Say what you want about JR, but the numbers show that he is an above average driver when it comes to wins and top 5s and 10s. Considering that ever since his dad died, DEI equipment has been in a steady decline where Hendrick, JGR, RCR, and others have made huge strides in their program. I'm not the biggest JR fan, but I think most people are going to be suprised to see his talents come out next year.

I have to say that this is by far the BEST HEADLINE I have seen on C&G in a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time! Even if it has nothing to do with cars. Reg! (edit from WMJ) Hope this makes it into the best of for 07

I would just like to say that NASCAR can thank Theresa Earnhardt for singlehandedly lowering their ratings by giving Dale Jr. a Piece of $h!!!! To drive in every week after he declared that he wanted a stake in the company and then said that he was leaving for Hendrick. Dale Jr. fans don't watch when he is wadded up in the wall or blown up in the garage. NASCAR is starting to piss me off more and more as well.

As far as the southeast, Publix is badass. Way better than anything else out there and worth the slight price premium. I do have to say that weggman's in the NE and Dominick's in the midwest and about any store that is less than 10 years old/remodeled in the west is superior food shopping. Especially now that Albertsons threw in the towel. For those of you wondering how am I qualified to make this assumption..... I have been to a supermarket in at least 40 states. Everything from a Piggly Wiggly to a Giant Eagle to a Stop and Go to Acme the list goes on an on an on...

Constant bashing would be airing that comercial more than once. Just remember they were too cowardly to air that comercial here in Fresno. At least when CBS spoofed Fresno in '86 they had enough guts to put it on national television. Normally I don't get in arguements on messageboards, and you can think you are winning this arguement all that you want in your closed minded world. But remember this, when you bite into anything that has to do with fruits, vegetables, or nuts, chances are it came from Fresno. Remember, dont $h! where you eat buddy.

You know, you get all hurt and sad when somebody bashed dodge and you have nothing to do with them. Just be ready for Cerrebus to close Chrysler down completely like they did Aegis Corp. when the times get tough. It's going to happen and then don't expect sympathy from anybody. I live here, I work here, this is my home and it was offensive to consider us in the same relm of carnival entertainment and the middle finger. But, on the other hand, I guess it's nice to be well enough recognized to be dissed like this, unlike bummturd, MA where you live Oh by the way, I just made fun of your city in case you didn't understand that so don't get mad and lighten up.

No, that was just one of our councilmembers being a smart ass. We have a gap distribution center here which is the most recent major corporation investment.
-
So uh, where do you live? There was no reason to single out a city as being an inadequate part of our future because that is exactly what the prius ad is portraying. On top of that, they didn't even have the guts to air it here so that we could see them singling us out so that we could make the decision to not buy their cars anymore because they think that the City of Fresno is inadequate. Yeah, it's ok to poke fun at Fresno in certain situations but this was just cruel. Besides making fun of Fresno went out with the 80s like TJ Hooker.

I live in Fresno and this was in the newspaper this morning. Just another reason why I will not be buying anything Toyota in the near future. I mean, yeah we sometimes deserve to be poked fun at with Bubba from "In the Heat of the Night" as our mayor and Donald Trump wanting to build a golf course here, but we NOT a pit stop. (Especially since we are the largest city in America NOT ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY)

