  1. Tiger Woods has been Buick's spokesman for years and it hasn't shook the image that Buick is an old person's car at all, and hasn't really helped increase sales. I think they ought to drop him for a more effective spokesman.
  2. Here's hoping that Flint's next in line for this kind of treatment.
  3. So are you saying that the electricians, milwrights, tinsmiths and so on don't deserve high pay and benefits for what they do? Besides, if anyone in the automotive industry is overpaid, its the executives. They pay recieved by the skilled tradesmen is pretty equal to the pay they'd recieve working independantly, but if you want to place blame on the folks that are making far too much, look no further than management. General Motors, Ford and probably DaimlerChrysler have far too many people in management and executive positions, which is no secret to anybody, making far too much...especially with the extravangent bonuses they recieve. But I'm probably even wasting my time, since you already said "I suppose the UAW will just keep losing members and GM will keep making plants outside of the U.S. until there are no manufacturing jobs left in the U.S. That's fine with me since I don't plan to go into that line of work"...so I don't suppose you really give a rat's ass about the workers.
  4. Just out of curiousity, exactly what do you have against the UAW or unions in general?
  5. Saw a '60s-era Ford Galaxie up for sale today. It LOOKS like its in good shape, but lord knows...
  6. '07, '17, '27...you know, whenever.
  7. The one where the Nitro jumps the other car, I laughed at, but I agree that for the most part, these ads aren't very good. At least one of the Big Three is taking some action to improve their advertising. The only good commercial out of Detroit lately is Ford's new Shelby commercial.
  8. I think that every American should consider buying domestics, but I don't necessarily belive that every car in America should be domestic. Not just because its of the global economy we've got now, but also because, think about it, the roads would be pretty boring if we only saw American cars driving on them. And even as much as I'm an avid supporter of buying American cars, if I had a Rolls-Royce or an old Volkswagon minibus, they'd definitely be in my rotation, and I'm sure I'm not the only person on this website who loves American cars above all, but still drools over a few imports.
  9. Well, as much as everyone is going to hate hearing this, the unions NEED to stay around. If they did disappear, the companies would gradually revert back to the way they used to treat their workers and in less than a decade it would be just as bad as it was years ago. Workers will get sick of it and...BAM...we're back to square one. Unions aren't something that can be completely unestablished or uninvented, they're a necessary evil and the fact that they exist keeps non-unionized (and of course unionized) companies in line. Does anyone actually think Toyota treats their workers well because they respect them any more than the other guys? Hell no, its the threat of unionization that keeps them from mistreating the workers.
  10. Good news for the Big Three. Toyota and Honda get all the good news, I'm glad that Detroit's getting some now.
  11. I'm glad cities like Spring Hill and Lansing are getting new and retooled plants for future products instead of places like...Flint.
  12. I always thought the old Mopars looked best in orange, but I just don't feel it this time around.
  13. In Detroit they set fire to houses.
  14. Seeing Isuzu's score made me laugh. Its really disappointing seeing Pontiac so far down on the list, though.
  15. Ya know, the subtitle on this thread was "A MASSIVE BM". I was expecting something else.
  16. Hopefully they replaced that cheap-ass dashboard plastic on this model.
  17. They jumping on this problem really early. This has been a really mild winter so far (its been raining for the last week...in MICHIGAN), so its a good sign to see that GM's taking this quality claim seriously.
  18. Something similar happened to me over the summer. Driving down a two lane street facing a Dodge Ram, it wasn't until too late that he decided he was going to turn into his driveway. Couldn't go around thanks to road workers, so I tried to beat him to the driveway. Dumbass drove right into me.
  19. No kidding. At least GM's replacing a few plants they've closed in Lansing. They've replaced one plant up here out of the five they closed (not to mention the two impending plant closures). For some reason Flint doesn't understand that you have to work with the company if you expect them to work with you. Maybe they will when Delphi East and Powertrain North are gone.
  20. Sometimes I like something Mitsubishi puts out...but this is just going to be another car on the road to me.
  21. Not surprising at all. Its a terrible thing, but absolutely unsurprising.
