DETROIT - The Chevrolet Malibu and the Mazda CX-9 were chosen as the car and truck of the year at the North American International Auto Show. The awards were presented Sunday, the first day of media previews for the show. It opens to the public on Saturday. It was the second major award for the CX-9 crossover, which was named Motor Trend's 2008 sport utility of the year in October. "The CX-9 was designed for North America, and I think the award is recognition that the team delivered on the promise," Mazda Executive Vice President Robert Graziano said. Bob Lutz, General Motors Corp.'s vice chairman of product development, said GM is rapidly trying to add more production capacity to keep up with demand for the Malibu. "It's gone way beyond our expectations," he said. Four of the six finalists for the awards were GM products. The Malibu, Cadillac CTS and Honda Accord were finalists for car of the year, while the CX-9, the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid were finalists for truck of the year. GM was a double winner in 2007, while Honda Motor Co. captured both honors the year before. To be considered for the coveted honor, which often is used in automakers' advertising, vehicles must be new or substantially changed from the previous model. More than 50 new vehicles were eligible this year, but jurors winnowed that list to 15 cars and 13 trucks. The winners were selected by a jury of 46 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. Jurors consider a variety of factors, including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value. The North American honors have been given annually since 1994. Jamie LaReau Automotive News January 13, 2008 - 1:45 pm ET UPDATED: 1/13/08 3:17 p.m. DETROIT -- General Motors is willing to boost incentive spending in 2008, says Mark LaNeve, vice president of North American vehicle sales, service and marketing. He says he believes that U.S. vehicle sales in 2008 will be flat because manufacturers will likely spend more on incentives to keep it around 16 million. GM in the past has been known to spend more on incentives than some of its competitors. "We've broken that cycle of incentive spending," LaNeve said, noting that buyers' reasons for choosing GM have evolved from a great deal to a great product. "But you still have to be competitive," he said today at the Detroit auto show. LaNeve said GM's daily rental fleet business in 2008 will be flat to down slightly, as much as 15 percent, from 2007. GM cut 108,000 units from daily rental fleet sales in 2007. GM President of North America Troy Clarke says he GM full-size trucks and SUVs were down 5 percent in 2007. He said because of that, this year's mix will likely include fewer trucks.

I see a future where the Elizabeth plant in Australia could be the main plant for the production of the beautiful Chevy Aveo. -

Odd you say this, all I hear out of Europe is, "GM Europe post record breaking sales in Europe!". All I hear out of Australia is, "Holden needs export market to survive!", or "Holden's home market share, worst in 50 years!". Europe being either the 2nd or 1st largest auto market in the world depending on, who you listen to at the time. Either way it's bigger than that little country Down Under. :AH-HA_wink: -
Perhaps they could use a Hairy Proto European to do the TV commercial. :AH-HA_wink:

Oh I take my whole birthday week off. No need to rush into being 39. :AH-HA_wink:

If it is, get ready to say goodbye to the Holden name and hello to Chevrolet Asia Pacific or Chevrolet Australia. :AH-HA_wink: -
General Motors is considering building a micro-premium car, a new report finds. The model — which is being considered in the wake of new CAFE regulations and $100 a barrel oil — would compete against the MINI Cooper, BMW 1-series and Audi A3. However, GM is still deciding which architecture to use in the new car. The Detroit automaker recently announced that it will build a production a version of the Beat concept in the coming years, but its fuel-efficient front-drive setup wouldn't translate well into a driver-focused premium package. The Kappa platform remains a possibility — the same that underpins the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice — as does a new small rear-wheel drive platform still under development. What also remains unclear is what brand GM would sell the vehicle under. The Cadillac brand isn't a candidate for the new model as GM wants to keep the luxury marque for bigger, high-powered cars, and the Chevrolet brand is likely out because it couldn't command the price of a luxury model. With Pontiac vehicles focusing on strictly performance vehicles, that leave Buick, Saab and Saturn. While a decision is still a ways out — GM hasn't even built a clay model of the vehicle yet — it would seem that Buick would be a perfect fit for the new model. Its not-quite-Cadillac premium image and new focus on style — see the Enclave CUV — would lend itself seamlessly to a premium small car. Whatever the car ends up being, it shows a new way of thinking at GM and a general shift in what a premium car can be. As one GM executive said, "It's a given that everyone will have to de-couple luxury from size if we are to make that 35 mpg." Link: http://www.leftlanenews.com/gm-to-produce-...remium-car.html

Well as you know I love purple, as my GXP is the same color. But why does it only have 103 miles on it and it's at a Saturn dealer? -