Here is the ad: Prius Ad about Fresno HERE This is from the Fresno Bee http://www.fresnobee.com/263/story/188063.html Toyota isn't getting a lot of mileage out of a new ad campaign for its fuel-efficient Prius -- at least not in Fresno. The commercial, which implies that you would only stop here if you were low on gas, is sparking rebukes from Central Valley residents, city officials and even U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein. And now Toyota is issuing a recall for the TV spot, which the company admits was ill conceived. "I did not like it one bit," said Fresno Mayor Alan Autry, who complained to Feinstein's office, prompting a "scathing" missive from the senator to Toyota officials. The ad, created by Atlanta-based 22Squared for Toyota dealers in the Southeast U.S., could be viewed Friday on the Internet Web site YouTube. It depicts two people in a Prius "in the future," where "gas stations will become nothing more than low-budget tourist stops. Like ghost towns ... or Fresno." Feinstein's letter to Shige Hayakawa, president of Toyota North America, expresses "profound disappointment with the current Toyota Prius advertising campaign which gratuitously insults the city of Fresno." That prompted Irving A. Miller, group vice president for Toyota corporate communications, to issue an apology Friday "to the great city of Fresno for this commercial." He said the commercial was "edited overnight to remove any reference to Fresno and we have implemented a series of controls that will allow us to monitor future local advertising to prevent this type of error from occurring." Autry has his view of why the ad agency would pick on Fresno. "These folks really don't have a lot of creativity," he said. Singling out the city is something that "just rears up every now and then. "We may not have a bay or a beach, but if you're looking for a place to raise a family, Fresno doesn't have a peer." City Council Member Mike Dages thinks taking shots at Fresno goes all the way back to the early 1980s, when then-Mayor Dan Whitehurst went on a late-night television show and made a number of self-deprecating remarks about the city. "Perception is a tough thing to get rid of," he said. "But I don't know how many people from Fresno are going to buy a Prius. Agencies should know better than that." Council Member Jerry Duncan also sent a letter of complaint to the Toyota chief. "Enough," he said. "We're tired of it." Council Member Henry T. Perea joked that perhaps the whole thing was a geographical error. "Maybe they're talking about Fresno, Texas," he said. He added: "It's important for Fresno to push a progressive agenda and those types of things will be a thing of the past. "I will forgive Toyota if they locate a Prius factory here."

My best friend works for lockheed and from what he has told me, lockheed tends to take pretty good care of its employees. He is on leave right now in grad school but he did work in their rocket science and tech department in sunnyvale california. One thing is for sure about working for lockheed. They will never be out of work because they are only one of like 3 defense contractors left on earth. Nice to hear from you. I have been kinda MIA too so I know the feeling.

The American freight locomotive is also desinged for visibility as the snub nose and windows all around the cab help the engineer see more of whats in front and around him. As far as bus design, I have driven a GM fishbowl and a Gillig and and Orion and anything else you want to name. Buses today are designed to have more visibility, be able to carry more passengers and have more room for people standing up inside them. If you are tall and stand in a GM bus from the 60s it is pretty cramped. Also, buses today are designed to only last 12 years. Honestly, if you want to see a even more quality bus than GM's check out Crown Coach buses. Their buses were so good that nobody bought new ones and they put themsleves out of buisness basically. The school district where I live (in california mind you) has Crown buses that were built in the late 60s that are superior to new blue birds that they have now.

Hudson, you are right in what you say about WWII and Japan and I guess I was just a litte too much on the soapbox on that but I think the reason why our products are "inferior" there is more to do with thier ability to advance technology, advertising, and distribustion at a much much much faster rate due to their much smaller country. Cell Phones is a great example of that. Could Verizon or AT&T roll out gen III systems here with national advertising if they haven't spent a lot of money upgrading all the infastructure throughout the country? Just a though. But your comments regarding GM pulling out would look bad. In my opinion, JGR is creating the breach the second they announce that they are moving to Toyota. Honestly this problem is throughout NASCAR because drivers and sponsors and everybody can breach and start and re-sign whenever they want. It's very bizarre but NASCAR lets it happen. It would be nice if somebody would eventually say "hey they are really hurting my credibility by switching to something else and I have enough money and sponsorship or whatever already invested in this sport that pulling out some money and support isnt going to do much" But on the other hand I guess it could backfire and create others to want to consider other options because they don't want it to happen to them. I think what needs to happen is no official announcements of anything until the end of the season. There should be a gag order or something to prevent these things from happening. But NASCAR is truly a franchise system running as an Independent Contractor System. I really hate companies that try to exclusively use independent contractors.

