  1. Quite simply the money. Caddy's Alpha would sell at a higher price point and would add to the volume that will cover the cost, meaning the development costs less per car. And add that it would sell higher and it is a win-win situation. If this is your plan for Alpha I am glad you don't have Taylor's job. The plan for Alpha right now is: compact RWD car chassis with Ecotec only powertrains. Does that sound like Corvette? Camaro? G6? No.If you try to make 1 chassis that can do everything you end up with a Jack of all trades, Master of none. Part of the reason that the y-body program is SO sucessful is that it is, until the XLR, the only thing on the chassis. It was a dedicated purpose built program, just like Kappa. The higher price point made the business case, Corvette provides all of Corvette development dollars on its own. Think of it this way 350Z vs Corvette. Both are 2 seat only coupes/convertibles. One is smaller and has a V6 yet it weighs more! The reason the 350Z weighs more is that it is on a 'flexible' chassis. FM has so many prerequisites on other programs that the low volume 350Z's needs got pushed down. I would rather have a purpose built 2+2 lightweight unibody sedan/coupe only than a 'universal' platform like FM
  2. So does that mean you like it or don't like it?
  3. I don't know about anyone else but I preffer the one from a few generations ago.
  4. There were some V8 01-02 F-bods that got the LS6 block instead of the lower strenght LS1 block. Also the later, I think 01+ got the LS6 intake manifold.
  5. So you don't think the LS2 should be a Gen IV? It has a different block with capabilities for more technology! What else more do you want?
  6. Hold on to that a minute there. GM does produce a higher output V8 in trucks (GMC Sierra Denali) and SUVs at the moment, the 6.2L VVT Gen IV AND it comes with a 6 speed auto. The Tundra just has more availability of its performance V8, the 5.7, than GM does the 6.2 in pickups. But in terms of pure numbers I am willing to bet that GM will sell more 6.2 equipped vehicles than Toyota will sell 5.7's this year. And likely the next as well.If GM can be faulted for anything let it be that they don't make the 6.2 an option in more cab configurations on its pickups. They have shown they have the goods. Just wanted to get that straight. BTW I wanna see how the 4.7 Tundra performs compared to the competition's mid model/volume engines.
  7. They are doing that. That ain't Zeta.
  8. 100% Epsilon. The upper window lines are the same as the G6 coupe. Here are some pics for refference.
  9. See the problem there is that Lambda was designed from the start to be crossovers and maybe minivans. It was never designed for a car. That means a lot of re-engineering would have to be done on the structure just to make it the right height and have a more car-like belt line, including lowering the firewall. Not to mention that all the suspension would have to be modified extensively to sit lower, the floorplan may have to be modified to make it more car like. So the modifications would be quite extensive, meaning expensive. And when doing that you end up with an expensive, low volume chassis that would compete against the already world class high volume GMNA Zeta 2.0 cars. If Buick goes all FWD/AWD it will never be taken seriously as a luxury competitor. It may have worked for Acura up until now but even now they are changing to add a RWD chassis to their lineup.
  10. I showed flaws in your argument where you neglected models which could out compete Honda models. I would say since your on a Pro GM site and arguing against GM that you should provide the legwork to prove me wrong instead of visa versa. I threw that in as more of an explanation point. Because wheather you want to admit it or not it is true in MANY instances. Explain it to me then. I didn't take a stats class in college but I can assure you that I am intelligent enough to understand the flaws in my argument if they are pointed out. Bring it. Read up on CR before you sing their praises. So rather than telling about your experiences by answering questions you just didn't fill it out. Way to let your voice be heard. You do know that JD is a stapel of the industry. A company that does tons of research and is a consultant to many within the industry right? A company that rates not just the product but the dealership experience and the factories, just like AutoPacific does. Consumer Reports is a Magazine! They might send out some surveys but they are in business to sell magazines. Do you not recall the Suzuki Samouri lawsuit in which CR actually repeated the test several times until they managed to lift the inside tires off the ground? In the settlement CR actually admitted to overstatement of the ease of rolling. The same mag that was recently criticized for their reporting of child safety seats, because they understated the speeds as which the speeds were conducted. So you tell me who is more trustworthy. Think about that the next time you are reading the Magazine.
