Screw them, GM should have never sold them. I will see them once again under GM, cough, cough, GME. If it's the last thing I do.

Well since it was designed and engineered by GME, I think they should call it the Chevy Europa.

JERUSALEM - In Israel's ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, where the rule of law sometimes takes a back seat to the rule of God, zealots are on a campaign to stamp out behavior they consider unchaste. They hurl stones at women for such "sins" as wearing a red blouse and attack stores selling devices that can access the Internet. In recent weeks, self-styled "modesty patrols" have been accused of breaking into the apartment of a Jerusalem woman and beating her for allegedly consorting with men. They have torched a store that sells MP4 players, fearing devout Jews would use them to download pornography. "These breaches of purity and modesty endanger our community," said 38-year-old Elchanan Blau, defending the bearded, black-robed zealots. "If it takes fire to get them to stop, then so be it." Many ultra-Orthodox Jews are dismayed by the violence, but the enforcers often enjoy quiet approval from rabbis eager to protect their own reputations as guardians of the faith, community members say. And while some welcome anything that keeps secular culture out of their cloistered world, others feel terrorized, knowing that the mere perception of impropriety could ruin their lives. "There are eyes and ears all over the place, very similar to what you hear about in countries like Iran," says Israeli-American novelist Naomi Ragen, an observant Jew who has chronicled the troubles that confront some women living in the ultra-Orthodox world. The violence has already deepened the antagonism between the 600,000 haredim, or God-fearing, and the secular majority, which resents having religious rules dictated to them. Religious vigilantes operate in a society that has granted their community influence well beyond its numbers — partly out of a commitment to revive the great centers of Jewish scholarship destroyed in the Holocaust, but also because the Orthodox are perennial king-makers in Israeli coalition politics. Thus public transport is grounded for the Jewish Sabbath each Saturday, and the rabbis control all Jewish marriage and divorce in Israel. In recent years, however, the haredim have eased up on their long campaign to impose their rules on secular areas, and nowadays many restaurants and suburban shopping centers are open on the Sabbath. These days, most vigilante attacks take place in the zealots' own neighborhoods. 'They can burn in hell' Israel police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the modesty police are not an organized phenomenon, just rogue enforcers carrying out isolated attacks. But Israel's Justice Ministry used the term "modesty patrols" in an indictment against a man accused of assaulting the Jerusalem woman. The unidentified, 31-year-old woman had left the ultra-Orthodox fold after getting divorced, according to the indictment filed by the Jerusalem district attorney's office. The indictment said her assailant tried to get her to leave her apartment in a haredi neighborhood in Jerusalem by gagging, beating and threatening to kill her. He was paid $2,000 for the attack, it said. A 17-year-old who moved to Israel from New York five years ago said she was hospitalized after being attacked with pepper spray by a crowd of men outraged that she was walking down a Jerusalem street with boys. "They can burn in hell," said the girl, who would identify herself only as Rivka. She lives in Beit Shemesh, a town outside Jerusalem where the vigilantism has been particularly violent. Zealots there have thrown rocks and spat at women, and set fire to trash bins to protest impiety. Walls of the neighborhood are plastered with signs exhorting women to dress modestly — spelled out as closed-necked, long-sleeved blouses and long skirts. Opel to get is own version of Volt
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Opel/Vauxhall
Already in the works. -
Not quite, the loans were approved by the House as part of a larger spending bill, and are intended to help the industry refurbish decades-old plants (plants GM didn't have the money to refurbish, so yeah, it is day to day operations the money is going to be used for) and develop advanced batteries and gas-electric hybrids.

GM to close Ohio SUV plant 2 years ahead of plan
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in General Motors
I always preferred the Olds Bravada of any of the others, with the GMC Envoy coming in 2nd. Does anyone know what the cost difference was between the Isuzu Ascender and the GMC Envoy, since they are the same truck. Was the warranty better on the Isuzu or was it better on the GMC? -

Anybody want to guess where gas prices end up.....
Oracle of Delphi replied to daves87rs's topic in The Lounge
Of course, the Republicans think Americans are stupid, let's lower the gas price and they will vote for us and forget about how high it was in the past. Not! -
Sarah Palin, is a failin! She's what's killing John McCain's chances and I'm all for that. I'm voting more against her than against McCain, but whatever works. I saw McCain on TV here, he was saying how bout that Sarah Palin in last night's debates? Hannnnn? I thought I was listening to the Penguin from the old Batman TV show.

Do you really think that GM is going to use that money to further RWD hopes, when it needs that money to just run day to day operations? Come on get real!

Amy Wilson Automotive News October 3, 2008 - 11:30 am ET PARIS -- General Motors' second extended-range electric vehicle will be an Opel. Opel, GM's European brand, will sell its own version of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in just months after the Volt's promised on-sale date in late 2010, said Hans Demant, managing director of Opel. "Since fuel economy and the whole issue of ecological driving is as important in Europe as it is in North America, we made a decision that we're going to trail the North American Volt with an Opel version of that vehicle in the 2011 time frame," Demant said here. Though the Opel plug-in will share the Volt's powertrain, it will have its own design, he said. The vehicles could have similar silhouettes that provide aerodynamic advantages. But "it's not a badge vehicle, definitely not," Demant said. Leading up to the arrival of the Opel version, GM representatives will be working on developing the infrastructure in Europe to allow for charging of the vehicle. Though the Volt's range can be extended by a gasoline engine, GM is targeting it to daily commuters who can operate the car on electric power alone for as far as 40 miles a day. The lithium ion battery then can be recharged overnight. "If you own a nice flat in Paris, charging it at home might be difficult," Demant said. "We need to find a way to charge that car as often as we can, so that you can, with the extended range, use your internal combustion engine as little as possible." David Barkholz Automotive News October 3, 2008 - 4:30 pm ET DETROIT -- General Motors is ending production of its slow-selling mid-sized SUVs on Dec. 23, two years earlier than announced in June. GM is pulling ahead the closure of its Moraine, Ohio, assembly plant because of market conditions, said GM spokesman Chris Lee. Moraine builds the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer SS, GMC Envoy and Envoy Denali and Saab 9-7X. In June, GM said it would close Moraine in 2010 or sooner, Lee said. The closing will idle about 1,100 hourly workers represented by the IUE-CWA electrical workers union. An additional 100 salaried employees work there, Lee said. U.S. sales of TrailBlazers fell 30.8 percent in September and 27.9 percent for the year to date. Envoy sales were down 19 percent in September. GM will run production at Moraine in December after earlier deciding to idle production for the month. Workers were told of the new closing date today. Lee said negotiations are under way with the union to determine whether workers would be offered buyouts and retirement incentives that were offered to employees in June. GM bought the Moraine plant in 1981 from an appliance maker. It has built vehicles since. Link: http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...p;rssfeed=RSS31

When I graduated high school 2 years early, my parents surprised me with a new car. They knew I loved Pontiacs, but couldn't make a deal with the local Pontiac dealer on a new 1986 Pontiac Grand Am. So they ordered a new 1986 Olds Calais for about a thousand bucks less than the Grand Am. The Olds dealer was hungry, so he got my parents business. (car pictured was exactly like mine) - I never took pics when I was a teenager.