Hello all, First, I am still alive. I have been battling health issues since around the 4th of July and the doctors just NOW decided to draw blood which kinda frustrates me. Hopefully I will start feeling better once they figure out what is wrong with me. Now to all the mods out there, what is to follow please move if you deem it appropriate for GM to see because I am very upset right now. I have been a NASCAR fan since 1993. I was immediately drawn to the number 3 Goodwrench Chevrolet that Dale Earnhardt drove because of the sponsor, the number and the color of the car. I was an Earnhardt fan after that and I still proudly display a Goodwrench/Earnhardt licence plate frame on my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. Fast Forward to 2003 where I am working at a locally sanctioned NASCAR track in Madera Ca., where I had worked for about 4 years at the time. Tony Stewart, the defending Winston Cup Champion is going to visit our track and race there during Easter weekend. From my personal experience with him which involved eating with him and his manager, playing some cards with him and interviewing him multiple times in front of thousands of people, I began to see that Stewart was a regular guy that just happened to have an amazing talent involving racing. I was proud that I drove the same car he did in NASCAR. I have been a Tony Stewart fan ever sense. When I found out today that my greatest fears had come true and his owner, Joe Gibbs, who is a self proclaimed AMERICAN CHRISTIAN has decided that siding with a Japanese company, the same country that devastated us during World War II and has still not been an equal trading partner ever since has enticed this all American Christian to join their team. Although there were some reports that Stewart was against abandoning his nearly decade long association with General Motors, he had no choice but to go to Toyota with his car owner. Now with this back story I have three major issues: 1) If Tony Stewart is truly trying to extend his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing, he does not mean what he says because ANY Chevrolet team would be ecstatic to sign him. 2) Tony Stewart claims that he hopes GM continues to get support in his sprint car programs, but why should they if he isn't able to show them any support on national television as one of their drivers and supporters of equipment. 3) This may be my most important issue regardless of it's third position. Why does General Motors feel the need to continue the support of their contract with JGR? I am a law student and it was explained to me in pretty plain English that if the contract no longer benefits you that it is best to breach the contract and just deal with the consequences later. JGR has basically told GM that they are not what they want anymore. So I don't see why it is important that GM support the two teams JGR is going to have in the "Chase" just to help them win. It would be a great statement if they stopped factory support and recalled their block and head cores and told JGR that they are on their own and good luck. There needs to be consequences in NASCAR. I greatly fear that within the next ten years, that Toyota is going to do the same thing that they have done to almost every form of American motorsport that they have joined. They will spend any amount of money to become the dominant factor and then get board of being the sold successful manufacture and then abandon the sport. NASCAR and GM, I hope you are aware of my feelings. Sincerely, Justin Loyear Fresno, California

Justin Bimmer replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in The Lounge

Thank goodness for recorded songs. All I have heard is how much Journey sucks now. Steve Perry was the man (from a little town south of me called Hanford, CA) Why do bands like this get to keep the same name? They should have to change their name to some cover name cause it's not the same.

Lebron is at best an above average player. He is not a Kobe or Wade at all. He bitches way too much to the officials. He needs to spend some more time in the gym working on his shot if he wants to be a better player.

This doesn't always work either. When I was traveling with a company and we had two brand new Dodge Ram diesels, we would take them in to get serviced at the dealer cause they were the only place that would work on the trucks. SalesPEOPLE (yes women too) would encourage me to trade the truck in TODAY and drive off with a new one even after I a) told them what it was, which obviously made it a speciality work vehicle b) told them that it was not even a year old and had very few miles on it c) then they would see the truck with the work logo on the truck and still ask me then FINALLY I would say to them "Look, let me get out the COLLECTION of service cards that I have from all the dealers across the country I have HAD to visit with this POS truck so far in 12,000 miles." They would finally walk away....
