Posted Jan 27th 2008 11:27AM by Jonathon Ramsey via Autoblog Wired magazine got in the queue for some face time with Bob Lutz at the Detroit Auto Show, and came back with a quote that's raised a few brows. When asked what the target market for the car would be, Lutz said "I don't know. You'd like to have it at about $30,000 for the customer, but what I'm hearing from the team is we're not going to get there.... f it costs closer to 40 than 30, well, that's too bad." The issue is the timeline. His engineering team said that if they had more time they could cost-optimize the car, but Lutz doesn't want to wait for that. As for the recent go-round about when the Volt would appear, November 2010 is such a firm deadline in his mind that when it comes to the internal team, his only question is: "What is there about November 2010 that you don't understand?" Lutz must know how important it will be to price this car competitively. A $40,000 Volt before you start checking options boxes will do a lot to keep people looking elsewhere for green options. For Lutz, though, the Volt -- like the moon landing -- is much about prestige, saying, "If it doesn't work, it's not fatal. But if it does work, it will be sensational." It is also just as much about a return to the kind of design and technological form that the marque hasn't seen in a long time. "GM's credibility is rapidly returning and it's beginning to be reflected in the marketplace.," Lutz said, "ut there is no doubt you'd like to be able to leapfrog Toyota and come out with a car they aren't ready to do. There's nothing magic about the technology. Two or three years after the Volt is introduced, everybody will have something like it. We'd just like to be first for once." I went to Atlantic City on a recent trip home to Delaware, I brought a hundred bucks with me, I played the slots all day long on that 100, winning more than losing, then after 8 hours I hit a string of loses. I was down to my last 3 bucks, I put my 3, one dollar tokens into the machine and hit for 5000 bucks. Don't you know the Federal government has IRS agents on site in the casinos, they made me fill out federal forms and pay the federal tax on site!

VIDEO: Japanese machine sucks snow, s***s bricks
Oracle of Delphi replied to ZL-1's topic in The Lounge
Just another piece of useless technology that the Japanese seem attracted to. It all started with Gigantor back in the 50's and 60's, and continues to this day. Are the green things covering his nipples? So it looks like all Gigantor has on is a belt and a bra. -

California is not a Southern state, it's a Western state. Here is what historically is considered The South which includes the Border States (striped area) of Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri. West Virginia (had seceded from Virginia after Virginia seceded from the Union) which had a vast numbers of their population fight for the South, even though their state stayed technically in the Union. Dark Blue states = Union Light Blue states = Claimed by Union Orange states = Confederacy Yellow states = Border states (former Slave states that stayed in the Union but sent troops to fight for the Confederacy) Tan states = Claimed by the Confederacy. Kansas = No Mans Land -

Well I do have a few computer skills, let's just say "There is nothing wrong with your web cam. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We can reduce the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to GM Europe". :rotflmao: -

Nothing of the sort Sir. I am just warning my C&G brothers and sisters of what's going on internally at good old GM. It doesn't do my heart good to see you so nervous, how do I know your nervous you may ask, just by the content of your post. It's OK, I will hold your hand as well, when Holden comes crashing down, even though your main site is GMOUTSIDENEWS. Yes der Bö®gÉr is a very compassionate man indeed. :AH-HA_wink: You know after all is said and done, we should get together and have a pint and a laugh, I'm sure we would have a very stimulating conversation indeed. Give my love to MonaroSS and a BIG kiss to JoeT from me, no tongue though please! G'day M8t, Bö®gÉr starts to sing as he walks away "Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda Who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled, "Who'll come ..." -

Well, that wouldn't be you then, you need two available hands to do that, and for some reason your other hand is always busy! At least, that's what you tell me. Remind me never to shake your hand!!!! :AH-HA_wink: -
It's about the same, if not worse. :AH-HA_wink:

They better make it RWD with an LS7 so Camino will buy it, and no B pillar so 68 will be satisfied too. :rotflmao:

Get them while you can, two model years tops! :AH-HA_wink:

I know the 4 door Crewman is going to be shown at Chicago, now I hear that the Ute may also only be shown in Chicago and not in NY. I also hear GM Bean Counters are looking at the pros and cons of bringing the Pontiac ST to the USA once again. Remember what happened when they looked at the Sportwagon? Just thought y'all should know so your not caught by the short hairs once again. -
Hmmm, I said that last year when I was at Holden, I was told I didn't know what I was talking about, even though I drove the Holden. Well now you will all see it. Enjoy that quality interior.

Well since it's electric, perhaps a Humming sound would work, you should be good at making Humming sounds with your mouth after all these years doing it. :AH-HA_wink: -
That won't happen, to many GME employees are now in Detroit and Port Melbourne quietly assimilating. :AH-HA_wink:

CAW threatens to strike GM in Oshawa, Ontario
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in General Motors
I think the workers there will say GM has thrown all this money into our plant and they wont close us, but I have seen GM throw 300 million into a plant and close it down 10 months later.
