1998 Chevy Lumina - (Since 02/2002) Then 71,700 now 236,100 2005 Acura TSX - (Since 12/2006) Then 25,991 now 113,300 -> wife's car, mine first 2005 BMW 330i - (Since 02/2009) Then 57,236 now 123,400 -> wife's car, mine first 2008 Chevy Corvette Z06 - (Since 04/2012) Then 15,894 now 27,298
  20. Yes for safety reasons.
  21. You love and quote Car and Driver to suit your needs, right? Go and read its comparison. Don't give me the excuse that people will not get the Cayenne as Car and Driver optioned. And Tuareg starts at $48K.
  22. Happy birthday Joe. Since you are into state of art technology, here is a gift for you.
  23. Yes we are on the same page. Actually the second gen is from 63. Chevrolet never officially called the 56-62 as a new generation. The design changes were more like a mid cycle refresh and hence C1.5
  24. If you compare Buick EP2 vehicles (Regal and LaCrosse) and Chevy EP2.5 vehicles (Malibu and Impala), EP2.5 vehicles are approximately 100 - 150 lb lighter for comparable trims. IIRC, EP2.5 vehicles had additional amount of high strength structural steel added to them. My bet is SWB EP3 would be weighing the same as the ATS, given the reduction you can expect.
