  1. But Cadillac has plenty of design language all its own, and is doing fine without them. Can GM leave something for Buick? They don't seem to have many (any?) good ideas for Buick.
  2. Josh: So? I stand by my comments. It's not news and, as has been the case too much here, yet again pits one GM brand against another. Poor move, IMHO.
  3. This topic was formerly in the C&G Lounge, now it's moved to the General Motors News  section? Hardly deserving to be thought of as news. What good can come of it, other than making one GM brand look bad compared to another?
  4. I wish GM would have come in with an even more low-ball starting price on the Buick Lucerne, deliberately less than the comparable Lexus or whatever. (Though they can't get too close to LaCrosse pricing.) I also wish they would have taken the warranty even farther than 4 yrs/50K mi. But, since neither happened, how about if the advertising for the Lucerne stresses quality and quietness and certain features?
  5. For me, Buick, 'cause it's going to be the one I purchase. P.S. - Please stop these topics that pit one GM make against each other. GM has positioned Buick and Pontiac and GMC together, each helping and complementing the other. They are now linked as virtually one make, so try to be encouraging to each! Instead, why not run a poll of which GM executive :o needs to be canned? My vote will be for whoever most let Buick and Pontiac get in this position.
  6. An interesting new test has shown that the interior of the Buick Lucerne ^_^ is quieter than the Lexus ES 330. Here is a direct link to the story, written by Anita Lienert. Since the test was between a Buick and a Lexus, maybe GM still intends Buick to be a rival to Lexus. And for those of you who doubt that portholes should only be used on a Buick (not the '07 Cadillac Escalade  ), here is a link to a story from this past March by Ms. Lienert.
  7. "The Day," a newspaper in New London, CT, has an article summarizing the changes in various makes for 2006, including Buick. What initially burned me is their wording "The revision of Buick's sedans is complete . . . " but, hopefully, they merely mean complete as of '06.
  8. Here is a brief article, "Buick: Lucerne ready to do battle in luxury field," from the October 12th Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  9. Congratulations to C&G for this recognition. :CG_all:
  10. Right now? A nicely-loaded Buick Lucerne CXS, probably in white opal clearcoat thingy.
  11. Thank you all, gentlemen. (I had searched this site under "GMX022" but found nothing.) I appreciate your responses.
  12. ehaase: Thank you for being on top of things. Here's the exact quote from the Times: " . . . The Saab brand is thought to not be worth further investment. Hummer is not seen as a core asset but one that should be sold . . . "
  13. Can someone please remind me whether GMX022, a Kappa Buick, is still a potential product? According to Ted's information, GMX020 is the Pontiac Solstice; the Saturn Sky is GMX023, and an Opel GT is GMX024. (Also, I'm curious what GMX021 may have been.) Thank you.
  14. Possibly, but is the G6 worthy as a starting point? Someone suggested rebadging a Saab convertible as a Buick, and thegriffon stated they may do just that.

    "Pimp GM's Ride"

I'd be all for the return of the full-width taillamp, a former Buick styling cue. In fact, just recently I saw a description of the 1966 Buick Electra and, according to this information, it had the "widest" taillight ever made. (Each of the Electras, '65-'68, were full-width.)
  16. Let me put it this way... GM already looks like a bunch of fools -- for many reasons -- including the cutting of Oldsmobile, a historical and viable American brand for some 100 years. If they cut another make like Buick or Pontiac, GM is through -- not from the act, per se -- but from running another of their hallowed brands into the ground. How can you even suggest they cut Buick, which, along with Cadillac, is one of the top five-rated vehicles for quality? ( <_< Are you gonna say like Lutz did, "We've got to protect Cadillac"? Bull****!) Leave a place in the market for Buick; stop giving everything to Chevrolet or Saturn! If you have to cut something, cut the morons that helped to make Buick and Pontiac "damaged" brands! In one tiny way, I'd like to see GM drop Buick - if only because then they (and some of the immature fools on this board) couldn't make Buick the whipping boy anymore and deny GM's poor management. < where's that outraged smilie whose head explodes in anger when you need it? > Buick isn't to blame for GM's problems, but GM is d*** sure to blame for Buick's problems!

    "Pimp GM's Ride"

Good idea, especially if the Velite is not to be produced. Do you think it's too late to do anything with the 2000 Buick LaCrosse concept design? Is that dated or inappropriate now?

    "Pimp GM's Ride"

The Flint Journal today posted an article titled "Pimp B) GM's Ride" to the website Mlive.com Everything Michigan. Included are some suggestions from various people on how to improve the exterior of the Buick LaCrosse.
  19. Mike the Canadian: Thanks for the news! I'll be watching and taping. But I can't imagine Martha Stewart having as good a line as Donald Trump did on his "Apprentice" series, when he was riding in his limousine and said, "Take me to Pontiac!"
  20. This thread needs a cheerleader! Ahem... Any reports of Buick's death are greatly exaggerated! Buick has a beautiful new car, the Lucerne, being launched this Fall, including a big promotion planned on Martha Stewart's "Apprentice" tv show. With several first-time features and Buick's extended warranty, the Lucerne promises to be one of the most refined Buicks ever. Then, in late 2007, an all-new Buick Rendezvous, on the Lambda platform, makes its debut. Based on the Centieme concept but described by insiders as even better, this is a Buick for which to dream up. LaCrosse sales continues to increase. And even if the Rainier and Terraza are dropped, Buick can be more focused than it has been the last few years, as one part of the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel! There was mismanagement on the part of GM in the late 20th-century and is fierce competition from all around in the early 21st-century --- but Buick is still hanging in there! <_< Well, I tried.

    Buick's Future

I think ehaase was saying three, after Rainier and Terraza are dropped. Possibly Buick will get a rebadged Equinox in 2009, and perhaps a RWD flagship around 2010 or so. Or maybe GM will crumble before then. Today I jotted down a line that stuck in my mind. It was said about something else, but I fear it may apply to Buick: " . . . a victim of late 20th-century mismanagement and early 21st-century competition . . . "
  22. A review of the Buick Lucerne, from Macleans in Canada
  23. Can that be the Buick Invicta?
  24. Thank you, ehaase and zoomtm for shoring up my sagging energy, after seeing that blurb. (And I certainly do pay attention to the insiders here, as well as Automotive News, but I just was disgusted after seeing that statement in-print. I used to read Motor Trend regularly, when I was a kid.)
  25. Josh: What's Buick's performance vehicle? I must have missed it.
