You probably know that Tiger Woods is a Buick guy. And why shouldn't he be a Buick guy as General Motors had him under contract to promote Buick for ten years for 70 million dollars. That's probably why Tiger loved every Buick made over the last decade in all of those Buick commercials. But when GM hit the skids early this year it dumped Woods a year early from the 10-year contract. So here's the strange part. The smoking gun recently published Tiger's police report from the accident ( http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/1202092woods1.html ) and it turns out that the Black Cadillac Escalade belongs to General Motors. OK, it is actually titled to a promotion company that works with GM, but don't be fooled the SUV belongs to GM. So all these years we thought that Tiger was a Buick guy and as it turns out he's really a Cadillac guy. That's kinda like discovering that all these years Tiger was into blondes and as it turns out he's really into...ah never mind. By Bernie Woodall DETROIT (Reuters) - The last time General Motors had a plain-talking Texan on its board of directors who was critical of the way the automaker did business, GM sent Ross Perot packing. Perot of Dallas said he hopes that Ed Whitacre of San Antonio won't run into the institutional stonewalling the billionaire investor faced in the mid-1980s when, as a member of GM's board, he challenged then-CEO and chairman Roger B. Smith. "I disagreed with what they were doing," Perot told Reuters in a telephone interview on Wednesday. "Then suddenly, they just didn't want anybody around to point out what we needed to do. They decided to get rid of the nuisance." Whitacre, 68, became acting CEO of General Motors Co GM.UL when Fritz Henderson, 51, abruptly resigned on Tuesday. Whitacre has been serving as GM board chairman since July. Perot, who became a household name in 1992 as a third-party presidential candidate, served on GM's board from 1984 to 1986 after it acquired EDS, a data processing company he founded. Perot, 79, said he did not know whether GM's corporate culture was as insulated and aloof now as it was in the 1980s. "The people at the working level wanted to change the culture and the people running the company at the time did not want to change it," Perot said. Perot hoped Whitacre would have the wisdom not to make the same mistakes he spotted among GM executives two decades ago, when he observed that very few senior leaders of the company took the time to visit factories. In his short tenure as GM, Whitacre has made surprise visits to plants where he has spoken with workers. The first time Perot hosted GM executives at EDS in Texas after the acquisition, they were shocked, he said. "We went to lunch and we got in line and they almost fainted," Perot said. "They couldn't believe I ate in the cafeteria and that I had to go to the back of the line." They were also surprised how good the food was, and that's the point, Perot said. When company executives are treated the same way as the frontline workers, quality rises, he said. "It's very important in any company to have a very close relationship with the people who make your product, and those are the factory workers who make the cars," Perot said. Here Is A Group Trying To Save Pontiac
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
All I am going to say is this, what's past is past, but looking forward I think people on this site should think twice before they post. On my part in the last few months, I have gone out of my way to bring this site to GM's attention. That is finally starting to take shape and GM is starting to take notice of C&G. Those GM car reviews that C&G is getting are examples of me working behind the scenes and hard work from the mods and Oldsmoboi. In the future do you want GM to see those kinds of threads? GM is here you know, as members. Going forward, I think if you are about to ding another GM brand or model, you should say to yourself, would I want someone to say that about the brand or car I drive? I think I know the answer to that question, however I could be wrong. It's a new world now post bankruptcy, and we should all be working together as a team, to help GM return to the great car company we know it can be, and in doing that we help each other and ourselves in the process. -
Oh I understood what you were doing, but newbies may not have the same knowledge as we do, and find it confusing, just a thought ...

Thanks for moving GM over top the brands, but wouldn't it make sense to put the brands in alphabetical order?

GM's Saab Brand Is Drawing Fresh Interest
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in SAAB / NEVS
Saab can/will be different, we can roll the production and engineering cost in with Opel, shut down various operations in Sweden and move production to various Opel plants, thereby saving a bunch of EU dollars and making Saab competitive in it's home market and abroad ... The Saab brand still has cache ... We still need the GM Board's approval, hopefully we get that on Tuesday ... -

He traded in his two 2006 Chrysler Grand Cherokees (wife and his) for two Toyota RAV4s. This is a person who always bought Chrysler. I asked why, he wrote back, I never thought I would buy a foreign car, but it was just a better deal ... I have taken him off my e-mail list ...

Chevy Cruze Hatch in the Works – US Bound? I suspect you will get the wagon from Europe too ... Holden is in the news again, this time allegedly cooking up a hatchback version of the Chevy Cruze. The handsome (yes, legitimately handsome … especially next to a Cobalt!) product of a union between Suzuki and GM, the Cruze looks to be a hit in Europe, where it has already debuted. Destined to replace the Cobalt, the Holden hatch version has a slim chance of sales here, where hatchbacks generally do poorly. Of course, with a turbocharged Ecotec motor and some tuned suspension, it could be a Mazdaspeed 3 or GTI killer. Are you listening, GM? GM's Saab Brand Is Drawing Fresh Interest
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in SAAB / NEVS
If you remember, Fritz took the same stance on the Opel deal, he supported selling it to Magna. The GM Board decided otherwise. Let's hope they show the same good sense again on Tuesday, we have found a way to reduce Saab cost dramatically. It would make sense to keep it too, now that the Saab tree is about to bear fruit ... -
Holden Statesman Review & Road Test
Oracle of Delphi replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
I find it superior to the DTS in both room per passenger, and ride quality. The trans in my opinion is good, but with some minor programming changes it could be even better. OnStar in Oz is called Holden Assist.