  11. According to Edmunds the 3.5 Impala gets 31 on the highway while the 3.5 Aura gets 29 mpg and the 3.5 Malibu gets 32 hwy. The 3.0 V6 Accord gets 29 as well. The 4 cylinder Accord gets 34 and the 4 cylinder Malibu gets 32. You could use more than 1 source you know. No it isn't. The Cobalt uses a SC 2.0 Ecotec. The Solstice uses a 2.0 DI Ecotec. The Solstice head and block are newer, based on the 2.4 Ecotec. The Cobalt also weighs in about 300 lbs more than the Solstice, even as a vert. I don't think you should be doubting the General's ability to get performance and gas mileage together, remember the 505 hp 7.0L LS7 powered Z06 doesn't have to pay the gas guzzler tax! Not only that but the 400 hp 6.0 V8 LS2 powered Corvette 6 speed gets better highway mileage than the S2000 to boot! I will ignore it as it was not the right car to pic. Chevy has the Impala, selling around 250k per year, limited sales this year as GM's budget large sedan. The Lacrosse which is both quieter and likely more smooth on the highway than the Accord, but much less sporty. The Grand Prix GXP will outperform the Accord no problem, sure the interior isn't quite as nice but hey it is cheap and fast. Pick your piority and GM has a car to fit your needs. The Accord is a middle ground runner whereas GM has differently tuned versions which can all outdo the Accord in certain categories. Lets also not throw things like the SAAB 9-3 into the mix because it will certainly beat the Accord but at a higher price point.
  12. It would look nothing like the Caprice, Grange or any of the WM line. It would have its own unique sheet metal and likely SLA front suspension instead of the double pivot McPhearson, which is what the VE/WM cars have now.
  13. Well it is a good thing that the G8 was added to Lutz's quote. Notice the parenthesis around Pontiac G8 in the quote. That means it was added and not specifically mentioned. I bet this said sport sedan or something similar and the author added the Pontiac G8. I speculate that Lutz may have been reffering to an Alpha sedan. I think so as well. Afterall BMW uses 1 chassis for everything from the 3 series to the X5 and the 7 series. Chi is vapor ware. It never existed outside of speculation. DTS or whatever it is called will be on Zeta.
  14. Yeah I realized that about an hour after I made the post. But I really didn't want to come on here and admit it.
  15. This would be the Global DCX 3.5 correct? Will it be DOHC or SOHC?
  16. Anyone know where I could download the song GM is playing in the background of the President's day commercials?
  17. Yeah but you can tell that the photochop was supposed to be a Trans Am.BTW when did you change your display name.
  18. Obviously with the Firebird on the hood it is a Trans Am. But that looks to be Vette based. And with a much larger front overhang. Either way I don't like it very much.
  19. Want to try the Impala 3.5 V6 in the economy debate? Check out the Solstice GXP. It gets better mileage and performance than the regular model. The CTS-V uses the 6.0 LS2 not the 5.7 LS6. And why do you even bother to have the Monte Carlo on there? It is a large 2 door coupe vs 2 sedans??? The Pilot and RDX are much more similar to the Theta SUVs. The SRX is a 3 row RWD car based sports wagon. The H3 is an offroad climber and is geared for that. The TB uses a 291 hp I6 vs the Pilot which has what 260 hp. Also the TB would destroy either Honda product in towing since it is BOF with a SRA. Maybe the Lambda SUVs would be a better comparison. The Ridgeline is on par with the the Silverado Crew Cab moreso than the Av. The Av is available with the midgate which the ridgeline has nothing comparable. Also do you really think the Ridgeline will survive offroad comparably to the Av Colorado or Silverado? And your point? One sacrifice MPG for performance and the other visa versa. What would the Torrent GXP look like in this comparison? Your right GM doesn't make a 2 seat only Economy car. BTW how is the Insight selling? In your opinion. No many GM models as per my changes. Also the GM models will compete at a lower price point, which to me and many others is very important. And CR polls their readers and recieves abot 5% of their surveys back. And of that the public decides what is a problem and what isn't. A squeak in the eyes of the surveys is just as big of a problem as a broken trans mount.
  20. You mean the numbers that are calculated based on EPA figures and the numbers of each models sold, right? So since the #1 Honda car is the Accord and I thing #2 is Civic that would drive their numbers more in the car direction. While GM builds WAY more trucks and SUVs than Honda builds, because that is what is selling in big numbers now. So looking at the company's CAFE numbers doesn't really work. It IS true the that Honda's corp. avg. is lower than GMs but many GM models will out do competeing Honda models. Remeber the numbers are skewed by the amount of each model that are sold. So wait a minute for YEARS import guys fell over themselves to offer JD Power numbers. And now, actually it began years ago, that GM is doing VERY well in JD Power surveys their numbers are unreliable. You do know that JD Powers has VERY accurate numbers on quality right? Much more so than say Comsumer Reports, whose methods are not statstically reliable. Also if we don't use JD Power's numbers, an international automotive forcasting and rating service, whose do we use?
  21. Pretty wild C5 rebody. One of the nicest I've seen.

  23. Simple, understated, attractive. Not to bad.
