  1. It was a Buick thing. We can do with 6 what it takes others 8 to do. Or something like that.
  2. Yeah your right Wagner doesn't know what he is doing. He just went and hired Bob Lutz to get the approval process cut down to size, get global platforms standardized, and interior quality up. He also kicked up budgets for platform spending, materials costs, and has introduced new marketing strategies (unifying Buick, Pontiac, and GM into one full line). In addition he has refined the 'homeroom' priciple so that regional expertice is being tapped into (see Holden for RWD programs and GME for Compact FWD cars). He also has hand picked Ed Welburn to get the NA design team's on the right track. So despite the fact that he, himself wasn't the guy to get things done he HAS gotten those guys to GM and he has done a great job of that.I think Rick, like president Clinton, will be remembered as doing a good job but with a few stains on his reputation, Fiat being the big one.
  3. Studies have found that the word 'like' is used as a filler because younger, less mature people, typically teanagers, are uncomfortable with breaks in conversation.
  4. People that use 'Ax' instead of Ask. Bugs the living sh*t outta me.
  5. I have NEVER been warned by a moderator. I won't be because I am not the one who started this. I simply am defending my position against someone who wants to keep old outdated tech, when GM is clearly not doing this. Wanna keep responding go ahead I am out.
  6. OK Razor here we go. I am talking outta my BUTT? My bad the 3800 dates back to the 60s not the 50s I made a mistake, sue me. Want the full history? http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html Now about this well it could have been done to the 3800. Check this out 60° V6 engines are smoother running. Who else besides GM makes a 90° V6? Mercedes does based on their 3 valve OHC V8s. That is IT! NOBODY else makes them does that tell you something. I will BET MONEY that the 3900 IS more compact than the 3800. It is a 60° V6 that has the same size block as the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5 V6 GM has been refining since the early 80s! The 3900 achieves its more compact design while getting more displacement by using offset bore centers, insiders could go into more detail about how this was done I frankly don't know. The 3800 uses equal bore centers AND it is wider, taller, and heavier than the 3900 despite both having IRON blocks. The 3900 would still be lighter if both had IRON heads but it doesn't it has aluminum heads. The 3800 crybabies need to get over the fact that GM has moved on beyond their old outdated engine. The 3.5 shortstar should have replaced the 3800 in 2000 when it came online for the Intrigue, but NO the penny pinchers at Pontiac and Buick wanted to squeeze every dollar they could out of the damn boat anchor 3800 before being forced to change it out nearly 10 years later. If Olds didn't have to use its own budget on the 4.0 and 3.5 Olds motors and the grannies at Buick and Pontiac would have chipped in a little bit Olds might still be around. But instead of using a more advanced, smoother, better gas mileage motor (which there were performance variations developed making 270 hp BTW) they decided to stick with the old "tired and true" 3800. Perhaps we would all be driving BOF box cars of the 80s if people like you had your way. GET WITH THE PROGRAM "Gramps" the 3800 is DEAD and it had way to many stays of execution for its own good. I will give it to those that designed, built, and improved it over the years that they did a great job BUT if the 3900 had been in production since the 70s with only little tweeks here and there it should be pretty bullet proof too. And don't try that it could have been done to the 3800 because there was more than enough stuff done to it to give it the edge. Also I would like it noted that the 3900 beats the 3800 NA top to bottom, even you must see that. When the 3900 SC comes out I am SURE you will think it is the second coming because it makes more power, gets better gas mileage and la deda deda than the 3800 SC. Until then how about you pull your head out of the sand, go drive a 3900 car, or better yet a LS4 car and see what the real wold can do NOW!
  7. Will Suzuki be getting this in the US? Chevy in Canada?
  8. Hi, my name is Casey, I had a 88 Sable and a 90 Taurus. My father bought both new and the 88 went for 239K miles with no drivetrain problems till the oil pump failed and we sold it to a friend who rebuilt the motor and drove it another 60K before selling it. Our 90 Taurus had no problems besides the horn honking at random intervals. Now you can say you know someone who didn't have their tranny rebuilt.
