Interactive Review: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS RS Manual
roadwarrior replied to Justin Bimmer's topic in Reviews
To ask a stupid question, have you tried putting your seat forward far enough to fold the seats down all the way then moving your seat back again? I had to do that in my old firebird because I had to lay back so far...can't tell from your picture if there's enough room for that to work. -
REPORT: Hummer's fate to be decided by Tuesday
roadwarrior replied to Intrepidation's topic in Heritage Marques
Well, the name plate can go, but if we can get the HX concept redesigned as a chevy or gmc, that would be great...only vehicle worth saving in the line. That assumes, of course, that the HX wouldn't go to a potential buyer wholesale. -
I think we have a winner here. 4 brands (at most): Chevy, Pontiac (if they'll give the $$ to make it an RWD niche), Buick, Caddy. As far as volume goes, Chevy should get its own dealers in most areas, with the other 3 brands sharing a dealer. MAYBE shift Pontiac over to the Chevy dealership, but the little bit of extra volume would help the smaller Buick-Caddy dealers more than the Chevy. Ideally, though, I think a one-stop GM superstore would be awesome.

RS is a package that can be had on the SS and LT models: RS Appearance Package available on LT and SS, with HID headlamps with integrated halo ring feature, spoiler, specific taillamps and 20-inch wheels2

1: 0 2: 0; not fond of Buick's styling cues.
-
1: 0 2: maybe a CTS. Just too many good choices from GM right now to be able to narrow it down.
-
1: 0 (unless you want to count a 1-year-old Malibu we just bought) 2: lots of possibles here. I'd love a Camaro, if we could afford another car. A Volt could be a possibility, or a new malibu, a new impala (FWD or RWD)...
-
1) none 2) I'd possibly bite on a Sierra HD, if I had the need and the money.
-
1. 0 2. HX is the only worthwhile option out of Hummer in either production or concept form. Restyle it a bit into a GMC and close the division.
-
1. Nope 2. not a chance.
-
1. nada 2. the sky, but they ought to fold the tent and make the astra a small buick and the Sky should be a wildcat or something
-
1. Bought an '02 Aztek, since traded in for an '07 Malibu. (My used '87 firebird doesn't count, but it was my first car) 2. I'd consider a G8 sedan, but in all honesty, sad as I'd be to see Pontiac go, maybe it should. Aside from the G8 line, there's really nothing unique to Pontiac; they could fold the G8 into Chevy as a low-production model as it is now, call it the Impala, the ST becomes El Camino, the wagon becomes Nomad.

Hydrogen from what source? Water? Same problems as ethanol there, not to mention huge amounts of energy having to go into the process. Clean, yes. Lots of issues as far as viability go.

Lutz: No to small cars and diesel, yes to E-85
roadwarrior replied to Camino LS6's topic in General Motors
Yeah, like 25% worse mileage. Forget that garbage. Another dirty little secret about E-85 is we're all paying a whole lot more for it than gas whether we use it or not...in the forms of the subsidies the government pays to the farmers to grow all the extra corn, and in the increased cost of food that comes from more arable land being used for corn for ethanol. It's a giant swindle that needs to go away entirely. Bio-diesel on the other hand...for cripes sake, you can essentially filter some used oil from micky-D's or any other fast food joint and burn that (I know, a little more work than that, but not much). Not only is it clean and cheap, it's RECYCLING a waste product that would just wind up being thrown away anyway. And you can do it all in your garage. -
That we do, reg...that we do. No major complaints on mine (fully-loaded late '02). Still, I'll be ready to trade up when I have the money, just not sure if it'll be a Camaro, Sierra, H4, Volt... If I lived in snow country or in the mountains, this would definitely by on my short-list when it comes time to buy, as long as they keep it close to the concept.

GM US Production Schedule/Timetable through 2013
roadwarrior replied to AH-HA's topic in General Motors
*C3XX full-sized truck and heavy-duty commercial cab beginning in 2012 Hmm, will Chevy/GMC have something to compete with the capabilities of the F450 in 2012? Is the "commercial cab" only up to class 3, or beyond into the class 4-5 range? -

If they really ARE making money (even on a vehicle-above-cost basis), then it just goes to show how badly Toyota is fleecing anyone who buys one of their cars. $9K discounts and still profitable? I wish I had those kinds of economies working in my favor!
-
Yes. That or the face from the '02 should've been the face they based the GTO off of...far more aggressive, far more Pontiac-ish than the bland front on the actual model.
-
Interesting that the Sierra gets a refresh in 2010, even though it's a good-looking truck right now (maybe they're going to do something to differentiate it a little more from Ford?)...and yet, they're waiting until 2012 to do anything to the Yukon, which is a truly wimpy, dopey-looking vehicle. They really ought to drop the canyon and just let chevy have the little truck.

That's not an official picture, a render by NOS2006 (sorry for stealing your thunder, NOS). If I remember correctly, it was a photochop based off of a jeep concept car.

Two-Mode Hybrid system is $10,000+
roadwarrior replied to Flybrian's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Ouch. Pricy. I wonder exactly how much of that GM can absorb? -
Well, if they stuck to the cars that are featured in the movie, they'd have one real opportunity to do so, with the solstice. GM doesn't do the Topkick pickup in-house; that's Monroe's baby. The Camaro isn't out, and the H2 would just be green paint.
-
The inevitable has happened. But, one question...does it come complete with the autobot badge stamped into the tailgate? :AH-HA_wink: Honestly, though, as much as I love how badass they look, the Topkick/Kodiak pickups aren't all that useful. The beds are still only good for 5500 lbs (only 500 lbs more than a Silvy 3500 crew cab), the engines are comparatively underpowered (330/620 hp/tq vs 365/650 for the silvy), and the transmission is only good for a 26000 lb gcwr (16000 lb tow rating). If they could boost the gcwr to where you could tow 25000+, then it'd be something...
