  1. I got an idea for a really out there engine design: instead of valves there would be a rotating cylinder with a wedge shape cut into it that would rotate around the center of the bore to the outside. As the opening came to the intake side air would move in then the opening would turn and close against the sidewall of the cylinder then it would open as an exhaust opening as it rotated further with combustion occuring when the cylinder was closed off. There would be sealing problems with this design, just like a rotary, but because it wouldn't be limited because of valve springs it could have high rotational numbers without failure. Also I have thought of ways to get increased opening area and other stuff but nothing will come of it because I am not an engineer, nor would I have any idea how to do it. But the idea came to me in a flash and seems plausible in theory.
  2. Why? Cheaper, less complex, higher torque capacity, and still having a true clutch? What is the problem Sly?
  3. Guys the 3.9 ain't going in. Notice what will be using the HF V6s in the future: all Thetas, Epsilons, TE crossovers, Holden's VE cars, Sigmas, and definately the Buick Zetas. Given that the Buick Zetas, Sigmas, and Holden's VEs will share may parts of each other do you really think GM is going to certify a hole different V6 for the Chevy & possibly Pontiac versions only? My guess is Non DI 3.6 Base DI 3.6 Midlevel 6.0 base V8 6.2/6.3 Corvette based V8 top motor 6 speed autos standard with 6 speed sticks as no cost options (maybe even the auto based sticks). Trim levels will be SS midlevel (base V8) and Z/28 top model in limited numbers and high price tags.
  4. Is the 3.0 truck diesel the Izusu one they use overseas in the DMax now?
  5. Olds tried to get Pontiac and Buick to bite on the 3.5 S* and a 3.7 sport tuned derivitive back around 98 and 99. Pontiac wanted to stick to the L67 and 3800 because they were cheaper, Chevy let the 3.4 LQ1 die because they wanted the cheaper 3800 also. Olds didn't want the entire burden of the 4.0 and 3.5 but they got it. Likely this one thing that may have changed the public's perception about GM being behind in the engine game, the DOHC smooth as silk 3.5 S* was down on power to the L67 but made up for it with smoothness. If a 3.7 with 250 hp had been made then the L67 would have been a terrible choice, but Pontiac cheapened out.The O.C. could likely chime in here with personal observations, as he was likely still with GM around the time this decision was made.
  6. Sigma (Global Lux RWD)VE/Zeta I (Global RWD) Zeta II (GMNA version of Global RWD) Camaro derivitive of Zeta II (maybe others off of this?) Does that sound about right?
  7. This is probably the top thing outside of GM that I am looking forward to the most. I think the Avenger could look great and do really, really well in the market place. Its distinctive styling could prove to be its biggest asset, as the Fusion's design is its biggest attraction.
  8. We have heard for how many years that Toyota is going to overtake GM? With GM doing really well in China, GME doing better and better thanks to Daewoo, I don't expect that to change anytime soon.
  9. Would the plant possibly be used for exporting, say to AUS, since the dollar is dropping like a rock and the AUS dollar is rising (as are many other currencies against the dollar)?
  10. $$$$.Sigma I is still a costly platform from a parts perspective. If any GM brand could use Sigma I and justify the cost it is Buick and that was never under consideration. The Zeta cars will do just fine as they will be world class.
  11. What do you think? LWB Zeta floorpan with Sigma suspensions would not be out of the question. 2 SWB one lux and one sport, almost like different trim levels and one LWB sport. Business case done. Aspirational is NOT volume and Pontiac is a volume division. It is #3 behind GMC and #2 in car sales.
  12. Statesman is LWB VE or WM chassis so it will be larger than Lucerne.Think more like this: Lacrosse goes to EP 1.5 along with the next G6 and possibly the next GP. GTO is WM coupe. VE, SWB, Pontiac sedan. Statesman for Buick on WM. Also Torrent dies after this gen.
  13. 2008 that means 1 freakin' year! Holy crap they aren't going to have jack worth of infrastructure!
  14. Nope the rear suspension is very Sigma like, even has its own cradle.
  15. But is it pink? Maybe my color settings are messed up?
  16. I know that Ford AUS' BA architecture was not engineered for LHD because it didn't do nearly the export work that Holden has done with its V-car but WHY not at lease spend a little extra cash and then bring the architecture to a plant in the US? That seemed like a HUGE bonehead move! BTW I would have a tough decision deciding between a 6.3 Gen IV V8 Zeta sedan or coupe vs a 6.2 Hurricane powered BA Falcon despite my being a GM guy.
  17. The LS was on Dew98 which the Mustang's DC2 was supposed be a cheaper version of, if memory serves, but with all the changes that were made Ford'd DC2 is effectively totally different than Dew98. That is a crying shame because Dew98 could have created a whole group of RWD Lincoln and Mercury RWD sedans, coupes, and wagons but Jag didn't want any part of that and wanted to keep it in the PAG only.
  18. evok and those who might know, is there a very large amount of commonality between the holden VE platform and Sigma? The most recent spy photos of a silver SWB ve share a huge resemblence with the most recent spy photo an amature got of the 08 CTS. Just curious how related they will be under the skin.
  19. So has there been talk of something new going to Willmington or would it make sense to assume that it is a part of the 07 contract talks to close the plant?
  20. Are we 100% solid on this or has there still been some flip flop between Willmington and Oshawa? The reason I ask is that Willmington could start re-tooling tomorrow because the L-series line is just collecting dust whereas Oshawa is actually producing cars at both its unibody plants for the next couple of years.

    Buick's identity

But Buick is part of the B,P, GMC marketing division. So by that measure Buick is simply the luxury car part while the division gets a full lineup. A midsize Buick sedan, a fullsize Buick sedan, a Buick softroad Crossover, 2 GMC BOF SUVs (midsize and fullsize) and 1 GMC Crossover, 2 Pickups from GMC (midsize and fullsize), a compact Pontiac coupe and sedan, a midsize Pontiac coupe and sedan, and a large/midsize Pontiac coupe and sedan. Seems pretty full to me.
  22. Don't foget the 95 refresh of the Chevy W-bodies before the 98 refresh of the Buick, Pontiac, and Olds versions. And the 00 Chevy refresh was based on the 98 refresh. Then the 04 GP refresh followed by the 05 Lacross followed by the 04 Impala/MC.The W-body has had more lives than any other chassis out there, save maybe the Ford Fox chassis.
  23. Seems pretty freakin' sweet if you ask me.
  24. Lutz has publically stated that the RWD/NA programs are not officially approved but are being worked on.