  9. Yeah but would you have DOD active or passive when partly on the clutch? What % of clutch play vs Throttle input requires DOD to turn off? See that is what I am getting at.
  10. Because there are people who WILL do something. All that is needed is someone with enough balls to not listen to the lobbiests that the INS and drug companies have and we can get some stuff moving. Heck all you need is a few people to get it into the press and then EVERYONE will want something done. It would be easy enough to get it to pass if you could get the press's attention.
  11. Did you not think the Enclave was amazing? Remember it is replacing the Rendevous.
  12. I don't know that there is a 6 speed manual designed for transverse FWD usage that will hold up to the power of the LS4 in existance. Also that would throw the DOD right out the window, how would the computer know when to activate DOD when you do the shifting?
  13. I don't forsee the V8 cars getting the 6 speed at least the first year of the 6 speeds but I do forsee the 3.9 and 3.5 getting it.
  14. It won't be difficult at all. I imagine that right now there are TONS of test models being driven around Detroit, Canada, Australia, Africa, and Europe testing a LOT of motors with the 6 speed autos. Impalas, Malibus, Lambdas, Sigma cars, VEs, Trucks. Basically everything is being tested now or within the next few months.
  15. Cheers to all of C&G for being better than GMI. And for not letting so many GM hating trolls invade the boards!
  16. The new 6 speed autos are actually smaller and easier to package. In addition they are something like 20% or more lighter.BTW there are several different versions of the new autos, just like the current 4 speeds (ranging from 4T40E, 4T60E, 4T65E, 4T80E). And yes I know the 4T80E is unrelated but there will be a HD version of the new FWD 6-speed auto.
  17. This is a HUGE problem for ALL companies right now, except insurance companies. I work in a healthcare office and after I am done with school will start my own practice. I can tell you 2 things that will have a HUGE impact on my future: 1 the rising cost of healthcare 2 the lower benefit levels people are getting for their dollar in healthcare. People and companies are paying insurance companies more and yet they get less in return. Higher deductibles and copays, lower allowed amounts. That money is going somewhere and to get an idea of where take a look at your insurance provider's stock price in the last few years. Here is mine for example. From around $22 a share to over $50 in 2 years is crazy for a healthcare company. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=HUM&t=2y
  18. I belive the 4 cylinder AWD models were the only ones that got the CVT. Also the Ion Quad Coupe got it but the sedan did not, it got the 5 speed that nobdoy liked, I think that was also in the Vue, maybe FWD only? I got lost in a lot of this. I would actually like to get a AWD 4 cyl CVT Vue for my wife as she doesn't maintain speed very well and is constantly making her transmission downshift, plus I would guess it would get a little better gas mileage than her 98 Malibu V6 base.
  19. Catch on guys Chris either bought a franchise or stock or he knows something we don't about the dietary part of the menu.
  20. The N* fits under the XLR's hood and the 4.4 SC N* fits under the XLR-Vs you should know that judging from your name.
  21. I am going to need help on this one, Car or crossover, large or small We should be able to figure it out from that. Also would this have to do with the recent poll on Fastlane and the chatter on your website? :AH-HA_wink:
  22. O.C. Do you think the reason that the LS2 feels dead above 5K has to do with the way the power is delivered? What I mean is if an engine is rev happy and has a higher redline then it will feel more powerful than it really is, like an S2000? BTW I have not driven or ridden in a performance V8 car made after 1991 so I have no personal experience in the Gen II, III, or IV performance engine game. I have driven numerous GM Truck V8s recently but no car apps. Just wanted to make that clear.
  23. Would this have been true on the W-body as well? My MC Z34 has the floor shifter but when I press the button to move it I hear a click in the column area, same thing on my mother's Grand Prix. I figured it was just a cable running into the same area as if it had had the column shifter.
